Look Fantastic August 2019 "The Heatwave Edition" Review

Each box comes with a booklet that tells you more about the products included with tips on how to use them.

I always love keeping Look Fantastic boxes around to store makeup, jewelry, and other important things in because they are always so sturdy and beautiful.

We also received a few UK exclusive promos.

Now, on to the items!

Luxie 737 Tapered Highlighter Brush - Retail Value $34.00

This is one sleek brush! I like the matte handle and found it super easy to hold. The bristles were fluffy and dense, perfect for grabbing up the right amount of powder, blush, or highlighter.

Bellapierre Heatwave Highlight Palette, 9 g - Listed Value $36.43 (£29.99)

I am pretty much Bellapierre'd out. I only see this brand in boxes (frequently!) and I never find the formulas exactly impressive, nor the packaging. This set of 5 highlighters could use more variety in terms of colors as a few of them look super similar when swatched (see below). The formula was fine, though I found using my fingertips for application worked much better than a brush.

I do feel like there could have been more variety.

Doucce Lip Stain in Holiday Getaway, 0.059 fl oz - Listed Value $14.52 (£11.95)

First, I like this color. It is a peachy tone that would work well in summer or fall. I am not a huge fan of this brand, because once again, it seems to be something I exclusively see in subscription boxes and the formula isn't quite there. I am also pretty confused about this being called a "stain" as it isn't one and performs much more like a super-thin liquid lipstick. I would absolutely adore this color in a glossy or satin finish formula much more.

Still a great peachy shade!

Natura Herb Infused Sheet Mask - Retail Value $7.00

I loved this sheet mask! It fit so well and had a delightful herbal scent that was the perfect amount of minty green magic. I was a little worried it might be drying, especially since it is meant for blemish control, but that wasn't the case. My skin felt super soft and very calm after using it, and I was noticeably less flushed.

James Read 1 Hour Tan Glow Mask Face, 25 ml - Estimated Value $5.50 (Buy a full size 200 ml for $44.00)

I don't really use self-tanners, and I certainly don't use them on my face since I can't really hide that if the formula is bad or orange. I did test it out on my arm, and I did have a "tan" in about an hour. It was not nearly subtle enough for me to trust on my face, especially since I have gross dry spots, but I can verify that it does work. The formula was a clear gel and mercifully lacked that recognizable self-tanner scent. As always, I have mixed feelings about including tanning products because so many subscribers don't need or use them.

You can easily see where I used the tanning gel and where I didn't!

Rituals The Ritual of Holi Body Cream, 3.3 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $8.00

Finally, our last item is a really nice cream with a strong floral scent. I personally enjoy the smell and thought the cream felt great on my hands. This is a great size for tossing into your purse to have close by throughout the day.

And this box includes the latest issue of  Elle UK Magazine:

The Verdict: Look Fantastic Beauty Box was a little polarizing for me this month. Sure, I liked the brush, sheet mask, and cream, but I really wasn't feeling the lip product, palette, or self-tanning mask. My hard estimate of the value this month (based on retail and suggested values if I couldn't find retail) is around $105.45 which is great for a $19 subscription. It just didn't feel like that much value in my hands. Do I think this was still fine for a $19 box? Sure! Especially if you liked more of the items.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! (This page will let you know what box is currently available.)

Value Breakdown: At $19 for this box, here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • Luxie Brush $6.13
  • Bellapierre Palette $6.56
  • Doucce Lip Stain $2.62
  • Natura Herb Sheet Mask $1.26
  • James Read Tanning Face Mask $0.99
  • Rituals Cream $1.44

Alternatively, the average cost of each of the 6 items is $3.17.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This box is always so beautifully curated and the presentation doesn’t even compare to some of the other popular boxes. I love the booklet and mini Elle! I agree though, this box was “eh” for me, however the value for me is always stellar. If I think about the fact that I pay $1 less for Birchbox and get the tiniest samples on the planet, that in itself makes this box worthwhile. Love my Look Fantastic!

I received an orange or orange red lip pie in all 7 of my boxes in the past month. I’m a redhead. Orange of any type is a no. WHY is everyone rolling these out? It does not incentivize me to buy the brand in another color. It just makes me go, Ugh! There are very few people that can pull off those colors and they know it. Their just sending old, unsold stock to sub box companies. I’m am not wearing a color that Ronald Macdonald could pull off.

Juice beauty is organic and a box is a win for me if it contains an organic product. I give everything else away to my daughter and her friends.

I received a different variation this month, no self tanner. I got a Vita Liberata bb/cc cream in latte, so I guess I scored on this one. I used the highlighted to make a subtle “natural” eye look. I don’t tend to use highlighters on the rest of my face because as an oily girl, the last thing I want to do is shine anymore then I already do! This box was a win for me.

I actually didn’t like the spoilers as I wanted more skincare but once I had the box in hand, I really liked it! Of course like others said it depends on if you can use the products or not but that is true of any sub… I like this box better than ipsy which I just cancelled. At least products are mostly full sized so the items I won’t use can be gifted and not look like free samples. I did not open the lip product as its not my shade. But the highlight and brush were really nice, and I appreciate that they were included together. I love Rituals and Holi smells really good. And the mask and tanning gel(since it is not orange!) will both be used. Just to fangirl a little, I LOVE their boxes and tissue paper it really is a nice presentation!

Not my fave LF by a long shot – also, my highlighter arrived broken. CS was great but I didn’t really feel like it was worth resending as I could tell from the remaining pans that it was powdery. The only thing that was useful to me was the brush.

Does anyone know if we have the option to skip months for Lookfantastic if we’re on a prepaid?

amber

I don’t think you can. You could try to chat with CS, but in my experience, you’ll talk to someone who knows nothing about the subscription.

Thanks Amber 🙂 I thought about reaching out to them, but thought I’d ask here first. I was already under the impression that I couldn’t, but I thought I’d ask anyways. 🙂 I’m trying to eliminate as many subs as I can in November & December for the holidays, but I guess two $16 boxes won’t kill me. lol

I love this box! What I won’t use is something I know someone else will love! This is consistently my favourite box!!

You’re right, polarizing box! At $19, it’s a good value IF the products work for you. It’s the same with including sunglasses in sub boxes. I have prescription lenses and can’t use them. I don’t use self-tanners mostly because I stink at applying and gave up long ago lol! The James Read product looks like it would provide a nice, not overdone color for legs though!

I think the mask sounds great and will look for it elsewhere!

Thanks, Megan!

Bellapierre, Doucce, and Manna Kadar are all brands I could do without in sub boxes.

tfanous

Yes. And I can do without Juice Beauty as well.

Same — I think this month is boring. I would have only liked the body cream, which is $8, so I would have wasted $$$ on this box.
