Collections by Joya September 2019 Review

Collections by Joya includes a card in each month's box featuring a model style with several items from their collection. Last month's card featured bracelet stacking inspiration, and this month it's pendant necklace stacking. Pairing multiple pendant necklaces together is not something I would think to do on my own, but I love the look here!

On the back is a list of ways you can shop Joya—as a subscriber, online, hosting a trunk show, or collaborating by buying wholesale. It's set up like a postcard so you can spread the word.

Most months, the jewelry comes inside a canvas pouch. I've built up a serious collection of these guys, but they're awesome for gift-giving and to pack jewelry for travel.

Three-piece months are the best Joya months! And, you all know I'm an earring junkie so I was super-thrilled to see multiple pairs.

Tribal Alphabet Necklace, L — Retail Value $49.95

Joya has introduced me to a number of delicate necklace styles that I may not have chosen for myself but have ended up loving. And while I'm a sucker for a good hammered gold piece, this one doesn't feel quite bold enough for me. It's a member of their Tribal Necklace collection and is meant to be an abstract letter L. I actually received this same exact Tribal L pendant back in my fourth-ever Joya box in December of 2017. Some of the other letters feel more unique to me, and I think I might have liked a different one better, like maybe the K or the N.

Side note: I don't love that they use the term "tribal" to describe the artistic, geometric nature of these characters in the English alphabet. I felt that way back in December of 2017, too, and didn't mention anything in that review, but now that it's back in my awareness I thought I'd note it now.

Cleo Earrings in Black Onyx — Retail Value $48.95

On the other hand, these earrings are feeling extremely unique and exciting to me! I think this may be the first onyx stone that's come in my Joya box, which is exciting. The shape of the hammered brass (with 18k gold overlay) studs remind me of a pair of silver earrings my mum got in Santa Fe when I was a child, so there may be a hint of nostalgia factored into why this pair appeals to me so much.

Emmy Earrings in Moonstone — Estimated Value $59.95 (Blue Chalcedony version found here for $59.95)

These little danglies are so pretty! I'm digging the almond shape of their moonstones and the finely designed gold that hugs them. The fact that their pendants are affixed to their hooks, instead of being attached by a little loop, is something a little different. A few years ago I may have shied away from the slightly delicate nature of this pair, but right now they're feeling like a fresh addition to my collection. Perfect for dressing up or down!

Here is the gifting box and ribbon that comes almost every month. If you save a little of the sizzle that cushions the jewelry in your subscription, it makes for a nice, festive stuffing for this tube.

Verdict: I'm overall pleased with what I received in my September Joya box. The necklace was a miss for me for a few reasons, but will make for a nice gift. Both pairs of earrings felt exciting to me!

This box costs $49.95, including free shipping. The earrings and two necklaces add up to $158.955. The Joya subscription never fails to be a great deal!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order by 10/8 to get the October box! From Joya:

Orders placed by the 8th of the month will be shipped on the 10th of that month.  All subscriptions will ship on the 10th of each month or the next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday.

Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, you are paying an average cost of $16.65 per piece.

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.
