October 2019 BeautyFIX Review

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 8 (!!!) different items this month, so strap in!

Mio Skincare Skin Tight Body Serum, 1 fl oz. -  Estimated Value $16.47 (Buy 3.4 fl oz for $56.00)

This is a new brand for me, which is always exciting! This is a thick, peach-colored gel that is designed to smooth and strengthen the elasticity of tired, aging, or sagging skin. It does advise that you will need to use it over 30 days to really notice peak results, but luckily this is a pretty generous sample size. It has a clinical scent and absorbs easily. I didn't notice anything super dramatic after 3 or so days, but my overall skin texture does look smoother in the way it always seems to when it is well hydrated. I will continue to try this out on my upper arms until it runs out.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.50 (Buy a full-size 8 fl oz for $36.00)

I recently cut off most of my super thick hair, which has totally changed my outlook on hair masks since I don't have to use as much now that my hair is more reasonable. I really like to use them instead of a normal conditioner in the shower and leave it on while I shave my legs. I only apply this sort of heavy mask to my ends and it lasts for quite a long time! This formula was super smoothing and gave my strands such a healthy sheen.

Bosica Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask, 2.8 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $34.00

Although this mask still has some clay, it has significantly less clay than so many others out there, making it a little more suitable to my dry skin. I still don't use masks like this very often and tend to use them in specific zones on my face as needed. That should certainly make this full-size tube last a long while! Will, on the other hand, loves masks, especially those with charcoal. He was so pleased when I brought this home to him and has been using it on his nose for 2 nights in a row now.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum, 0.33 fl oz - Estimated Value $26.07 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $79.00)

I freaking love this French brand and I am already obsessed with this serum from another sample some time ago. I already use the Caudalie Grapewater Mist every single morning and this serum is such a perfect complement. This formula is full of Viniferine (which is found in grapevine sap) which really makes my skin shine. Though this is a light serum, it is also really moisturizing thanks to squalane and chamomile. Super thrilled with this larger sample!

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, 1 oz travel size - Retail Value $10.00

This was another familiar item, but I love it so I don't mind at all. Dry shampoo is a must for me since I tend to skip actual shampoo every few days. I go through A LOT of dry shampoo! This is among the most gentle I have tried while still being very effective at sapping up oil and adding volume. It also smells great!

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, 1 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $29.00

I absolutely loved this eye cream. And for that price? Awesome! It is filled with coffee and green tea extracts which totally wake up tired, dry skin. My undereye is immediately brighter when I use this in the morning before my primer and makeup. It also gives me all-day hydration due to the rosehip seed oil and vitamin E! There is a coffee scent here, which I normally hate in products, but when tempered down with the other botanicals in this formula, it is actually soft and quite nice! If you are on the hunt for a reasonably priced and very effective eye cream, this is a winner.

TULA Purifying Cleanser, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.18 (Buy a full-size 6.7 fl oz for $28.00)

I find this blue tube really charming. It is just so cute! There is also good stuff inside, namely a very effective cleanser with great ingredients. I found this to easily cut through my day's makeup (I generally double cleanse but I used it alone to be fair!) and left my skin clear but not dry. The probiotics inside are meant to enhance your skin's natural biome, and while I don't know too much about that, I can tell you my skin felt great and was totally prepped for the rest of my nightly routine.

Fur Oil, 3 ml - Estimated Value $1.84 (Buy a full-size 75 ml for $46.00)

Lastly, we received a small little vial of Fur oil. This is meant to use used in more delicate areas to moisturize hair and skin, while preventing ingrown hairs. I had heard of this rather specialized oil before and was really excited to see what the hype was about. I am super prone to irritation and ingrown hairs EVERYWHERE I shave, so I used this little vial up on my legs and also the area it was specifically designed for. It actually left all of my skin feeling so soft and calm! There was a definite reduction in irritation, though I guess I will have to wait to see what becomes of any potential ingrown hairs. Is this oil worth $46? I am not totally sure. I am leaning towards most gentle skin oils might be as effective, but I will have to do more experimentation.

