September 2019 Target Beauty Box Review

This month’s box is all about finding that fall glow after summer.

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Moving on to Target’s fall beauty picks!

Schick Intuition Sensitive Care Razor - Estimated Value $3.95 (Buy handle with 2 refills for $7.89)

This is my go-to razor to travel with. It has 4 blades, getting you that close, soft shave, and the moisturizing solid surrounding the razor acts as a shaving cream, so you don't have to pack any additional products. I also love the rubberized handle which makes the experience even more user-friendly and comfortable. Aloe and vitamin E work to condition even the most sensitive skin in this version, which happens to be my favorite.

Trim Salon Board in Pink, 2 files - Retail Value $1.19

Emery boards are always useful items to have on hand, yet not the most exciting products to receive in a beauty box. These are your standard double-sided files that are good for both filing and buffing your nails for a smoother nail polish or treatment application.

Miss Spa Hydrate Facial Sheet Mask, 0.88 oz - Retail Value $2.39

This fragrance-free face mask is a dream for anyone with sensitive skin. I love that it is paraben, phthalate and sulfate-free as well as dye-free, too! I kept this moisturizing mask on for about 20 minutes, and it stayed securely on my face without slipping around too much. Aloe is the true hero of this product, and it made my face feel incredibly moisturized and soft. Love it!

Dove Dry Serum Antiperspirant, .028 oz - Estimated Value $0.18 (Buy 1.7 oz for $10.99)

I usually don't bother using samples like this--so small! And I hate applying deodorant with anything but a deodorant stick, but here we are! I applied this serum directly to my 'pits then rubbed it in with my fingers. It dried almost instantly and kept me smelling fresh and feeling dry all day long.

TRESemme Botanique Color Vibrance and Shine Shampoo, 0.27 oz - Estimated Value $.06 (Buy 22 fl oz for $4.99)

TRESemme Botanique Color Vibrance and Shine Conditioner, 0.27 oz - Estimated Value $.06 (Buy 22 fl oz for $4.99)

TRESemme is always a great option when you're on a budget, but sample packets are frustrating for me to receive in subscriptions (especially this month's very low-value box and the other foil packet!). I generally liked this duo, but I definitely prefer a more hydrating shampoo and conditioner. They left my hair looking shiny, not weighed down and generally manageable. This duo is perfect for color-treated hair as it is paraben and sulfate-free, and it also smells great.

Verdict: Target Beauty Box was very underwhelming this month. The foil packets and nail files made this box disappointing for me, except I do really love the razor and face mask finds, which I could have bought for under the box cost after all. The value of this box is $7.83, a little over the $7 box cost (which includes free shipping).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available for purchase.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $7 and has an estimated value of $7.83; here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Schick Intuition Razor: $3.53
  • Trim Salon Board in Pink: $1.06
  • TRESemme Botanique Color Vibrance and Shine Shampoo: $.05
  • TRESemme Botanique Color Vibrance and Shine Conditioner: $.05
  • Miss Spa Hydrate Facial Sheet Mask: $2.14
  • Dove Dry Serum Powder Touch: $.16

What do you think of the September Target Beauty Box?

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

This box is laughable. Time for Target to give it up or make it a gift with purchase.

This was on a par with the latest Walmart box. I expected it from Walmart. But not from Target. Pathetic.

Theresa

Nope, my enthusiasm for this box is non existent, they need to step up their game on the beauty boxes

Target should be embarrassed…

Just discontinue it already…

Totally agree. Or make it a gift with purchase only.

If anyone lives in Arkansas or if you are ever traveling here then I highly recommend stopping at one of the state parks guest shops. They all have these awesome nail files that are made of natural Arkansas stone and they absolutely work the best. Also I had my first one for over 10 years and the only wear it showed was it got broke in half somehow. The pink is best for regular use but they have others for buffing, stains, extra coarse, etc.

I bought a few 2 years ago at Crater of Diamonds State Park and agree – they are awesome!!! Wish I had a few more.

This is one sad box.
The good thing is it’s not a Subscription. They show you in advance what you are buying. It is a purchase and shipping is free. So we can’t really complain to much.

It’s so strange that they chose to include a foil packet sample of the deodorant, especially since they have included full deodorant sticks in the past. If they included the full stick version of this product, I’m sure a lot of people would have been thrilled, it would have made this box more desirable, and a lot of people probably would have tried the deodorant and liked it enough to repurchase when their stick was empty. A foil packet like this will likely be tossed by a lot of people and isn’t a large enough sample to really give a good impression of how the deodorant will wear over time for the people who actually decide to give it a go. Deodorant is something you need to use day after day in all kinds of situations to really know if it works for you. This is almost as annoying to me as the times they include a shampoo or conditioner but not both. What a waste.

Agree. It would make up for all of the foil packs. I have gotten a full size and went back to purchase it from Target specifically because they sent me a full size to start with. Customer loyalty and all. I didn’t buy September for the simple fact that it didn’t have enough bang for me make the purchase.

MrsLittle

I actually used the sample and liked it enough from the one use to buy the full size!

Pam

The razor is the best. Its worth $5 just for that. I ordered 2

Nat

I would totally buy this for $5. So for now, I wait

Nanci

It will eventually be free with purchase.

I also got that foil deodorant packet from Walgreens online (they sometimes give you a bag of samples with a beauty purchase). What a horrible way to test deodorant- by smearing it on with your hand! Could they not have spared an extra 20 cents to get it in a trial stick format?

I think Walgreens is doing that gwp bag now with a $25 online purchase 🙂 It actually looks pretty decent!

I was just coming here to say this. They couldn’t have sprung for a better application method.
I would never apply a deodorant like that

This is the worst Target box ever. How on earth does any of this stuff follow the theme, either? Target needs to bring back their awesome boxes

I used to look forward to the Target Box every month… I’m glad that this is a purchase as you go box and not a subscription. Thanks for making my budget cuts easier Target! You’re not the only one…
