Scentbird September 2019 Review

This month, I received Scentbird’s “Scent of the Month.” You can either opt for the scent of the month or you can fill a queue with fragrances of your choosing:

There was what is basically an advertising flyer for this month’s scent, “Illuminare” by Vince Camuto.

Illuminare by Vince Camuto – Estimated Value $7.84 (Buy 100 mL for $98)

if you’ve been following my Scentbird and other fragrance reviews for awhile, you’ll know that I’m not really into florals, and this is REALLY floral, so it’s not the best fit for me.

This has base notes of tonka bean, suede, musk, and cedar, and normally that sounds like something I would like, but on me, this is just overwhelmingly dominated by the top and mid notes. (Of course everyone’s body chemistry is different.)

Mid notes are magnolia, osmanthus, and rose, but I’m having a bit of trouble picking out any individual notes from the mix. Top notes are plum blossom, pomelo, and bergamot, and I do get some of the citrus hints here.

Anyway, I find the longevity about average, maybe slightly lower than average (maybe it just seems lower than average because the base notes are weak on me). I think the way to make this work for me is to layer it with something that has a stronger base, perhaps something darker like Black Orchid by Tom Ford, which I just bought a full-sized bottle of (not the bottle that costs $180, haha).

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $7.84, which is only about half the monthly cost of the subscription. Of course, you can choose fragrances (or other items) based purely on retail value and come out ahead with Scentbird, since it is so customizable. This wasn’t the greatest month for me, but I did really love last month’s scent, and you aren’t always going to love a scent of the month selected by someone else. Scentbird does actually have pretty good tools for selecting fragrances you will like, if you choose to go that route.

Please note: Some MSA readers have been having trouble getting their Scentbird shipments on time lately so be sure to read the comments on some of the past reviews to get a sense of what the issues are when making the decision to sign up.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance for your queue.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $20 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

This single handily has to be the worst review(s) for this website which I truly love and look to for guidance. I get it what comes in the box is a scent/perfume but did you just give up and let them just send you whatev…. ??? Or did you fill out a profile??? They offer candles and skincare how does that work? Can I get any skincare for any price or is their a preselected list or are there options for x you get y and for z you get w.??? Does the scent come in an ugly container or slip into a designer sleeve…??? If used how long will it last???

I mean seriously describing a scent is like trying to describe the flavor differences between box wine and crazy good expensive wine… sure they both had caramel, grapey, vanilla, cherry whatev… but One is worth the extra Benjamin and one is not.

Since describing a scent never works… just look at any perfume ad… Seriously… none have a scent description. Please don’t just phone it in and describe the random whatev they sent you but, instead focus on the product what the choices are how it works etc… and instead of some scent description a simple I was pleased or the value was good, great or fantastic at the end would be more telling

I do like this subscription and signed up for two items each month for $25. It is very easy to skip a month and I usually get at least one skin care product and occasionally a premium fragrance.

They did start charging an additional $5 to $10 on some premium skincare products (all full size) as well as premium fragrances.
