Skylar Wanderlust September 2019 perfume subscription box review

Skylar Scent Club
4.2 overall rating
5 Ratings | 1 Reviews

Skylar Scent Club is a monthly perfume subscription that includes one limited-edition clean, hypoallergenic, and cruelty-free scent.

The founder, Cat, became especially conscious of product ingredients while working for The Honest Company and quickly realized she couldn't find a truly clean perfume she enjoyed. She also realized tons of other perfume lovers were looking for the same thing, so Skylar was born!

This is my third month of this subscription and I am again blown away by the gorgeous and thoughtful packaging. Each month the rollerball comes in a little scent "book" complete with a bookmark you can store inside with space to jot down your thoughts about each fragrance.

It's worth noting that Skylar scents are hypoallergenic, phthalate-free, paraben-free, and cruelty-free. They are also made in the US (in Los Angeles, to be exact!) and have no synthetic dyes. Let's check out this month's scent!

Scent Notes: Papyrus, Virginia Cedar, Violet Leaves

I knew I would love this perfume as soon as I saw the booklet was covered in trees. As a general rule of thumb, a lovely little tree placed on anything scented has never, ever lead me wrong! I adore woodsy fragrances because they are so deep and moody, but still very nature-oriented. They are also usually quite sexy too!

This is one of my favorite scents ever. It is like they went into my brain and thought "What would Megan like to smell like?" and came up with this perfume. One of my other favorite perfume notes is violets because they are so floral but have a delicate powder element. In this case, they blend beautifully with the grounded cedar notes into something feminine but incredibly self-assured and sophisticated. The dry papyrus notes make this scent just a little off-kilter, and there is something here that reminds me of the incredibly popular Commodity Book perfume, which was one of my faves (RIP, darling) or even somewhat of cult-favorite Santal 33, but less serious and significantly lighter.

metal rollerball tip

Skylar perfumes usually feel lighter than so many others due to the natural and clean ingredients used to make them. The only thing I was a little disappointed in with this scent was that it has a pretty weak staying power and moderate sillage on my skin. This could be totally different for you, as skin chemistry plays a huge role in these factors. I still adore the scent enough to justify reapplication every so often, and the easy travel-friendly rollerball makes this a breeze.

Verdict: Skylar is easily one of my favorite subscriptions right now. The whole experience of unboxing such gorgeous packaging and exploring a new scent each month is irresistible to a perfume junkie like myself. The September scent was exceptional. It had some of my very favorite notes and is a perfect "between" season sort of scent. I highly recommend it and really hope that Skylar just makes this a regular perfume so I can buy a full-size bottle. More like this! Can't wait to see and smell next month.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Ok, you all might want to check your accounts! I was signed into my account this morning for the first time since I signed up for September’s scent. (Which by the way, I really do love). I managed to look at my upcoming boxes screen, and included with October’s scent in my upcoming October box was a body bundle they were charging me an extra 20 dollars for! I truly haven’t even signed into my account since I signed up, so there is no way I added the body bundle. I sent Skylar an email inquiring into what had gone on, but wanted to let you all know.

I joined this month specifically for this scent and I am in love. The scent definitely lasts on me and my coworker walked by an hour ago and smelled it, and she signed up too lol. Great perfume, I can’t wait for October!

I think this month’s scent is beautiful on its own. I also love pairing it with some other perfumes in my collection to give them a woodier base and make them more fall appropriate. I love how it smells with Tocca Florence ❤️

I am a Florence addict!! This is such a great suggestion. Thank you!

I subscribed to this box last month and everything went well. One night, over the last month, I went to their website and looked at some of their body products. Then last week, Skylar charged $140 to my bank account. They charged me for two body lotion/body wash sets and 3 of this month’s scent. When I inquired about the charged, they told me I “accidentally ordered” all of those products. How the hell does one “accidentally order” $140 worth of stuff when all I have ever done was go look at some of their products. They also told me they can’t refund my money until I return all of the items because of course, they didn’t respond to my email until after they shipped the box out. It’s really friggin messed up. Seriously!

Is it easy to skip a month? I’m really interested in this but I don’t necessarily want to commit to a new perfume every month.

Anastasiya

Yes, very easy.

I’m in the same boat as Alisha. Was trying to hold out, but after your review of this scent and the fact that it’s only $10, I couldn’t resist!

I had heard another really great review of this month’s scent, so for 10 dollars, I had to try it out! You pushed me over the edge, Megan! 😁

Yay! I am excited to see what you think. Will you update me?

Oh…my…word…, I love this scent! I’ve been putting it on everday, even if I’m not doing anything. I regularly catch myself wondering what is that amazing smell? Yah, it’s this perfume! 😁

Carrie

September will be my second month and I have grown to so love August’s scent after not being sure if it was a little too sweet for me. So excited to see your positive review of September—it sounds amazing! I keep thinking I should set a limit on how long to subscribe, because how much perfume can you really use, but…I just don’t see that happening. A new monthly scent is simply too fun. 😆

It is a lot of perfume, but I collect and I like to record scent notes in a perfume journal! This is one of those irresistible subs for me. Even if I hate a scent, it is a good gift, right?

You had me at “it reminds me of Commodity Book perfume.” I have been eyeing this subscription, and I couldn’t pass up this month after your review (especially for $10). I definitely do not need another sub, but I don’t have anything like this. All my boxes are makeup and skincare. I love that they offer safer fragrances. We’ll see what the next few months bring.