Verdict: This $24.95 BeautyFIX box has an estimated value of $126.06, which is awesome for a $25 box. The samples this month were so large, and it also included 2 full-size products! Yeah! The brand selection was high quality, and I was so ticked to see favorites Caudalie, Boscia, and Klorane. Aside from the Fur oil, dry shampoo, and hair mask, this felt like a luxury skincare box, which suits me just fine and I have come to expect that from this sub. Two thumbs up!

That MIO is amazing! I tried it for a week on my post baby stretched belly skin, and there are dramatic results. I say, try it!

I too eco the poster that asked when we get to see the new do.

This is what a a beauty box should be. I freaking loved this months box! I sub for skincare and they always deliver!

I can use or donate every item!

My daughter loves the mask, just on her nose for blackhead control. She tried others and it hurt to pull it off. This is just right! And a full sized 34$ dollar product?

Don’t think, just hit the link above and subscribe because you can trust every Beautyfix box to be this good.

I am a long term subscriber and while every product is not going to be a winner for me overall they provide super consistent value, new stuff to try, reputable brands, no filler and often times very, very expensive brands.

More importantly do you know how many times I have felt ripped off, gotten the bad variant, had bad customer service? Never. Not a single time.
And if you are like me, 51 and wanting good skincare without the palettes that look like they were made for An influencer, this and Test Tube are great subs for skin care.

Not bragging but at 51 I have the skin of a 39 year old, and that is thanks to sub boxes! A year sub to Beautyfix is way cheaper than a single facial at a plastic surgeon:)

This month they hit the skincare out of the park! Not as glam as Ipsy but not as problematic either. Just high quality reliable value minus the glitter!

Thank you for your comments. As an ipsy subscriber in her mud 50s I’m always finding to many products for “youngsters” that want Color not substance. I’ve been researching, wish I had done this prior, “boxes” and needed to see reviews from women 8n my age group. Thank you again.

You can peep that fresh-cut in my October LiveGlam KissMe review. I legit saw how long it was in my Spiritu review pictures and had a haircut scheduled the next morning!

Thank you for this insight! I am in my 40’s and looking for more skincare focused subs.

Try test tube as well then. Always full of skin care. The next one isn’t super fancy but all practical, usable and skin care heavy. MSA has done a spoiler and there is a link there. Between Beautyfix and Test Tube I have had tons of skincare items and most were fantastic. It doesn’t really matter what you use as long as you are consistent. Everyone has vitamin C everyone has retinoids. Some are better than others but as long as you are using reputable brands these two boxes offer you a chance to try your skin will look amazing!

For me the caffeine eye cream smells like caramel corn which was super annoying during the day! I don’t like food scents at all. Maybe I’ll just try this at night when I don’t have to smell it working. 😛

Loved the review, and loved my October Beautyfix, as always! I believe it’s the best subscription.

Thanks for the review Megan. I also have thick hair (and long) which is starting to go gray but I just can’t bring myself to cut it short. Because of that, dry shampoo is my hair’s best friend. Will you be growing it back? I really hope so as you look lovely with all those long thick locks.

Megan K.

Hey Claire! I have tons of white hair too! It started when I was like 13. I wish it would just go all white already, while it is still trendy. Seeing how long it was in the Spiritu review images was the catalyst for cutting it. Nothing like your picture all over the internet to spur something like that!

You know, Megan, you have got me thinking, I’m tired of having to wash my hair separately from showering, it’s too much of a job. I use the kitchen sink, and what a process, using different hair products like hair masks and leave in conditioner, it leaves me exhausted. Plus I keep putting off washing it so I’m sorely tempted to cut it maybe to shoulder length. I have split ends and frizzy short hairs sticking out of my scalp so it isn’t very flattering. We certainly pay for having long hair, such a hassle, others just don’t know the agony we go through!!

Ella

Ok is it just me or did that Tula probiotic cleanser smell like old lady perfume in the worst way possible? The scent was so strong and cloying. It was pretty much migraine inducing.

I gave it a try and I could taste how perfumey it was. Yuck is the word I’d use.

I don’t feel it did anything special. Just a run of the mill cleanser trying to lure people in with a gimmick – probiotics. You’re better off adding probiotics to your diet.

That Caudalie serum on the other hand – rowr. Unexpectedly good. And here I am using giant globs of it since I’m trying to pare down my stash. My skin appears to be more luminous after a week of continuous use day and night.

