Stitch Fix Kids August 2019 Review

In our Stitch Fix Kids box, there were several bright and colorful information sheets, a set of cute stickers, and some information about how to get featured on their Instagram page.

This is the invoice that was sent in the box. It provides specifics on the brand, size, and price of each item. They also give instructions at the bottom for how to check out and either purchase or return your items in the pre-paid postmarked envelope they provide. The items for my daughter came to a total of $192, but with the 25% discount (which they take off BEFORE they deduct the $20) and the $20 credit, our total drops down to $124.00. That's a savings of $68 on this box!

This is the included style sheet, which features pictures of all the clothing and a note from her stylist, Isabel. Her stylist usually does a great job of listening to my feedback and sending Liv pieces that she thinks she'll love. I think she really aims to send pieces that suit Liv's personality such as her love of dancing!

Hevelyn Cold Shoulder Swing Dress by Chenault Girl, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $24.00

This is such a fun, pretty dress! It features the cold shoulder look, but the holes are smaller so it doesn't make quite the same statement that they sometimes do. I love the colors, the pretty pink roses, and the cute bell sleeves. The material is also super soft and comfortable and Liv was definitely a fan of this one as well! I actually sized her up this month since she has grown a bit taller over the last month or so and I was pleased to see that this fit her well but still leaves a little room to grow.

Kelis Tie Front Graphic Tee by Third Wish Clothing, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $16.00

This top was another favorite this month (more pictures below)! The gradient colors in this sequin heart look so vibrant against the black background. The top also has a cute little tie at the bottom and while it fits her a little bit loosely, I'm okay with that since it means she won't grow out of it before the fall! The fabric is stretchy and a bit thin so we'll have to see how it holds up over time since this is a new brand for us from Stitch Fix.

Holly Seamless Legging by Capelli New York, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $12.00

These leggings are not quite our style design-wise. They were also so long on her and ended up being super scrunched up on her legs and too big in the waist. I do like that they are seamless and they feel like they would be comfortable and the quality wasn't bad.

Jess Tulip Hem Pullover by Love Glam Girl, Size S - Cost to Keep $22.00

This pullover was pretty cute! I love the metallic "Let's dance, dance, dance" text on the front that is perfect for my little twirling girl. It also has a cute little hem at the bottom, but since it's a bit big on her, you sort of lose that fun design aspect. This was also super soft and comfortable, but she wasn't as crazy about it as I thought she would be.

Leah Knit Legging by RUMI + RYDER, Size S - Cost to Keep $12.00

These leggings are the right color for Liv, but they were very thin to the point where it looked a little funky on her rear end since you could see her underwear. Plus they had a dirt stain on the back of one of the pant legs so these were an easy pass.

Lily Skinny Jean by Warp + Weft, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $28.00

These are the same brand and color of a pair of shorts she received in a previous Fix, but they are also a size larger since I just sized her up in her profile, meaning they were huge on her (pictured below). Oops! The quality is nice, they feature an adjustable waistband as well as front and rear pockets, but even if these had fit her I think I would send them back because this pale color is just begging to get dirty. Traditional denim jeans are probably best for this active 4-year-old!

Leonie Crochet Detail Top by Third Wish Clothing, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $18.00

I really love this shirt! I think it describes my daughter perfectly and the gray with a few sparkles and sequins and those lace sleeves make it a really unique top as well. I also thought the cut of this one was stylish, although hard to tell on her since she is a bit slim for her tall frame. As long as the tops fit her lengthwise, I am not usually too worried about the width as long as everything is covered up. Also, note the jeans in the photo here - much too long!

The Classic Tight Fitting Shorts Sleepwear Set by RUMI + RYDER, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $20.00

I love these pajamas! They are so cute and feature some beautifully colored dinos, which are a favorite around our house. While the quality was fine and they were a cute board short style that she would be comfortable in, I just don't like paying this much for a single pair of pajamas. Since I knew we weren't keeping these, we didn't try them on, but we did try the pair on from her May Fix and size 6 fit her perfectly then, so I'm sure this size would have been fine. Although I do wonder why this pair was only $20 and the other one was $24 to keep? They look the same to me.

Tianna Tutu Skirt by Chenault Girl, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $24.00

This skirt is definitely her style and so pretty with the colors fading into one another. I love the sheer overlay and the sparkly, stretchy waistband. While this is the same brand and size as the dress she tried on, this skirt was way too big on her. So much so that it was falling off of her waist. It definitely seems like it fits much bigger than the dress they sent does. Inconsistent sizing is something we seem to run into sometimes with this service, but at least they do free exchanges!

Shea Tie Sleeve Keyhole Back Top, Size 7 - Cost to Keep $16.00

Of course, Liv loved this shirt since it was pink and features a sequin unicorn on the front. I thought it was cute, but it was the least favorite of mine out of the three she received. I do like the cute tie details at the sleeves and this one did fit her similarly to the other two shirts which were both from the same brand. Long enough, but a bit too wide.

The Verdict: This month we received another great Fix from Stitch Fix Kids that felt tailored to my daughter's style thanks to her wonderful stylist. Since I did just size her up in her profile, we had a few issues with sizing, but this is something I am constantly trying to figure out myself with this tall, slim four-year-old! We were introduced to some new brands this month and I thought the quality and fit of those were great so I'm happy to see that they are able to keep up with her growing body and her style. We have fun seeing what her stylist sends each month and for $20, it feels like a nice convenience to have the items shipped right to our house!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Stitch Fix curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what we got, but you will probably get something that fits your child's style and size even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $192. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee for the box is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $124. That’s a discount of around 35% for these items!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

What did you keep? So jealous the kids get 10 items.

I don’t know if I would want 10 items or not! I think it would definitely make more sense for the adults though! We don’t grow as fast! 🙂 We ended up keeping the blue dress and the black heart shirt this month. Since we do it every month, I usually only let her pick a couple so we don’t end up wasting clothing! 🙂

Some cute stuff, and your daughter is adorable! My daughter is a size 8, and we’ve had similar sizing issues with Stitch Fix. I mention in her profile that she’s tall and thin, yet we keep getting really wide shirts and dresses (one of the swing dresses would have worked for me as a shirt!). Hoping as the service becomes more popular they’ll get more inventory and have more options like regular SF. I do like that they now have Style Shuffle for kids too!

Thanks, Jill! 🙂 and YES! I love the style shuffle for kids now and so does my daughter! It is so tough for the tall girls though. I feel like they are slowly expanding their inventory a bit so hopefully your daughter will start having better luck! Thanks for reading! 🙂
