Gwynnie Bee August 2019 Review

This review is for each of the three-at-a-time items I received August 7th, 2019:

Mirrored Paisley Cap Sleeve Shift Dress, Size 2x — Retail Value $31

I am a sucker for a retro paisley pattern, therefore closeting this dress was an absolute must! I love that the paisley design is on the sides, base hems, and shoulders to frame the Kelly green middle. The orange, yellow, red, and blue look phenomenal against the green as well! This piece has ample stretch that allows the fabric to hug the body well—it looks so cute on! I also adore the cap sleeves, and I find them to be rather flattering too. I couldn’t resist styling this dress with my orange faux cork heels and my green cat eyes to make the colors on the dress pop. You could also pair these with gold metallic flats and a matching bag due to the gold accent at the neckline. This will be a staple to wear at the office or for a summer wedding alike!

Multi Floral Smocked Waist Midi Dress by ModCloth, Size 2x — Retail Value $35.50, Purchased for $25.50 with $10 GB Rewards

Gwynnie Bee sent me yet another colorful stunner, this time by the ModCloth brand! I actually loved this dress so much, I decided to give it a forever home. Gwynnie Bee was having a sale that allowed me to apply a $10 GB Rewards credit I had for additional savings— you can’t beat that! Aside from the price being so right, the style of this dress was on point. I adore the smocked waist and mock neck details on this piece along with the beautiful retro floral pattern. Who knew mustard yellow, pink, red, azure, and navy could be so gorgeous paired together? I opted to pair this new addition to my closet with red-rimmed glasses and mustard pointy mules to enhance the dress even further. This will be an ideal piece to wear for the transition from summer to fall. On chillier days, simply style this with a classic faux leather biker jacket, fishnets, a mustard yellow beret, and ankle booties!

Sleeveless Collared Matte Jersey Jumpsuit by London Times, Size 20w  – Retail Value $63

I have a few London Times pieces and I am consistently impressed with their silhouettes and designs. All the items I own by them are rather comfortable and easy to wear, but also immensely stylish. I wore this jumpsuit to my office job and got loads of compliments. You can’t go wrong with black and white—this will easily pair with a virtual rainbow of colors. Style this with a yellow cardigan and black flats or a red biker jacket and heels. You will be set! I also appreciate that they have buttons down the front so this is simple to get in and out of to use the bathroom! Chic and easy to wear! For that alone, I give this piece two thumbs up!

Verdict: After all these years, I am still getting a kick out of Gwynnie Bee! Why you ask? I love the ability to rent pieces vs. buying them. Sometimes I don’t want to spend the big bucks or commit to something I may only want to wear once. I wore the jumpsuit to work and the very next day shipped it off to Gwynnie Bee. Did I mention their service includes free shipping both ways and free dry cleaning? That’s right, I don’t have to worry about laundering a thing with Gwynnie Bee! Plus, they allow you to closet pieces you want and you get points for the number of items your closet, when you return multiple pieces in one prepaid envelope, or when you purchase items. These points can lead to discounts on future purchases! They also have a GB Outlet where you can purchase previously rented pieces at a strong discount! For these reasons, Gwynnie Bee will always be a subscription box I not only suggest to friends, but one I love using myself!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! All three pieces are available to rent or purchase at Gwynnie Bee.

ACTIVE DEAL: Get 50% off your first month! No coupon needed - just use this link.

Value Breakdown: Gwynnie Bee’s costs range depending on your subscription and how many items you are sent at a time. I have the $95 three-item-at-a-time plan. This includes free shipping and returns. I can get as many pieces as I like monthly, as long as I return each item first. I got three items this month, but I could get several pieces sent to me in a month’s time if I return each piece after wearing promptly. The three items total up to $129.50, which is $34.50 more than my monthly subscription fee! Imagine the value if I had returned these pieces and received even more!

Nicole,

I keep wanting to ask you this but don’t want to derail the company you are reviewing.. This is NOT a subscription box I’m going to mention, but have you ever ordered from the Torrid website? I have a ” very unusual” bust measurement which makes most regular sized swimsuits out of my range if they’re young looking but still one piece suits ( I’m 62 years young) and got the prettiest swimsuit from them early this summer.

Their style is bright and a bit retro sometimes, but on the young side like Forever21.
Wondered if you’d tried them. They can’t be beat for swimsuits and their return policy and sales are second to none, IMO. 🙂 I probably have a local shop in a mall, but I don’t like to go to malls anymore.

Thanks for reading. 🙂

Lily, I actually worked with Torrid from 2002 to about 2007! I don’t shop there much these days, but I am very familiar with them. I really learned a lot about customer service and tailoring experiences to people in that field! I made a lot of lifelong friendships there too. I miss those days (and that fabulous discount) somedays! But yes, I have heard their lingerie/bras have improved vastly too, so i may need to invest in some!

The new Torrid bras are incredible. I just ditched all my VS bras and replaced them with Torrid. Highly recommend.

Nicole,
LOL, ” I am a bit psychic”- (old ” Frasier” joke, but I am)…. You just seem to fit their demographic very well because you are a * true genius* at styling ensembles to the nines. 🙂
I am so glad you left with good memories and friends so you can maybe shop there without bad feelings about walking into one of their shops.

Liz kind of has her signature key pieces from Forever21 ( they are in a bankruptcy reorganization or will be in a few days), and Torrid seems to me to be a similar shop for plus sizes. I think you put things together with so much charm and verve’. This site wouldn’t be the same without you, your photos and reviews of your sassy fashions. 🙂

I was having issues with GB and cancelled the service for 3 months or so. The things were taking a long time to get to them (and keeping me from getting more) and they were taking a long time to get to me. Also, things that were in the bags weren’t getting checked in on their end. Every single time. I hated having to keep track and contact them every single time. And I had 10 items at a time, so that was a lot of tracking.

I got awfully tired of doing laundry/dry cleaning and started losing weight with WW, so I came back. They really got themselves back together and running well. The shipping times are reasonable again and they have logged in every item. So, if you cancelled because of a similar annoyance, they seem to have their stuff together again. Yay!!

Awe, Tanya, I am sorry you had that experience with them! However, I am glad this go around has been so much better for you!

Linda

Every piece looks fabulous on you! I’m obsessed with that paisley dress, and a dress with pockets always has my heart.

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Linda! I loved that one too. I debated keeping it, but opted to keep the Modcloth one.

I LOVE the jumpsuit on you!!

I thought Mod Cloth went out of business.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Lily! Modcloth is definitely still around, but like Dia said is owned by Walmart. Eloquii is owned by them too!

Reply ButtonReply

AmyM

I didn’t know that about Eloquii! Interesting.
You look stunning, btw. As always! Why are you so perfect?!

dia

I believe modcloth is still very much in business, but it is not longer an independent company. It was bought out by jet.com which is a wholly owned subsidiary of walmart.
