Click and Grow Smart Garden 3 - Retail Value $99.95

This is the perfect way to ease a notorious plant killer like me into a small kitchen garden. I loooove basil (which the Smart Garden comes with) but currently have three dead basil plants on my front porch. A green thumb, I do not have. It has a very clean design that is really easy to set up and it looks pretty cool in my dining room where I have it displayed.

The Smart Garden has three spots to plop in the basil (or other pods available) and an LED lamp above. It even comes with two extensions to add to the lamp as your plants grow taller. In the booklet and on the little plastic tag, you'll see that the lamp has an automatic timer that is on for 16 hours, then off for 8. They suggest that you plug it in as soon as you wake up in the morning for the first time so that the light doesn't disturb your slumber. Once plugged in, it'll do its thing without any assistance needed.

The basil seeds come already in soil, in three convenient little pods packaged together. You can order more (as well as many other seeds) from their website. Each spot in the base of the garden has a plastic reusable K-Cup-looking container that will hold the soil pod as well as a tiny cover and dome to help it begin to grow.

I plopped the soil pods into the containers and placed the lid and dome on top, as instructed. Each one then went into the base of the garden. The little rounded plastic rectangular doohicky you see on the left of the base of the garden in the 3rd photo (that kinda looks like a button) is where you pour the water. It will float up to the top when it's full. When you see it dip down- that's your cue to add more water. The final photo in the group above shows my tiny little budding babies if you look closely. That happened after just about four days! Very exciting! Once the plants start to hit the domes, I'll remove them so they can grow tall. I'll have to report back, but for now- this gadget seems Marne (read: fool)-proof. I can see this being a fun thing to do with kids as well, but I enjoyed it as an adult all on my own too.

Dr. Save Vacuum Storage Kit + Four Extra Storage Bags - Estimated Retail Value $56.58 (Buy the storage kit for $39.95, additional 6 ct of large bags found here for $24.95)

As someone who loves to keep things organized as well as travel, this vacuum storage set is a great item to see in the box! I've tried the cheaper ones that you only roll to get the air out of, but those never stay compressed for long. The kit from Dr. Save includes eight bags total in two sizes to use for storage or travel. I'll most likely use these when I'm traveling cheap and want to save on paying extra for a carry-on or checked bag.

The bags have a resealable edge that opens like your standard resealable sandwich bag so you can pile in as much clothing as will fit. There's also a valve on each bag, similar to an inflatable device, that you'll be attaching the vacuum to remove air.

The kit also comes with a chubby little vacuum that takes AA batteries. Once you have the bag filled with the clothing you want to store, simply squeeze out as much of the air as you can through the valve and attach the vacuum. One press of the button turns it on and starts sucking out all of the extra air which compresses the bag and everything inside of it. I tossed the cardigan I have in my office into a bag and vacuum sealed it about four days ago and it's still super compressed. Success!

Air Lock Bag Resealer Lite - Retail Value $12.95

I eat a lot of chips. Potato, tortilla, you name it. This handy little device takes freshness seriously and can reseal any plastic bag permanently to make sure my pretzels and kettle-cooked chips don't go stale. I currently just use a rubber band to keep my various bags shut, and let me tell you, it doesn't do the best job. Using micro-thermal technology and a couple of AA batteries, all you have to do it press the two ends together gently (kind of like a stapler) around the bag and drag it along the opening you want to be sealed (check out a video here for a slightly different version). The other end also has a cutter you can use to reopen as needed. Even better- there's a magnet on the back of it to keep it handy on the fridge! I've tried this on several different bags and it does a great job. What I'll be using it for the most it resealing open bags of veggies and dressings from my Hungry Root deliveries (which a few of us here at MSA subscribed to after reading Lacey's review). Perfect!

Lave Classic Shoe Cleaning Kit - Retail Value $14.00

I'm actually pretty pumped about this shoe cleaning kit! I have a TON of shoes from sneakers to heels to oxfords and I've NEVER cleaned them once! Lave's "classic" kit contains a brush and a 4-ounce bottle of premium shoe cleaner which says it'll clean 100 pairs. The package says that the solution is safe to use on leather, canvas, and suede which means that I can use this on my handbags as well. Score! I'm excited to test this one out on some suede, specifically, since that is a material I seem to mess up the easiest.

Sous Shop Portable Infuser Bottle - Listed Value $25.00

This infuser bottle is a really cool idea. I've always been tempted to buy the ones I see at the store to put fruit into because I am way into "spa water" but this one is more specifically for tea. It's made of thick glass that is shock resistant from -4 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit and holds 13.5 ounces of liquid. Both the top and bottom caps screw off. The lid has a rubber loop for easy carrying and the bottom is where the tea infuser basket is located. There's a faux-leather sleeve on it that slides off but when using really hot water, it doesn't do much to protect your hand from the heat. I used some of the tea that Breo Box included (more on that below) and followed the directions to add a little under 2 tsp of tea to the basket and screwed the bottom cap back on. Once my water was ready, I poured it in through the top and allowed it to steep. The only awkward part is that with many teas, you'll only want to steep for a certain amount of time before removing the tea so it doesn't get bitter. The Ginger Grapefruit tea I used only needed 2 minutes, so I had to tip the bottle rubber loop side down, remove tea basket from the other end, and screw the bottom lid back on to enjoy the tea from the bottle itself. I suppose it'd be easier to simply pour the tea into a mug once it's done steeping, but this is supposed to be a travel bottle to use on the go. Alternately, I could still put some fruit in there and just go the spa water route which wouldn't require me to remove it until I was done.

