JourneeBox Summer 2019 Review

Included is a highly detailed booklet with info about all of the products. The theme this month is "A Journee to the South of France" which sounds pretty darn dreamy. Since I have no real travel plans left this summer, I will absolutely take a mental escape to France with this box as my guide!

Tunic - Retail Value $85.00

I generally wear an XL in tops, but because I am beyond "gifted" up top, I decided to play it safe and request the 1X in this tunic because I assumed it wouldn't stretch and I was unfamiliar with the sizing. I feel like I def. could have sized down, though this oversized fit does lend itself well to a swimsuit coverup. The quality is great! It is a soft and light rayon with really cute details around the sleeves, neck, and hem. I initially had trouble picking a color because they all seemed rather bright and your girl is much more neutral these days when it comes to clothing. I went way out of my comfort zone with the purple and although this is not a color I would wear often, I don't think it was half bad on me.

I do think I looked more than a little frumpy in this tunic, but sizing down would have really helped. It also occurred to me that this would be super comfy to sleep in, so that is another option, especially as I love loose long tops to snooze in.

Organic Herbes de Provence - Listed Value $13.00

Mmmmm I love a good herb blend and this one is stellar. I like to use Herbes de Provence blends when I cook poultry, and I have been known to use similar blends on my Thanksgiving turkeys. This potent blend of thyme, rosemary, basil, and tarragon also features lavender buds which make it that much more special and aromatic.

3-Piece Cheese Knives - Retail Value $12.00

I am a cheese enthusiast (addict?) and I have a few cheeseboards I like to arrange when I have company. I don't really have many dedicated cheese knives and accessories, so I was pretty excited to open this pouch. The handles of these pieces are made of bamboo, which is sustainable as well as attractive.

Organic Cotton Tea Towel - Listed Value $18.00

This 100% organic cotton towel features a charming illustration inspired by Cannes. I generally keep tea towels close by to wrap warm bread in or hang them from a hook by my stove for spills. I like the little pops of color on this towel and the setting is very French indeed.

White Citrus Tea Soap - Retail Value $6.00

As soon as I opened the box this magical blend of citrus, flowers, and musk hit my nose. They honestly need to make this scent into a perfume. This fancy yet rustic French-made soap would be perfect for a powder room or in a cute dish by your kitchen sink. I find the cube shape pretty adorable and I love how each side is stamped.

Cassis Cuff and Earring Set - Listed Value $103.00

The texture of these hammered pieces is meant to look like the gentle ripples of the Mediterranean sea on the shore of Cassis, France. I found that I liked the earrings more than the cuff itself, which was a little too wide for my tastes. Both the silver plate and the 14k gold plating are shiny and bright, giving these simple pieces more presence. They would work really well with both a sundress or a boss lady blazer, making them both very versatile pieces.

I like these a lot. They make charming little sounds as I wear them and because they are both silver and gold, I can wear them with anything!

This adjustable cuff fit well, but wasn't super comfortable because it was so wide.

Annual Subscriber Item: Cassis Necklace - Retail Value $52.00

Finally, we have a coordinating necklace that is a bonus gift to annual subscribers. I actually think it is great that this sub rewards annual members rather than just gifting cool stuff only to new members. It is a multi-layer piece that has a great length and makes layering super easy since it is all built into the same clasp.

I love the length!

Verdict: JourneeBox felt really nicely themed and curated this season. I really liked the emphasis on French-inspired items and the mix of wearable items and kitchen-y goods. I am not 100% sure how I feel about the tunic as a top, but I like it enough to stash for a beach coverup or a sleep shirt since it is so soft! I also really liked the necklace and earrings, and I already plan on gifting the cuff to a friend who will adore it. The soap, knives, and towel will all get a ton of use in my kitchen, and I can't wait to try the herbs on some chicken this weekend. This continues to be a subscription I really look forward to because the items are high-quality and thoughtful and everything is beautifully packaged. This is also one of those subscriptions that always has super giftable items, making it a nice "treat-yourself" opportunity or gift giving purchase.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, as of publication, you can choose the Summer Box! You can also choose the Spring Box, if you feel inclined.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $54.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $7.86.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This box is one of my favorite subscriptions ever – and I’ve been in the sub box “scene” since 2013 LOL! I became an annual subscriber when it was first offered based on my love of the Kevia brand, which I had discovered in a previous box. I’ve purchased several pieces of jewelry from their site (before this box came out) and the quality is very good – everything still looks brand new – it definitely wears well. I also inadvertently sized up on the tunic but will still wear it – it’s so soft and comfortable! The soap smells wonderful and I was planning to save it to savor the fragrance, but decided to use it and LOVE the formula. As with any box, whatever I don’t need at the moment usually makes a great gift for someone else.

I loved the Summer Journee box! The earrings were my favorite item. The soap smells heavenly. Anxiously awaiting Fall Spoilers.

