Nosejoy August 2019 "Lovely Lavender" Review

Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub's curator, Emily McBride, and an info slip that gives Emily's description of each item in your box. This month, Emily acknowledges in her note that she is an unabashed lavender-lover, and as she suggested, I have indeed noticed lavender-scented items pop up often throughout the year's various themes, but this is the first time I've received a full-on lavender-themed Nosejoy box. I love the phrase "breathe in the joy" that she ends her message with. That's exactly what it's like to open this subscription each month!

Natural Inspirations Lavender Ylang Foot Balm, 2 oz — Retail Value $15

Our feet are the unsung heroes of our bodies, aren't they? And yet, I give mine so little lovin'. This mildly scented foot balm includes all sorts of natural ingredients meant to heal your heels. This month's Nosejoy box arrived the day I was leaving for a weekend trip, so I tossed this balm in my toiletry bag not knowing if I'd have the chance to try it while away. Turns out I needed it and was so glad to have it—I did a ton of walking on the first day and my rough feet felt snaggy against the sheets on my Airbnb's bed. I applied this in the morning and it felt sort of like rubbing a big Chapstick onto my feet (oddly satisfying, I must say), but it mended my minor scuffs right up and made my feet feel soft immediately. Amazing!

Permanent Baggage Leather Lavender Mountain Sachet — Listed Value $16

This little sachet is the coolest one I've ever laid my eyes on. Its leather is soft and smooth, its perforations and antiqued studs are visually pleasing, and when you hold it up to your nose, the best combination of lavender and leather rewards you. I wonder if, over time, the lavender scent will emanate more readily.

I encourage you to visit the maker's Etsy page, etsy.com/shop/permanentbaggage (great shop name, by the way). Serendipitously, I had already been eyeing up her hair clips but hadn't made the connection until I followed the link provided on the Nosejoy items list. No wonder I had such a fondness for this sachet immediately!

La Lavande Lavender Shower Gel/Foam Bath, 6.75 fl oz — Retail Value $10.95

This bath product does double duty as both a body wash and a bubble bath. Clever! The scent is undeniably lavender, but also blended with a sort of that general "freshness" you'll find in French soaps. It's hard to put my finger on how to describe that aroma, but it's very familiar and comforting.

My Manoa Lavender Laundry Detergent, 2 oz — Retail Value $2.80

I'm all about the products Nosejoy includes that bring awesome smells to my regular household chores. This laundry detergent feels so throwback in its powder form and simple packaging. And it was homemade in Hawaii, cool! The packaging says it's good for 1-2 loads of laundry, but isn't resealable, so I decided to hold off on giving it a try until I have either one large load or two small loads in a row that I need to do.

Verdict: You can't go wrong with lavender and August's Nosejoy box brought the sweetheart scent alive in forms both unique and classic. This month's four items added up to $44.75, which exceeds the box cost of $34.95. Great value as per usual, and Nosejoy always gets bonus points for supporting small businesses with every single product included.

To Wrap Up:

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.
