The materials in the box include:

Additional materials needed include a rolling pin and small round bowls. I didn't have a rolling pin, so I used a water glass. I used a paper plate to hold the green paint while painting the bowls. I also suggest something to cover your workspace while painting.

Let’s jump into this month’s Home Made Luxe project!

The first step was to roll out the clay using a rolling pin. Or, in my case, a glass. The clay was pliable, so this step was easy. I did notice that the clay picks up every piece of stray dirt, dust, or glitter! If this bothers you, be sure to start with a sparkly clean surface.

The next step was to apply the larger template on top of the rolled clay and use the X-Acto knife to cut out the leaf shape. The clay helps the template stay in place, so I didn't need to tape it down. I also found that quick small cuts worked best and didn't tear the paper template. This step took some time and patience.

After cutting the leaf template in the clay, I removed the template and used my fingers and the X-Acto knife to clean up the edges. This was a little tedious and my results weren’t perfect but I was satisfied with the outcome.

I repeated the above steps using the smaller template. I had plenty of clay leftover so, I let my daughter create another small monstera leaf.

Once the monstera leaves were fully cut out, I placed the clay upside down over small rounds bowls and let them dry for 24 hours. Three-fourths of the way through, I flipped the clay right side up to allow the underside to dry completely.

Once the bowls were completely dry, the next step was to use the sandpaper to smooth any rough edges. This method was extremely effective. I would have spent less time with the wet clay and X-Acto knife had I known smoothing the edges would be this easy.

Once the leaves were sanded, I prepped my workspace for painting and used the foam brush to paint each entire bowl green. I used the detailed brush to add detail and get paint in the hard to reach crevices. I mixed in a little white paint for a slightly lighter shade of green and a little black paint for a darker shade of green.

The final step, after the green paint dried, was to use the gold pen to outline the edges of the bowls. This step adds more character and a touch of luxe to the design. I decided to apply gold to the entire outer perimeter of the small leaf and to just the edges of the large leaf. I like the effect on both leaves.

I love how the project came out! What do you think?

The Verdict: This crafty project is Pinterest perfect! Monstera plants and products have become hugely popular and I'm happy to add these bowls to my collection. I have a monstera plant, small gold monstera earrings, and a monstera printed pouch.

The steps for this project were clear and not too difficult to follow. It took me a little over an hour to complete (not including the 24-hour dry time). I really like how they came out and I think these would make very nice gifts. They can be used to hold jewelry, keys, or other small items. Or, they can simply be a cute display piece.

To Wrap Up:

Value Breakdown: The cost of this box is $39.99 and creates at least one large and one small monstera clay bowl. I’m unable to fully calculate the retail value of the materials included in the box but all the products appeared of decent quality. Me too Annie! I played around with the color by adding a little white and black but I think the original picture was the best.
