Bespoke Post "Terra" Review

Bespoke Post comes with a nice info card with a photo on the front and all the info you need about the items on the back. I chose the very outdoorsy "Terra" box this month because "The Ultimate Tool" looks super cool. I've been slowly inching my way into becoming one with nature more and hope to do more camping, so this looked like a great tool to have on hand when in the wilderness (or simply in a backyard garden).

Barebones Ultimate Tool with Sheath - Estimated Value $50.00 (similar found here for $40.00)

The hero item of the box is "The Ultimate Tool" which has many uses and is modeled after the traditional Japanese Hori Hori knife used for digging and gardening. While I couldn't find the exact same version online, the one I received is made with an eco-friendly bamboo handle and heat-treated steel. 13.25 inches in overall length, the blade itself is 7.25 inches long and almost 2 inches across at its widest point. This sucker is not messing around and has quite a nice weight and somewhat menacing size. I can tell that it's really well-made and built to last. The last time I went camping, this would've come in handy while pitching our tents, breaking up kindling for a fire, and hanging a clothesline for our wet swimsuits.

As for the features, it has one edge with a straight blade, and the other is serrated for sawing into branches for kindling or cutting back shrubbery in your yard. There is a notch below the straight-edged blade that can be used to cut twine or open bottles. Flip it over to reveal a curved design for digging as well as depth markings for planting. The end of the handle has a steel base perfect for hammering tent stakes into the ground or whatever else may need a strong whack.

Also included is a handsome sheath made of (what looks like) durable nylon with reinforced piping and rivets and leather accents. There's a snap to hold the handle of the tool in place while the back has a clip to easily slide onto a belt to keep it handy on your person. I already feel like more of a badass by owning this tool now.

Base Light Grooming Detox Scrub Bar - Retail Value $8.00

There seems to be an activated charcoal version of everything grooming-wise these days. Soap, toothpaste, facial masks... This detox bar contains just that as well as gold moss (which I find intriguing), several oils (like olive, coconut, and hemp), as well as coffee grounds for some scrubby action. I find its scent really pleasant and somewhat neutral although it leans to a more "fresh" scent. While lathering up, this bar creates a grey lather, but it rinses completely clean leaving only a clean scent behind. I found this soap to be quite moisturizing as well (thanks, shea butter), so my skin felt soft instead of squeaky. I didn't get too much of the coffee grounds when in use, but I may have to work my way into it more.

American Bird Products Audubon Bird Call (with extra rosin) - Retail Value $8.00

Here's an item that my Dad would just LOVE. He's a big bird-watching fan and we often go to the Audubon Society's Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve when he is visiting me here in Pittsburgh. Silly me, when I first took this out, I thought it was more of a "whistle" and hesitantly blew through the hole in the metal piece with zero results. I then read the info card to reveal that all I had to do was simply twist "cast zinc plug" against the red birch piece to produce a chirping noise that attracts our feathered friends. While I haven't been successful in recreating a scene from Snow White, I think this is a really cool device and may have better luck when I'm deeper in nature than the suburbs. The call also came with a small red capsule that has more rosin in it to use if the sound fades. It creates a fresh contact for the two pieces to rub together with.

Verdict: I really liked the Terra box from Bespoke Post and I'm excited to have such a multi-use tool for my yard and camping alike. I may gift the bird call to my Dad but the charcoal soap will be great for me to use in the shower. While the $66 value isn't a wild amount over the $45 cost of the box, these are items I would probably never discover on my own and are well crafted and stylish.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this box is still available to choose!

Value Breakdown: This $45.00 box has a value of an estimated $66.00. Here's what you're paying for each item:

  • Ultimate Tool: $34.09
  • Soap: $5.45
  • Bird Call: $5.45

@Marne- Great shout out to Beechwood Farms!! I’m no longer in Pgh, but I loved that place. Next time you and your dad are there, say hello to (or better yet, go for one of the daily walks) with Chris, the director of education there. He’s a great bird spotter!

It’s a solid box. Love the knife and it would be great for my garden/woods adventures. Though I think it’s pretty irresponsible that they put the rosin in a container that could so easily be mistaken for a medication! Nevertheless the value is there (you get 50% more than you paid for). I just resubbed recently so I could buy the Bookniture, and I’m sure I’ll order this next!

I will have to find Chris next time! Thanks for the tip, Beth!
As for add-ons, I’ll look into if that’s something we wanna try to review too!

@ Marne (again) 😊 I wonder if at some point MSA wants to review (or at least comment on) some of the add ons for these boxes. Looked at the Terra box and the field hatchet ($28) followed by the “bloody knuckles repair balm” ($12) made me laugh!