TeaHaus Tea Tasting Set - Listed Value $15.00 (An undetermined size found here for $6.24)

To help us enjoy the infuser bottle, Breo has also sent a tea sampler with three teas from TeaHaus (who also happens to have a monthly subscription). Ginger Grapefruit, Nepal Mystic, and Roasted Almond are the three featured teas in this cute little gift box. They all smell fantastic and include a description and brewing instructions for each right on the bag. Depending on how big of a cup you like to have, each bag has at least 2 servings, I'd say. Probably more. They aren't labeled and I am bad at estimating volume, but they each weighed around a half ounce, give or take. So far, I've tasted the Ginger Grapefruit which is a green tea and quite yummy. These will be great to try on cool fall nights.

*Note: Since neither the bags here or the bags on TeaHaus' website are marked with weight or volume, I can't confirm that they are the same size and thus if the listed value is correct or not.

The sampler also comes with a tasting note booklet as well as how to brew the perfect cup of tea.

The Yoga Man(ual) by Jen Murphy - Retail Value $20.00 (Found here for $13.59)

The last item in this season's box is a yoga manual targeted towards men. It's written by a woman (Jen Murphy) but has a forward by Chief Spokesperson for Yoga Alliance, Andrew Tanner. He explains why this book fills a void in the market for "regular guys" to get into the practice of yoga. Throughout the book, there are profiles of many different types of men, easy to understand instructions with cool illustrations, and many answers to questions on etiquette, form, styles, definitions, and other helpful tips. I'll definitely be gifting this book to my Dad, who years ago took up yoga by learning it from a used book he purchased. This one is probably a lot more updated with lots of great advice from yoga experts he'll identify with.

Verdict: Breo Box hooked it up! The seven items I received were all super cool or would make great gifts and have a total retail value of about $243.48. Some of the listed values seemed a little off, so I used a mix of what I could find with what was listed if I couldn't confirm a value online. If this were to be your first box, the cost would only be $144 when using our $15 coupon, which gives you a considerable discount. My favorite has to be the Smart Garden since I am plant-challenged and the vacuum bags and resealer will come in handy all the time for me. I think this would make a great gift for those who like new technologies and discovering tools to make life easier.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, subscribe by Oct 31st to get this as your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $144 for this box ($159 for the first box minus the $15 coupon), you're paying roughly $20.57 per item.

Really on the fence about getting this. I really wanted to get the planter and like the vacuum travel bags and bag resealer, but that’s all I’d want and I feel like it’s not worth it to pay $144 with.

I always love seeing these reviews. There’s no way I could afford this box, but if I was rich, I’d be so on it. It’s always the neatest gadgets and things that I wouldn’t think of on my own, but would be stoked to get them. Wish my budget was bigger!

This is such a unique box! I don’t sub but just from the review alone I think I would’ve loved it. The planter and the vacuum sealer would be so useful for me as I’ve always wanted to get into growing my own plants + I’m going on an international trip soon, and I love tea so the water bottle is useful. Makes me wanna sub; if only I had an extra $144 to spare lol

What’s up with their loyalty pricing?? I like this box but if they stop that program I may be done. I understand giving new subscribers an incentive to join but I was really impressed when Breo started rewarding their loyal subscribers. Has that ended?

Sophia

The loyalty program, which provide the decreasing price with increasing # of boxes you get, is cancelled. The customer service rep told me on 9/13.

Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t get any notification. I guess this is my last box then. They advertised the loyalty program when it started but nothing was said when it stopped??

Mindy

When does this start? I was still charged the loyalty pricing for this box.

I love the men’s yoga manual. Guys really have a hard time with beginning yoga (men get much more strength, women get much more flexibility…it’s scientifically proven that there is a gender difference…get over it). The value is there, but the price tag is a bit too high for me at the moment. It’s a very nice box, though.

Love this box. I have no problem with the “yoga for men” thing – it’s not like women can’t use it exactly the same way, and I can imagine some of us getting our menfolk to participate because somehow this marketing wrapper makes it more manly. I like the idea of the tea tumbler but probably won’t use it, so gift/swap it goes. Planter – YES! That’s even better than my little hydropod, which has real basil growing in it right now. Vacuum bags, check. Sealer, oh yeah, I’ve had my eye on one of those gadgets for a while. Waiting on my shipment notification!

I would love to trade for the Smart Garden. If anyone is interested in trading their Smart Garden click on my name to view my listings. Thanks!

Love the smart garden, would appreciate and use the space saving bags, bag resealing tool and shoe cleaning kit! The remaining items cheapen the box for me. The “sous shop” infuser bottle seems like something I’d get for free at a conference and I don’t really want a brand advertised so loudly on my water/tea bottle, especially a mystery one that I can’t even find when I do a search for this item. The gendered yoga book bothers me. Why not just send a non-gendered book for all subscribers? One of the awesome qualities of this box is that it is usually androgynous. Leads me to believe they just got a good deal for that item and used it as filler. Real yoga is not gendered anyway. I wanted to order this box based on the first few spoilers but now I’m getting a sketchy vibe. It feels like I’d be buying the most expensive house on the block for a few of the items and I’m not sure the rest justify the price for my own personal budget.

I really like the planter idea! I have 4 big basil plants, on my back window ledge area, that I will have to use up soon – before Winter hits the area! I’d love being able to keep them inside in something like this! I tried bringing them in, last winter – that didn’t work so well.
We just don’t get enough sunshine for them inside.

Marne Orenich

I hear you! I’m always struggling with plants. I’ve noticed that I do a lot of overwatering, but sunlight is a big issue for my plant babies too.
