Stitch Fix Kids September 2019 Review

In our Fix, we received this cute sticker sheet.

This is the invoice that was sent. It provides specifics on the brand, size, and price of each item. They also give instructions at the bottom for how to check out and either purchase or return your items in the pre-paid postmarked envelope they provide. The items for my daughter came to a total of $242, but with the 25% discount (which they take off BEFORE they deduct the $20) and the $20 credit, our total drops down to $161.50. That's a savings of $80.50 on this Fix!

This is the included style sheet, which features pictures of all the clothing and a note from her stylist, Isabel. This month I requested some pieces in mustard yellow since we have some family photos coming up. Unfortunately, her stylist mentioned that they didn't have many mustard yellow items to offer.

Callista Button-Front Maxi Dress by Mia Chica, Size S - Cost to Keep $26.00

This dress, while not mustard, is yellow and it is so beautiful! Liv and I both loved it so much, but it was way, way too long on her. This was a size S and I don't think that sizing down would have been an option especially since this was pretty slim-fitting. It's such a shame because this would have been a keeper for sure! It features buttons all the way down and a nice ruffle at the hem. Since it was so long, she loved walking around holding the edges out like she was a princess in a gown.

Caterina Cold Shoulder Top by Love Glam Girl, Size S - Cost to Keep $22.00

This top was so cute, but I think it is a bit too sophisticated in style for a 5-year-old. I would love one in my size though! I love the burnt orange and the cute tie at the waist. Fit-wise, this one was great and I think the quality was nice as well.

Quinlynn Braided Open Bootie by Report Footwear, Size 13 - Cost to Keep $60.00

These shoes are so cute! I really love the style and think they are nice quality shoes. The color is great, I like the low heel, and I really love that braided detail - although it was a little difficult to figure out what to do sock-wise since so much of them showed through. They are a bit outside our budget for shoes though, and unfortunately, while they fit pretty nicely everywhere else, I had trouble getting one of the zippers closed around her ankle.

Here are the booties on her. You can see, it was just that one that I couldn't get closed. She found them to be pretty uncomfortable on her so I'm not sure if these run a bit small since these are in her size.

Tanika Ruffle Dress by Stella & Sienna, Size S - Cost to Keep $26.00

This dress is so pretty and very fall-like! It would be so cute with a cardigan and some boots - a perfect Thanksgiving dress! It is a bit big on her and hangs a little bit in the front. I love the cinched waist and ruffle sleeves. This is another one that I want in my size! Or at least something with this fabric!

Mali 2-Pack Knit Legging by Flapdoodles, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $18.00

This two-pack of leggings is a fun choice! The solid pink can be paired with a lot of her tops while the blue unicorn leggings are cute and very unique. They are a little bit big on her, but not so much that they are falling down on her and they aren't super baggy like others we've tried.

Dani Lace Up Detail Graphic Tee by Love Glam Girl, Size S - Cost to Keep $18.00

This top is fun and in Liv's favorite color. I love that it is casual, but still has some interesting details like the lace-up sides and the metallic silver with gold sparkles. It was also very soft and while it is a little big on her, I think it's another one that she can make work.

Daphnie Fleece Lined Seamless Legging by Capelli New York, Size S/M - Cost to Keep $12.00

These fleece-lined leggings are cute and seem like they will be super warm. The knees feature some fun sequin hearts that offer two different color patterns. The first is a brighter rainbow mix, while the second is more subtle and silver with bits of shimmering color throughout. My daughter loved that she could reverse them anytime she wanted! They fit her well and you can see them pictured on her with our next item.

Irie Side Tie Varsity Tee by Third Wish Clothing, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $18.00

This shirt is super bright and a nice hot pink color that Liv loved. It's cute, but I don't think she was into the sporty style. I liked the sequins and the cute little tie at the side. The fit was decent on this one, maybe a little big, but it wasn't too noticeable since the sleeves aren't full length. She has it paired here with her sequin leggings from above.

Whit Cold Shoulder Tie Front Top by Crown of Hearts, Size S - Cost to Keep $16.00

This top is simple enough, black and white stripes with a cute tie at the front. She actually has a very similar shirt but without the cold-shoulder look, which is preferred. Neither of us are crazy about the cold-shoulder look and I am pretty sure I always note this in my comments when we send them back, but for some reason, we always end up with at least one each month. I think they must just have a lot of them in their inventory!

Nyla Graphic Hoodie by Third Wish Clothing, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $26.00

This last item is so cute! I love the darker gray and all of the fun sequin details. It looks very simple on the front with the gold sequin heart and gold sequin stripes, but then the back has that giant surprise unicorn and rainbow. It's basic enough with just the right touch of flair for a little girl to love! It fit her perfectly, but this is one piece of clothing that I would prefer a little bit more room in since she will most likely be layering it. You can see it almost looks too small when she puts the hood on for some reason.

The Verdict:  This month's items from Stitch Fix Kids were a decent mix of casual play clothes and nicer dress clothes. I was surprised that her stylist wasn't able to find many items that were mustard yellow to send us, but maybe that's not really a popular color for children's clothing? This month our sizing issues were much better, although our favorite piece (the yellow dress) was the only one that we couldn't make work. I do wish they would stop sending us cold-shoulder tops and I think I will make a specific note to her stylist this time instead of just relying on my feedback to tailor our experience. Overall, we are pretty happy with the fun mix of cute clothes that we received and the $20 styling fee is worth the convenience of getting to try it all on at home!

Value Breakdown: This Fix cost $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $242.00. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $161.50. That’s a discount of around 33% for these items!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Why didn’t you keep her favorite dress and just tailor it?? Would have been super easy to hem

Hmm, I didn’t really think of that! But the dress flares out a little and has a ruffle trim and it’s definitely beyond my capabilities! Lol
