Birchbox October 2019 "Ingredient Conscious Beauty" Curated Box #3 Review

There are two info cards in this month's Birchbox. One details the included six items and has "Trick or Treat" tips on how and when to use certain skincare products. The other card talks about how to get $5 off and a free box for yourself when you buy a gift subscription for the beauty-lover in your life.

NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Shine Oil Mist, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.00 (Buy a full-size 4 oz for $ 16)

I was a little worried about this oil mist being heavy, but I was very pleasantly surprised that the mister was super fine and the oil felt like a dry oil on my hair, giving it a shine boost without making it look greasy. I would avoid your roots though, with most any hair oil! It has a light scent that is creamy and a little floral (described as an almond + violet scent) that isn't very strong and complimented most of the perfumes I wear well.

Lake & Skye 11 11 Eau de Parfum, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.82 (Buy a full-size 0.33 fl oz for $48.00)

This was the item I was most excited about trying, even though the vial is TINY. This is a really nice scent that would work for anyone really, and I would easily classify it as unisex. Because it is an oil, it has a natural richness and lasts a long time! It isn't a complicated scent, and that is just fine. You will notice mostly amber notes and a touch of salt. I loved it alone but also found it layered well with others (specifically my beloved Commodity Whisky!).

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, 7 ml - Estimated Value $13.53 (Buy a full-size 15 ml for $29.00)

This is a pretty straightforward eye cream with a delightful earthy scent! Lots of great ingredients for delicate skin in here, most notably hyaluronic acid, cucumber extract, rosehip oil, and carrot seed oil. It immediately gave that dull skin an instant moisture boost and lasted all day. Stash this in your fridge if you want a chilled cream treatment!

Saint Jane Luxury CBD Beauty Serum, 3 ml - Estimated Value $12.50 (Buy a full-size 30 ml for $125.00)

I was pretty hyped to try this serum. Look at the packaging! It contains CBD oil which is great for red and inflamed skin, which I suffer from pretty much all the freaking time! It also has 20 other botanicals such as rose, sea buckthorn, calendula, and sandalwood. It feels really luxurious on my face, though I will caution this is a heavier oil serum, so if you arent into that, maybe mix a few drops with your moisturizer. I immediately had a dewy glow and my skin felt very soft and significantly less angry. I plan on saving the rest of this for use after my next serious peel appointment!

Air Repair Complexion-Boosting Moisturizer, 7 ml - Estimated Value $2.73 (Buy a full-size 59 ml for $23.00)

This was one of the first brands I tried when I subbed to Birchbox years ago and I still like it! The formula has an awesome fresh air scent and is incredibly moisturizing without being greasy or leaving a film. It is one of the most affordable high-quality day creams out there and I feel like it often gets overlooked because the packaging is nothing exciting compared to so many others out there. You really can't miss with this combo of green tea and hyaluronic acid, so budget skincare addicts rejoice!

Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint in Sweet Potato, 3 ml - Estimated Value $3.00 (Buy a full-size 8 ml for $7.99)

Finally, our last treat this month is a tinted lip balm. Dr. Lipp is well known for that famous nipple balm (that can also be used on lips) and this is a similar formula but with added pigment for a natural lip tint. The big ingredient here is lanolin, meaning it is a no-go for my vegan friends out there and that it also has a distinct lanolin scent and taste. I don't personally mind it, especially since it is one of the only things that saves my poor winter lips in the cold months!

Just a barely-there, pink boost.

Verdict: This curated Birchbox has an estimated value of around $41.58. This is a marked improvement over my boxes from September! I really loved this entire selection, but especially that perfume oil and CBD oil serum. Your girl likes oils! I always have use for eye cream and lip tints, and I was happy to get a new little tube of an old favorite moisturizer. I also feel the need to mention that super cute Halloween-inspired box this month! How freaking cute was that?

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

After more than a year without Birchbox, I resubscribed in September. I was fairly pleased with the September items, but this box is the best I have ever received from them. I am excited about all of the items, whereas there was a time I would only enjoy one item (or sometimes two).

Considering I can’t purchase a travel size of that CBD oil, the $15 box price is completely worth it.

This box was tempting, but I’m skeptical about topical CBD, & I avoid Dr Lipp products due to lanolin. I picked a different box.

I really like that NatureLab hair oil. I first got it in Ipsy & I’ve been hoarding it ever since. If you have very fine hair like me, I suggest ignoring the directions to spray it on your dry hair, & to use it on towel-dried hair. I use it after leave-in conditioner type products (I got great results using it with my samples of R+Co Waterfall & Pure Brazilian Leave-in) to help seal in the moisture.

The more I use the hair oil, the more I like it. And that is saying a lot because I am almost exclusively an OUAI convert these days!

I got this box and th eone item I am keeping is the CBD oil. lol It’s so nice and smooth and smells a little bit like Vintners Daughter or the Lindstrom oil to me. lol

This was my last box finally, I was paying like $5 from last years black friday deal so it wasn’t as bad for me. I would never ever pay $15 or even $10 for this box. I received at least SIX different eyeko liners over the last year from them and at least a dozen hair items. The one time there was a full size item it was missing from my box. lol Just no luck with this sub.

I definitely recommend the Macy’s beauty box. It’s $15/mo, the same as Birchbox and the overall value seems to be higher than Birchboxes. They have great department store brands featured in the boxes like Clinique, Lamcome, Chanel, Mugler, Too Faced, Tarte, Urban decay, Perricome MD, and more! They even have a full sized product every few months or so. Plus they have a $5 off or a $10 off coupon to use at Macy’s included every month! So you can get a couple face masks or travel sized items or lip balms for free with the coupon 😉

I got this box also and love it! I used the eye cream the night I got the box and I have never seen such dramatic results with my dark circles. I am using it twice a day now and am very happy to find a great affordable eye cream!

I also got this box and it is my favorite after a long time of boxes. The Saint Jane oil is hands down the best oil I have ever used. It completely eliminated the red from ingrown hair, acne, and dry skin inflammation and after 3 days I can’t see my crows feet around my eyes. I am astonished by the results and will be buying the full size! Some reviews online mentioned users being able to go foundation free after using it.

I love that oil too. I am so prone to redness it is crazy, and CBD oil products absolutely help my skin too. Glad you enjoyed!

I would not pay $15 a month for it. I am an ACE, so I pay $10. That’s the only reason I continue to get it, honestly. If I lose my ACE status after next year, I will be saying goodbye to Birchbox!

Sorry, it’s so not worth it.
