Luxe Catch Bargain Box Review + Coupon – September 2019

Luxe Catch
4 overall rating
9 Ratings | 9 Reviews

Luxe Catch is a monthly-themed, women’s surprise fashion box with a "mix of clothing, accessories, jewelry, handbags/small leather goods, beauty, and footwear. Some brands you might expect to see are Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, Coach, YSL, True Religion, Elie Tahari, Tory Burch, and more (basically any popular designer sold in major department stores today, can be featured in your future catch)." I often see brands like Halston Heritage, J Brand, Eberjey, and the Jetset Diaries in my boxes.

Luxe Catch offers two different levels of subscription: The Bargain Box for $50 per month (valued up to $200) and The Posh Box for $250 a month (valued at up to $1000). The Posh Box includes more items and guarantees contemporary brands or higher.

This is the review of the Luxe Catch Bargain Box for $50 a month.

Luxe Catch September 2018 - Style

When you sign up, you fill out an extensive style profile. You give them an idea of stores you like to shop at, your favorite brands, and your least favorite brands. Then you choose your style from a selection of style boards and your favorite types of clothing. Lastly, you fill out a size profile. Here you can see the style board I chose, “The Dramatic.”

Note: Luxe Catch says this about return on their FAQ page:

"Unfortunately, due to the nature of our business we do not accept returns or refunds. All items included in our boxes are carefully curated and priced with the greatest value in mind."

We reached out to their customer service for more info and they let us know the service they provide:

Our amazing QA team checks every size we receive to make sure it is true to size. If not, we will always size the customer up or down to ensure fit. If the items still do not fit, we handle this on a case to case basis. If we do have the same item in stock in other sizes, we may be able to exchange for another size, but the customer is responsible for shipping to us. In some cases, we are sometimes able to exchange for an entirely different style. But we NEVER turned a customer away and are always looking to help make sure they enjoyed their purchase.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Luxe Catch Bargain Box “Back To Business” September 2019 Review

September's theme is “Back To Work” and includes "traditional style that'll take you from work-day to night in a snap." Pre-orders for this box were August 1-31 (shipped in September). Luxe Catch always sends out spoilers and sometimes sends "choosy" emails so you can pick your type of items. They ask for your preference and you also have the option to let them know of any special requests. This is a great opportunity to work with the stylists to find something that is right for you.

You can post a picture of your catch on social media (and tag Luxe Catch) for a chance to win a free box!

Luxe Catch includes a print-out with "The Luxe Find" which gives info on the brands included and offers tips for styling the items. There is also a breakdown of the item MSRP and savings.

This month, I received a cardigan by Marie Oliver.

Oliver Drape Cardigan by Marie Oliver, M/L - MSRP $248

My Back To Business box included this black draped cardigan by women's lifestyle brand, Marie Oliver. Made of 100% silk, the material has a matte exterior finish and is satiny on the interior, making it easy to slide on over any shirt. It's opaque and feels like it can hold up to everyday use although cleaning might be a chore; it's dry-clean only.

Here I've worn it layered over a black tee as-is. This is how the model shows it worn on "The Luxe Find" info sheet above. This silhouette is not good for my body type. I think it's too boxy and makes me look much bigger than I am. Also, the sleeves have no taper toward my wrists at all making the length look awkward. Then there are these sharp corners right at my hips that stand out in contrast to the drape of the rest of the top. My first thought was that I needed to create a waistline...

So, I added a belt to cinch the waist. This instantly looks a lot better to me. I also cuffed the sleeves to hide some of the bulk and give a more tailored look. The "corners" at the hips are still visible but are less prominent. This cardigan would be so much better if it just sloped from the front to back without those. I like the length and how the piece feels overall so I may try to do some tailoring to see if some of that excess fabric can be taken out or hidden.

There's a small gold emblem stitched on at the back of the collar – a nice little touch.

The Verdict: My "Back To Business" Bargain Box includes one item – a topper great for transitional weather. The fabric feels and looks luxurious and the style works well with the rest of my wardrobe. Like a lot of items, I need to do a bit of tweaking to make it work for my body, like cuffing the sleeves and adding a belt. I think to really enjoy this piece, I'd need to have those "corners" at the hip tailored. I think it will be worth it for a nice piece. The previous few months of my Luxe Catch boxes have had major sizing issues (too small). This prompted me to size up knowing I may need to have some things taken in. I'd recommend doing the same if you tend to have fit issues. The no return/exchange policy can be frustrating, so it's best to be ready for that going in.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? The “Back To Work” pre-order period has passed but you can check out the current theme on their Insta feed. If you sign up September 1-31, you'll receive the "Fall Forward" October box as your first catch. From Luxe Catch:

If you placed a new order between 1-31 of the month, it ships within the first two weeks of the following month. Example: If you order July 5th, expect your order to ship in the first two weeks of August. LUXE CATCH boxes renew every 15th of the month for existing subscriptions.