Lastly, please no more dry shampoo. Ffs Beautyfix and every other sub box in the last 2 months has included a dry shampoo.

Here’s a thought – send Olaplex instead.

The klhorane is a clean beauty brand. Amika stinks so bad! I’m happy try try a clean beauty brand dry shampoo.

I love oleplex. I bought a kit containing #1 and #2 online. I use the number #1 when I mix my hair color (it only takes a teaspoon) and I add the number one into my organic shampoo and conditioner to create my own bonding product.

I use #2 once a week as a sleep mask. Equal parts oleplex and hair masque. Rinse out in the morning and style as usual.

I don’t bother with the #3 because they 2 is 15% and the 3 is 12%. The 3 is a marketing gimmick made for salons to upsell you an “at home product.” Virtually no difference between the 2 and 3 in practical use.

At 51 I have long hair that looks good and I save $$$ by coloring at home.

I think they don’t do beauty boxes as a brand because they charge a lot to keep it exclusively through salons and people would hate it and leave scathing reviews because they think it is a conditioner and it isn’t. Without adding a conditioner or masque your hair will be healthier but feel like straw. I think the bad reviews from people not understanding the product would not be good for them as a brand.

I am going to try this, thanks so much for all the detailed info! I’m 52 with very long hair that was in great condition until I started shedding it due to severe anemia. I want to keep what remains and I am finally needing to start covering gray, so I am going to try your routine from the outset. Do you have any advice on color brands, though I know that covers a lot of ground, so just curious what YOU use and why (I know, we may have different hair) as you seem so well informed, thanks.

bunnygirlbrem

I love the smell of Amika. It’s my favorite dry shampoo. And I love boxes sending little bottles of dry shampoo…perfect to keep in my my locker for when I’m done with a surgery. Keep sending them! 🙂

I want to see your new haircut, Megan! 🙂

Stephanie

Hi Debbie,

Did you buy #1 & 2 on Amazon or a different site? I’ve seen it on amazon but am reluctant to buy it because there’s a lot of fakes out there. Hoping you found it on a different site, thanks

Dani G.

When do we get to see the new ‘do? I’m excited to see it! My hair is the complete opposite of thick but it’s very long. It’s definitely not an attractive combination so I’m about to give it the chop as well. For being so thin and easily breakable, it grows astonishingly fast but only in length. I keep cutting it shoulder length but it’s not enough because in 4-6 months it’s over 3/4 of the way down my back. Strangely enough, no matter what I use on it or how carefully I treat it, the front/sides continue to break before they achieve much length at all. So I’m trying to find a cut/style significantly shorter all over (without going high-maintenance short) so my hair doesn’t look like a bunch of sad little strings haphazardly hanging all down my back. 😄

Oh and of course, great review as always. But I wanna see that hair! 😉

Megan K.

Haha hi Dani! My first MSA pictures of my hair were in my LiveGlam KissMe October review. I legit sat the photos of how long my hair was in the Spiritu review and had to cut it. It looked like a hair cape!

Tanya M.

You may also one to try Anacatelos products which are good for any type of hair. It is a UK brand (serum and scalp conditioner) that I received in one of my UK boxes and I’m telling you it is amazing. Sounds like Debbie’s option might be a winner as well. Good luck. Something similar happened to me when I took a certain brand hair vitamins, it grew absurdly long 2 inches a month but it was thin and while my hair strands are thin, my hair amount is a whole lot. it didn’t break but it was growing non stop but only half the hairs so it looked thick at the bottom and thin at the tips where the extra length grew fast.

Tanya,

Thanks for the recommendation! I looked it up and am excited to see it helps extend the anagen phase which may help my shedding due to anemia. I was impressed by their reliance on science backed ingredients. Going to order the set as soon as I have some money, thanks again!

Debbie

I’m going to look up that serum! Wish it would come in one of my boxes! Good tip right back at you!

Debbie

Try oleplex for that breakage. It’s a bonder. But the #1 and mix into your regular shampoo and conditioner. Buy the #2 and mix half and half with a deep conditioner and leave on overnight. Rinse and style In the morning.

Bonders repair the hair and prevent breakage. There are a lot of bonding shampoos coming to market. Just make your own using Oleplex which is available online from many places.