I noticed people are listing the items under sugarbash instead of journee. Probably cause the last sugarbash box sent was the first Journee box.

I don’t see a coupon and also this box isn’t in the directory or swap listings?

Laura

No, it’s not. I have something to list from a previous box but it’s not listed as an option. Liz, can you please add this to the Swaps list of boxes? Thanks!

I am so happy that I subscribed to JourneeBox. Kevia and her team really have an eye for detail.
– The Cassis jewelry set is very flattering, especially the necklace: the shorter pendant sits right at my collarbone, and the longer one hits that sweet spot which accentuates the breast line without getting lost. I like that you get a jewelry bag.
– The tunic has a wonderful drape and fits my hips without overwhelming my upper body.
– I love to entertain and the cheese knives are a welcome addition to my serving utensils. The simple, traditional style with bamboo handles complements any cheeseboard. The included storage bag is practical and has a cute print to identify the contents.
– The tea towel has a really smooth hand (seems to be a long-staple, tightly woven cotton) and the print is lovely.
– I keep opening the Herbes de Provence bottle and inhaling. I’m thinking of making a sachet with the herbs in addition to trying the included recipe. And I love the thoughtfulness of the ‘linen’ label.
– The soap was the only miss for me as I’m sensitive to strong scents. However, it will be going to a friend who will enjoy it.
– The box itself can be reused as a keepsake box or for gifting – another thoughtful detail.
I highly recommend!

Hi Christina,

Thank you so much for your appreciation! We noted your feedback on the use of perfume and will incorporate that in our sourcing process.

That tunic is just so bad. No words. I don’t think sizing down or belting it would help.

Wow! Interesting how people’s opinions are so diverse! I loved the tunic so much but didn’t have funds for box so I swapped for it! And it’s perfect, I love the color, fit and style! Will be looking at this box when my fff sub finishes.

Agreed. I wasn’t too thrilled when I saw that tunic as a spoiler but really like it irl and it’s perfect for a swimsuit cover up!

Apricot

Funny, I think the tunic is lovely but Meagan does definitely need the smaller size.

I almost subscribed because I liked the tunic so much and I loved the necklace but I couldn’t commit to an annual subscription at this time. You can only get the necklace as an annual and cuffs never seem to fit my wrists right so I passed.

I can say the quality was fantastic. Just not my style really!

From photos alone, I did not like the jewelry, but in real life, I was very impressed! It looked much better on than I thought it would, and it was very nice quality! I actually wore the tunic as a cover up during a Lake Michigan trip last week. The herbs de Provence, serving set and tea towel, I put together with a nice bottle of wine for part of a girlfriends’ Birthday gift. The soap is AMAZING and currently next to my bathroom sink. It smells wonderful! Great box!

Mary

I loved this box even though a couple of the items were a miss for me. I couldn’t make the cuff work for my wrist, and my tunic was also a bit too big. I got my normal size, but these do run large so it feels a bit shapeless on me and dips a bit too low in the front for my liking. However, I haven’t tried cinching it with a belt to see how that looks and if that doesn’t work, I think it’ll be a great beach cover-up.

Overall, though, I found this box to be a delight to open and a great value.

The tunic is a bit large on you, but the color is pretty & I think using it as a beach cover-up is a workable solution. The earrings are cute too. I’d never heard of this box before, it looks promising.

@Mary, I don’t know why my comment appears as a reply to yours. It was supposed to be a regular post to Megan’s review, although funnily enough what I said applies to your comments too. 😊

Emilia

I would never wear a tunic, cheap overpriced jewelry, my ears are not pierced, the soap looks too rustic for my taste, I don’t need cheese utensils. The towel is beautiful and herbs are always useful. The box itself is stunning.

For $25 I’d get this box and give away most of it as gifts.

The actual box itself is a wonderful keepsake box. It’s such a pretty color with the dragonfly and ribbon tie. My husband writes wonderful notes inside each card he gives me for birthdays and holidays and I’ve kept them all over the years. The beautiful blue Journee box is perfect to keep them in.

I keep mine too. Excellent for gift giving or just for stashing extra samples. Love the bold blue!

I totally agree about the actual box itself being pretty fabulous. I was especially appreciative that JourneeBox printed their box name on the inside, instead of the outside (like those black OuiPlease boxes which are great, but would be even better without the logo right on the front). The JourneeBox is so much more usable.

I think it speaks volumes about the company that they did this. In my eyes they valued customer value (and customer appreciation) ahead of self promotion. Two big thumbs up for that!

I actually ADORED this whole box. Love the cuff, love the tunic, love the tea towel, love the soap and herbs (this box smelled DELICIOUS when I opened it). Loved it all!

I’m excited for the next one. I think they said the theme is India, but I’m not sure I’m remembering that correctly. This French box will be hard to top though ❤️

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the appreciation! Yes we thought including the brand name inside the box would entice people wanting to reuse it. The next box is about Jaipur India and we really hope to dazzle with that box as well.
