Slay Glam Box July 2019 Review

Slay Glam sends an info card each month with an itemized list of what’s in your box, including retail values.

If you follow @slayglambox on Instagram, the box curator enables subscribers to choose certain items each month by DMing or commenting your item choice; I love this feature! This month I was able to customize which color lipstick I received.

Manna Kadar Goddess Brow Defining Kit - Retail Value $29, Listed Value $39

This eyebrow kit includes the palette, a double-sided pencil and two brushes. The little duo isn't included in this kit; it is listed as a separate item this month.

Even though there is quite an array of colors in this palette, I had a hard time finding a color to match my brows. A lot of the colors were chalky without a lot of payoff but ended up blending okay in my brows. I used the spoolie to brush my brow hairs up, then used the other brush, which is thicker than I like, to dispense the powder through the shape of my brows. The palette also comes equipped with 3 brow stencils, which I did not utilize since my brows are microbladed.

The definer/highlighter pencil went on smoothly, but the definer was too warm for my complexion. The definer pencil is a little thicker than I like as well, but I made the product work for me by applying it very lightly throughout my brows, then brushing out the excess color with the spoolie from the kit. The highlighter shade was perfect for me, and it definitely made my eyebrows pop by blending it out underneath my brows.

Manna Kadar 3-in-1 Contour, Shadow & Blush - Retail Value $21

This is an item I've received before, maybe a few times from different subs. This 3-in-1 has a multitasking bronzer/blush shade and a gold-champagne highlighting shade. Neither shade is very pigmented (swatches below), but they blend nicely into the skin, adding some subtle color.

Swatches: Manna Kadar 3-in-1, duo pencil, brow palette

Cailyn Cosmetics O! WOW Brush Blender - Retail Value $15 (Found here for $11.09)

I love receiving beauty tools in subscriptions! I use a beauty sponge daily (usually the Real Techniques sponge) for foundation and other liquid or cream base products, but this sponge is so different from anything I've tried. I would have never picked it out myself because of its odd fuzzy appearance, but wow, it can really blend! The size of the sponge doesn't change much when it is damp, and its microfiber texture doesn't soak up a lot of your product (less waste!). I do feel like I have to work a little harder to blend product in, but the end result is worth it.

Docolor Stars and Stripes Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $14.99

This very patriotic palette is great for a colorful look. There is a nice mix of finishes including mattes, shimmers and even some sparkle. The mattes were chalky, yet workable, and the shimmers swatched nicely; I especially like the aqua! The colors in this palette give me more of a primary color vibe than patriotic, and I am into it!

Docolor Palette swatched left to right, top to bottom.

Cailyn Cosmetics Pure Luxe Lipstick in #08 Rose - Retail Value $19 (Found here for $11.49)

Another winning product from Cailyn! This lipstick really looks and feels luxe. The pigment is outstanding, as is the moisturizing texture and fruity smell of this delightful lippie. I was able to choose the color I wanted this month, and I am so glad I went for this bold red; it is gorgeous! It is like confidence in a tube.

Here is the look I created using all the makeup products from this month’s Slay Glam Box. This red lipstick is an instant lift of spirit! And the Cailyn sponge really blended out my face products like a dream. The eyeshadow performed like an average drugstore shadow, as did the eyebrow products, but I can't complain about the final look I ended up with.

Verdict: I really enjoyed July's Slay Glam Box curation. This box has a retail value of $88.57 using retail and sale prices - all for under $25! I liked the array of products featured this month, especially the products from Cailyn.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

This box is more expensive than Fashionsta and Boxycharm, I wouldn’t personally subscribe to it. If you love beauty boxes you should check out the new one by Fashionsta.

Nice review, but I would be careful when reviewing this box if I were you. The owner of Slay Glam Box has bullied and harassed people who have given this box a negative review in the past. She bullied a couple of YouTubers who gave the February box a bad review. I’m just saying this because I don’t want to see you or any other MSA reviewers get harassed or bullied for giving an honest review that was unfavorable to the box itself.

Agreed. Feels like you dont know if you are getting an honest review, after seeing fingerprints and nasty dried up products.

Also, how they were sending out sephora products….no sub box company can do that…idk I’d avoid this one

Girl, that shadow must be super sheer because I can’t even tell you’re wearing eyeshadow 🙈

It really didn’t have the best pigment! I used the yellow as a base and a red as my liner, and it definitely didn’t last all day.

Ya, I ultimately dropped the sub because I found I wasn’t reaching for the products that are included in this sub. Lots of “box specific” brands like Bella Pierre, Beauty Creations, Doucce and Manna Kadar. The Beauty Creations palette I got had beautiful colors but the quality was awful, barely any pigment and No longevity at all . 😕

Hadiyah

The bottom of the lipstick has a gloss pot hidden there with a gloss of the same color.