Value Breakdown: The item I received in my Bargain Box has an MSRP of $248. This box costs $50 (not including shipping), so that's a savings of $198 (or 80%) off MSRP. Many readers have mentioned being able to find these brands on sale for less at different retailers but I'm basing this breakdown on original MSRP.

You are gorgeous but that cardigan is hideous!

I wonder how many subscribers got this same item? For something this ill-fitting, they probably got a bunch of them at a super cheap price. It’s not that difficult to find nice clothing that actually fits and looks good at Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, etc.

Cindy

I would never buy a clothing box with no returns.

The label for the cardigan might say it’s dry clean only, but you can probably hand-wash it and hang to dry. Mild detergent or baby shampoo, swish it around in the water without scrubbing it. There are some good how-tos online for this.

Anyone can start a subscription box with no returns. Give me your money and I will run over to TJ MAX and get something for ya that may or may not fit or be your size and or style and either way your keeping it because you got it for 80% off. Atleast TJ MAX takes returns back. I don’t get why they can’t give returns because of the nature of the item ? It’s not food! I could go into a store and buy something that 2 other people tried on, or buy a returned item off clearance right? I know, let me stop. Sorry!

I checked online and found this for $32-38 and MSRP $218. The one box I receive had a gorgeous cashmere sweater in it, but I agree the sizing is problematic. I’ve tried a few clothing boxes and they all seem problematic – either cheap ill fitting items or overpriced or both. The rentals would annoy me. I would love to find a clothing box that works but there just doesn’t seem to be one.

Great review. But it would have been easier to see the piece from the box if you had worn a shirt of a different color. I agree with others… with a no return policy, I would never sub to this.

Thank you for the review.

This same cardigan is on amazon for less than the price of the box!

I wonder where they are getting these MSRPs from?

Warning if you’re considering this box. Luxe Catch charged me for my second box. Agreed to refund me, but never did. I’ve been fighting through the Better Business Bureau since September and they have stopped responding. The have stolen my money.

I wish these reviews would stop saying brands like YSL are in the box.
I got a box of completely ill-fitting clothes (not the size I ordered) from a bargain brand. Nicole Miller is not what I’d called luxury. They wouldn’t return anything but thankfully my credit card company gave me a partial refund.

I’m still shocked so many of you are expecting YSL for a box that costs $50, or $250….its not realistic! If you keep up with their newsletters, you’ll see they will be releasing a higher priced box to include the higher designer labels…..but to expect that in the cheaper boxes is just mind-blowing

Reply ButtonReply

SusanY

They are expecting it because it literally says they can expect to see those brands in this box. This review says that. People trust MSA to give accurate expectations. When they read “brands you can expect to see” and YSL is listed…

Totally agree. The reason I didn’t sign up for this subscription is I saw reviews of this box showing unknown brands with a high market price. That’s not very cool. Nobody is going to buy it at that market price.,,

AH

I’m all for a deal…but not willing to risk the hit-or-miss nature of paying to receive only one item which may or may not fit me–with no returns. I can find myself similar or better deals online, at places that will accept returns.

SquirrelyGirl

Bodies are so different that this box really needs to accept returns/exchanges or go off your exact measurements and cater pieces to the buyer. I wouldn’t even think of signing up for this, unless they changed that policy. There are better clothing boxes out there, in my opinion.

Del

100% agree!! I’ve been so tempted but unless they change that policy I will hold of. It’s not worth the gamble.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Exactly!

Emilia

That’s a very odd box. No exchanges is not helping, either.

NYAmicas

It looks so much better belted and I do like the gold M in the back.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

You made it look a lot better. That side pic at the bottom was beautiful.

I feel for 50 I can find better bargains on Nordstrom rack in my size and style but it’s a cool box for people that dont want to bargain shop and want magic delivered.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I agree—the side picture is striking! The “corner” pieces look really interesting and almost architectural with a belt. Maybe try wearing it that way a bit before tailoring?

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

I like it better flowing. The belt ruins the drape and movement. Same for the sleeves. They were designed for motion and fluidity. The photo from the back is lovely. There are no ‘weird corners’ except when belted. It looks all scrunched up.

tpop

Those ‘corners’ are weird. Maybe it would look better over a slim fitted dress so you don’t have the loose top under the loose cardigan?
