Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Close Box

Vegancuts Beauty Box
4.3 overall rating
40 Ratings | 8 Reviews

The Vegancuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegancuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

This review is of the $22.95 a month Vegancuts Beauty Box.

Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Bag Top

Vegancuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag, which looks like more of an environmentally-friendly material than the old bags. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Vegancuts Beauty Box August 2019 Review

The Vegancuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of haircare, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

The box came with this information card. I am liking the new design of the information cards with animal pictures on the front. In honor of this month’s tortoise, I thought I would show you a pet of mine that you’ve probably never seen before:

But I guess he knew the camera was on because he tucked his head into his shell and wouldn’t show his face. Maybe another time. (He is a Russian tortoise and he is probably something like 25-30 years old. I’ve had him for 15. He is not going to get any bigger.)

Zion Health Deep Cleansing Scalp and Hair Scrub Vanilla Coconut with Mangosteen Powder (4 oz) – Retail Value $19.99

I wasn’t really sure after reading the package and the information card what this product was supposed to do. So I read the ingredients list and there were some surfactants (basically lathering compounds) and the jar mentioned deep cleansing so I thought I would use it in place of shampoo. I tried it after a hard workout but also on a weekend night where I wouldn’t have to go to work the next day, just to be safe. It did lather but it took some effort to really work into my hair. It rinsed out well and my hair seems clean today. I’m not sure I would use this every day because it has some clay in it to absorb excess oil and my hair is actually quite dry most of the time, but I will definitely use it from time to time to break up my shampoo routine. It smells good. I can’t say specifically what it did for my hair because my hair is nice right now since I just got it dyed at a salon a day or two ago and it’s always nice for a few days after that.

Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Niu Body Pina Colada Sugar Lip Polish Close TopVegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Niu Body Pina Colada Sugar Lip Polish Open Top

Niu Body Pina Colada Sugar Lip Polish (10g) – Estimated Value $6.67 (Buy 15g for $10)

This is about 2/3 of full size and honestly, it’s enough for me for a lip scrub, because I tend to go through them very slowly and not finish them off. This smells fantastic, very summery and sweet. I have more use for this type of product in winter when I get dry skin but I tested it out by removing the last traces of a lip stain (another use I have for lip scrubs) and it did the job pretty well.

Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Raeka Turmeric Cucumber Mask Top

Raeka Turmeric Cucumber Mask (15mL) – Estimated Value $5.90 (Buy 75 mL for $29.50)

This smells a lot like cucumber and not really anything like turmeric. It is thick and sticky (as you would expect for a peel-off mask) and mostly clear. I sort of wish it had more color to it because with peel-off masks, it is sometimes hard to see if you’ve gotten it all off. It did peel off, mostly, although it was taking a long time and I got frustrated so I ended up rinsing it off the edges of my face. Cucumber is soothing and turmeric fights inflammation and this also has some aloe so I think it would be best used after a day of sun exposure. (Note: my peeling problems may have been because of the time I used it. I set a timer but it didn’t go off so I’m not entirely sure how long I had this on. A thick layer will take longer to dry but may also be easier to peel off.)

Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Dermala Patch Me If You Can Targeted Pimple Patches Top

Dermala Patch Me If You Can Targeted Pimple Patches (36 count) – Retail Value $9.99

I am just not a fan of this type of product. They don’t do anything for me (possibly because I am 41 and don’t break out very much anymore?). They are made of hydrocolloid only, with no type of medication. Hydrocolloid bandages work by absorbing wound exudate, but they have to be applied over an open wound in order to work. So if you have a blemish with an open pore or a whitehead these might absorb something, but if you have anything deeper under the skin or already partly healed, they aren’t going to do anything.

Vegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Derma E Scar Gel Close TopVegan Cuts Beauty August 2019 - Derma E Scar Gel Open Top

Derma E Scar Gel (0.5 oz) – Estimated Value $5 (Buy 2 oz for $19.99)

The only scars I have right now are a really old one on my arm where I had to get 11 stitches in my arm at the ER, and my hysterectomy scar which is also obviously quite large. This is not really a product meant for those types of scars (or else you have to apply it multiple times a day for months). I am hanging on to this for when I get cat scratches that are lingering for longer than usual in order to prevent those from scarring. I do generally like Derma E, there’s just no way to test this in a timely manner for writing reviews.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $47.55 for this month’s Vegancuts Beauty Box. I liked the scalp scrub quite a lot, and that is most of the box value right there. The lip scrub was also nice, and I am going to see about using the scar gel on smaller scars. I will probably use up the mask, though I’m not a huge fan of peel-off masks because they take a lot more time than other types of masks (but I can see the ingredients being beneficial). The only miss for me was the acne patches. Although I was familiar with some of the brands, all the items were new for me, and I was definitely happy to receive a hair product that I could actually use (Vegancuts hair products don’t usually work for my hair type, but I am thinking that, so far, this one does).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Order by the end of the month to get that month’s box. This was for August, so it is too late to receive this one (August combined snack/beauty boxes shipped a bit later than usual).

ACTIVE DEAL: $40 off. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Scalp scrub $9.65
  • Lip scrub $3.22
  • Mask $2.85
  • Patches $4.82
  • Scar gel $2.41

Aww love your turtle! Could he be my favorite of your Menagerie? Wish we could see his little face. Maybe in another posting sometime? I wonder who his best buddy is. Thanks for showing us!

Hey Reagan,

I have had the scar gel before and use it on fresh wounds as opposed to scars. It seems to cool them a little, but I haven’t noticed any miracles.

I have had the mask before, and it’s the only peel off mask I really like. If you apply it a little thicker but just sit back and forget about it, it does come off easier. Make sure you do not get any in your eyebrows – ouch! I feel like this one actually does brighten my face and isn’t just a gimmicky mask.

I can’t sit back and forget about masks, unfortunately. Because I have like 20/200 vision without contacts or glasses, so I am pretty much nonfunctional until I am done with the mask. (I don’t wear contacts with masks because I never know if the scent is going to irritate my eyes.) I can hold a book a few inches from my face, but that’s about all I’m good for.

I have the Derma E scar gel and sadly it does nothing for any scratches I get. I scar easily and still scar just the same using this product. Hopefully it’ll work well for you! Love the turtle pics, btw!

Hey Reagan! The Anika Jelly shampoo from NewBeuaty said to apply once a week. I feel like it’s probably a similar enough to the scalp scrub that the directions would be similar. Too aggressive for every day use.
