Boxwalla Beauty Box October 2019 Review

Each Boxwalla box comes with a letter printed on high-quality cardstock detailing the item(s) included. This month just has one product from South African brand African Botanics, but the retail value makes it well worth it.

African Botanics Le Masque Hydralift Intense with box

African Botanics Le Masque Hydralift Intense, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $180.00

First of all- WHOA. This may just very well be the most expensive single item I've received in a subscription box. Let me compose myself for a moment. The box that this 1.7-ounce tube comes in is very classy in a minimal way but the tube itself is sadly a bit of a let-down. For the price point, I must say that I was expecting something a little more special. Maybe a metal tube? A glass pump? But ok, the packaging isn't everything. I'm moving on.

The ingredients include micro and mini hyaluronic acids, South African aloe Ferox, fermented yeast, saccharides, resurrection plant, and mallow along with red seaweed, micronutrient-rich microalga glucans, laminaria algae, and chlorella sorokiniana, algae, and thorny shrub. Those are many, many things I am not familiar with but they work together to boost hydration and protect the skin.

The viscosity of this mask is kind of right in the middle of thick and thin. It's not as thick as a traditional mask but holds a droplet shape much longer than your average serum. It's milky in color and feels slightly slippery and not sticky at all, even when dry. It's not like a usual mask I've used in that when I spread it onto my face, it's clear and therefore a little tricky to easily find where I need to add more besides the slight glossiness it leaves behind.

There are two ways to use this mask- the first being as a "day mask" that you leave on for 15-30 minutes before washing off. As I massaged it onto my cleansed face, it slightly foamed but otherwise stayed completely clear and did feel like a thicker serum. After 30 minutes, I rinsed it off and my skin felt... the same? I took a before and after photo for my own reference and I am struggling to see a physical difference either. I know it was only one use, but again, for the price point- I was expecting some drastic result in some way. All I can see is that perhaps my skin looked a bit more balanced and less blotchy.

Okay- so I wanted to try the second use: an overnight mask. The directions on the website as well as in the Boxwalla info card say to mix in a couple of drops of facial oil before adding a thin layer to the face. I decided to go with the amazing 5Yina Lucent Summer Beauty Oil I got back in June's box. Again, I massaged it in circular motions and got slight foaming around my chin and lower face but not much anywhere else. I let it sit on my skin for a while to dry before laying my head on my pillow to sleep. In the morning, I had almost forgotten I had had a mask on since it dries clear and felt fully absorbed. That seems like a good thing, though. I assume that means my skin drank it all up. There wasn't really a big reveal moment, I simply rinsed my face with water. This is most likely a product that needs to be used regularly to see results over time, but thus far it has just been an interesting high-end beauty item to try.

Verdict: I love Boxwalla Beauty but this mask just did not wow me right off the bat like I thought it would. I was expecting major feelings about the ritual or the results and while there was nothing negative about this mask- it just didn't excite me like past products curated by Boxwalla. I will continue to use the mask to try and achieve long-term results since it's gentle enough to use daily. Getting a $180 product for $49.95 is really exciting, so I am glad I got to try it at this price.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you have until September 20th to sign up and get this box, but hurry before it sells out!

Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, I got over a 72% discount on the mask.

Thank you for your fantastic review! I am still on the fence for October. Any update on the mask and if you have seen any differences with continued use?

Thank you for the great review. Through my Boxwalla Subscription, I have the Resurrection Cell Recovery ($160) and Fleurs D’Afrique Intensive oil ($250) and although I planned to skip Boxwalla for the next two months, I cannot help but complete the brand with anything I can so I will get this as well. I am hoping that a dang near $600 face routine oughta give an auntie some kind of rejuvenation but like you, time will tell. I hope I hope and pray Lavanya isn’t killing the game for December and my budget can have a break. LOL

I was wondering if you had an update on this product? What are your thoughts after continued use? Thank you!!

Love Boxwalla, but I’m glad I skipped this month, especially after reading your review. I was also put off by the plastic packaging. This product just was not interesting enough to me, even with the huge discount.
