Bless Box "Heatwave" August 2019 Review

Before we get into the review, a quick note: this August box arrived the first or second week into September. According to Bless Box's shipping FAQ, "Bless Box ships once per month, usually around the 20th - 25th." As an FYI, it seems like the delivery cadence differs here compared to some other subscriptions.

The full magazine that used to come with this box is now 100% online, but we did receive an info sheet detailing the products included.

Curology The Moisturizer, 0.8 fl oz

I am not really sure how to value this moisturizer- you can only purchase it in a set with a monthly Curology subscription. This box also came with a code for a free month minus the $4.95 shipping fee, but it looks like that is an offer available to anyone who goes to their website. For more information on Curology, I would read Megan's breakdown here. In terms of this moisturizer, I thought it was lightweight and a good morning moisturizer for my dry skin.

Bless Custom Bucket Hat - Listed Value $15

Bless Box is no stranger to sending custom hats, but this bucket hat is a first. Even more surprising is the fact that I don’t hate how I look wearing it? I didn’t expect that. This is unbranded and is just a shade of light pink all around, and it provides solid coverage from the sun. I’m not sure where I would wear this, but I would wear it if the need arose.

Zint Nutrition Cacao Powder, 8 oz - Retail Value $8.69

This is non-alkalized cacao powder. I’m not quite sure what that means, but this is a superfood with antioxidants and resveratrol. I never bake, so I’m passing this along to a friend who enjoys making chocolate recipes.

Invisibobble Multiband - Retail Value $9

I am a hardcore invisibobble fan, so I was stoked to see this new release from them in the box. It has a typical headband front, and the back is connected by the signature invisibobble loops. It stays secure in my hair without getting tangled, and I would like three more, please.

Eve Hansen Antioxidant Sheet Masks, 5 ct - Retail Value $20.98

I was excited to see we got a full box of sheet masks from Eve Hansen, but that excitement was dampened when I saw they expired within a month of this box being delivered. I’m not quite sure how old these are that they are officially expired now that I type this review, but I will say my skin enjoyed these and is looking visibly brighter after each use.

concealer

Amazing Cosmetics Concealer in Medium Beige, 0.07 oz - Estimated Value $9.80 (Buy the 0.2 oz version for $28)

I’m not really sure why something as specific as concealer was included in this box- the shade medium beige definitely will not work for everyone. I can’t say much about this beyond that it looked very pigmented, so if this shade is a match for you this small tube should still last for a while.

concealer 2

Here it is swatched.

Niu Body Sugar Lip Polish in Piña Colada, 5 g - Estimated Value $3.33 (Buy the 15 g jar for $10)

This is so tasty! I dig the piña colada flavors, and this also does a great job of exfoliating my lips before I apply a liquid lipstick. It left my lips soft without being too abrasive, and it was easy to wipe/lick off so I didn’t have sugar granules all over my face.

Cliff Whole Lotta Salted Dark Chocolate Bar - Retail Value $2.99

I don't usually reach for Cliff bars- I find their ratio of calories to protein to be lacking for me, but when I looked at this as a sweet snack rather than a protein bar, I enjoyed the blend of chocolate, sea salt, cinnamon, and date paste. I probably wouldn't purchase these, but this bar wasn't bad.

Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser, 3.5 oz - Retail Value $4.99

For reasons that escape me, Bless Box likes to include products from previous boxes in each box and label it a "duo." This was the first item in my "Summer Heatwave Duo," and I don't like it. This is made with both mineral oil and beeswax, and after using it I always feel like there has been a film left on my face that is a bit of a challenge for my next cleanser to remove.

Callyssee Perk Up Your Eyes Caffeine Mask, 2 pairs - Estimated Value $8.17 (Buy 12 pairs for $49)

I love eye masks, but these didn't cut it for me. I actually left these in the fridge overnight before using, and yet when I applied them they were only cooling for a few minutes. The cooling sensation is one of my favorite parts of using an eye mask, so that was a bummer. I would also like to point out that Bless Box listed the value of my heatwave duo as $20, but my two items total a little over $13.

The Verdict: This was another good box from BlessEverything I received is both useful and of good quality, and including brands like invisibobble and Eve Hansen added to the overall experience for me. I calculated a total value of $82.95 for everything except the Curology cleanser, which does feel a bit low.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but subscribe by the 17th to receive that month's box. From Bless Box:

I got a whole box of those clif bars at my university’s welcome back festivities lol they are not great, and too hard and seedy/nutty for me but I eat them when I’m late for class

Oohhhh. I haven’t seen the invisibobble headband before!!! I need to look into those because I use an invisibobble pretty much everyday!! One of the greatest items I discovered several years ago because of this site!!🙌❤

I have also REALLY tried liking this box..I was really disappointed with the September box recieved last week. I already hate paying shipping and I just don’t feel like the value was there this month.. I guess it’s time to cancel again.

I have tried over and over to like BB’s contents but couldn’t. Both the cacao powder and face masks were about to expire. I wonder of Sazan Hendrix actually picks out the products or even writes the info..

I let them know about the expiration issue and was informed that I could get 35% off a next box or replacement with an equal value, I chose the replacement options. The products I received were of equal value. And I don’t know how many times we have received the concealer.

By the way Jessica, raw cacao can be mixed with yogurt, in a smoothie or whatever you can think of as it has health benefits. I also appreciate how you were able to review the box in a positive light, even as I believe it was poorly curated and expiration dates were ‘overlooked’ by BB.

I did not receive the August box, but did get the September box yesterday and will not be continuing the subscription. I’m curious to hear your opinion on the September box.
