My Fashion Crate September 2019 Review

My Fashion Crate always includes an insert with descriptions of the items and their values. The front side of the page lists everything in the Essential box, while the back gives you the Premium box details. They include pictures, which I always appreciate.

Pastel Baby Doll Top, size L - Listed Value $45.00

When I first posted this, I wrongly styled it as a dress and a reader (thanks, Amy!) kindly pointed out to me that it is indeed a top! While I blame a good deal of my confusion on "mom-brain" (it's real!) I think I was also confused by the photo on the info card in which the model does not appear to be wearing pants. Once I got over my embarrassment, I tried it on as a top with some jeggings and it actually changed my perception of this piece. I love that it is so soft and comfortable, but those little eyelet stripes are indeed actual holes with no liner behind them, which is a bit too scandalous of a look for me to wear without a top underneath. The sleeves have elastic around the ends and it features a tie at the neck. I like the flowy boho feel of this one, although this was last minute styling, and I'll have to be on the lookout for some leggings and shoes that suit it a little better. What do you think?

Brilliant Gold Bead Earrings by Riah Fashion - Listed Value $28.00

These are just not my style at all. I do love the super shiny gold beads mixed with the clear beads, but my earring style is much more subtle than these large hoops. Although I did have some fun trying them on for photos (you can see further in the review). I'll be passing these along to a friend for sure though.

Pure Cosmetics Liquid Perfection Matte Lip Gloss in Love Bug - Retail Value $18.00 (currently on sale for $14.40)

This lip gloss formula is incredibly long-lasting! It goes on smoothly and dries down to a matte quickly. This color is a bit darker than what I am normally comfortable wearing, but I actually kind of like it for a darker fall color. It is not a very moisturizing formula, but I didn't think it dried my lips out which is what usually happens to me with matte formulas.

Also, I didn't realize it until writing this review, but it has a button at the top that turns on an LED light for application! Fun! It is pretty bright, too. Like I could definitely use it as a flashlight if I needed to.

September Breeze Sunglasses by Blue Planet Eyewear - MSRP $50.00, Listed Value $45.00

This is my third pair of sunglasses from Blue Planet Eyewear and I think they are a pretty solid brand! This particular pair is not on their site, but the tag lists an MSRP of $50 and this is comparable to what is listed on their site. I love that they are an eco-friendly company that gives back by donating a pair of corrective glasses for every pair of glasses they sell. These are made from recycled material with bamboo arms and polarized lenses. I am really not sure if I can pull this shape off, but I like them and I'll definitely use them at least for driving since they are great at blocking the sun's glare.

Here you can get a look at my new accessories and that lip gloss. What do you think? Am I pulling any of it off?

The following items are only in the Premium Box:

Vacay Mode Shirt, size L - Listed Value $30.00

This top is super comfortable, lightweight and while I don't typically wear shirts with phrases on them, I can get down with "vacay mode" especially with that cute pineapple. It's also pretty basic with the white and black, but is it not a fashion faux pas anymore to wear white after Labor Day? While this shirt looks thin and very sheer, I don't think it's too much that I would have to wear a cami under it. I'm not in love with this, but it's plain enough that I will rock it for something easy and comfortable to throw on.

Blue Checkered Cardigan, Size L - Listed Value $40.00

A third clothing item this month! And this one, I just cannot get into. I actually really like the pattern and the colors, but more for a quilt or tablecloth or something that doesn't go on your body. It also feels really wide to me and not long enough to really offset that for a kimono look. I'm no fashion expert, but this one is a miss for me.

Verdict: This month's My Fashion Crate was really not my style this time around. I am good with the basic white tee and the sunglasses, and that lip gloss was a pleasant surprise (as long as you all give me the okay that I can pull them off! ha!), but the kimono and earrings were just not for me. Now that I know the "dress" is a top, I actually really like it and I think I'll figure out a way to rock this one. I do think there was a lot of inflation in those listed values and this probably isn't my favorite box from them, but at $55.90 for this box with six items, that's $9.32 per item which doesn't sound terribly overpriced for any of the items. So as long as you are into the styles, the value might be there for you.

The total value for the Premium box using listed values comes to $206.00 this month, which is great for a $55.90 ($49.95 + $5.95 shipping) box, even with some inflation in the values. As for the Essential box, the value is $136.00, which is good for a $40.95 ($35 + $5.95 shipping) box. For the $14.95 extra paid for the Premium box, I received the white shirt and kimono (valued at $70.00).

That shirt looks much better with the leggings! However, I can see where you would be confused. The model on the card definitely looks like she’s wearing it as a dress!

Thanks, Mary! ♥️

I think you definitely can pull off those hoop earrings even though they’re not your typical style. The lip gloss and sunglasses too! Im not one for “phrase” shirts either but the vacay mode one is cute, I’d probably make an exception too. Dress/shirt – yeah given this subscription it wouldn’t have surprised me if it had been a dress either haha. “Kimono” – horrible. This box seems pretty ridiculous but I always read the reviews to see your very diplomatic but honest takes on what they’ve sent hehe 🙂

katie

I think the sunglasses, lipstick and earrings all look great on you!

Everything in this box always seems so cheap looking, like Oreo Box levels of cheap.

Nanci

The dress is clearly a top. It even states in the description that it’s a top.

The review has been updated to reflect that it’s a top! 🙂 Thanks for pointing it out Nanci!

Amy

I don’t think that first one is meant to be a dress. It’s listed as a top. Maybe try it with leggings?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Amy! The post has been updated! 🙂

Amy

Easy mistake! You never know with this box. 😉

Brandi D.

Oh my. Well that’s embarrassing. Thank goodness it’s a long top. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think i’ve gotten so used to their dresses being so short that it didn’t even occur to me…and clearly I can’t read either! Lol. There might be an updated photo tomorrow…with leggings!!!! 😬

Brandi, rethink those earrings, girl!!! They look fabulous with your long hair. The sunnies and the lipstick are great too! I love the first dress, but I can see how it would be awkward to actually wear in public. Try it with some skinny jeggings and a shoe or boot with heels. It would look really great with white skinnies/shorts but yep, it’s after Labor Day. I live in the Deep South and it was almost 100 degrees today!!! As for the white after Labor Day rule, it has been upgraded to only include dresses or any jeans, pants, skirts or bottoms pieces, purses, jewelry and shoes (basically just tops). However, “winter white” is perfectly acceptable. SO ridiculous. But if my mom saw me in white after Labor Day she would send me home to change. Unless it was a coat or a sweater. 😹😸🙀

DawnS

Wow the white after Labor Day thing has been totally thrown out on the west coast. I did not know people still did that! LOL

Bonnie

They really don’t. I’m on the East Coast and rules like that just show your age, or that you’re listening to someone from a different generation. Even though I’m from that generation, most of my peers and I have moved on from letting “rules” tell us what we can wear.

Brandi D.

Haha thanks for all the information Punkykiki! 😊 I’ll rethink the earrings and see if i can make them work!

AmyM

I wear white jeans year ’round. But I’ve always been a rule breaker. lol

Reply ButtonReply

Punkykiki

Me too. I also have a white pair of cords that are amazing. Those would be winter white however, right? 😄

Jill

Love the sunglasses and lip gloss on you! And the Vacay Mode top is cute. The rest? I agree with you–ugh! Though I never really like kimonos in any form.

I got this box and really like the vacay mode shirt. It shrunk after washing so now I cannot wear it. It became a crop top! I guess I didn’t read the instructions. Everything else was descent for this box. I am finding myself using at least a few of the items from this box every month so not bad.

Yay! Thanks, Jill! 🙂
