Ipsy Skincare Mystery Bag July 2019 Review

Ipsy Mystery Skincare glam bag

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items, and the same was true for this mystery bag.

Ipsy Mystery Skincare mask

Huangjisoo Red Fruits Brightening Mask - Retail Value $6 (on sale for $3)

Huangjisoo Broccoli Plumping Mask - Retail Value $6 (on sale for $3)

I had been wanting to try these masks- s0 much so that I chose them as an add-on for my Glam Bag Plus! No complaints about getting them in this mystery bag, though- both masks have great ingredients lists and they fit my face well. My skin was definitely more hydrated and dewy after the broccoli mask, and my skin looked a bit brighter after the red fruits one.

Ipsy Mystery Skincare belif 1 Ipsy Mystery Skincare belif 2

belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb, 0.33 oz - Estimated Value $8.80 (Buy the 0.85 oz version for $22)

This is a lightweight moisturizer made with uncommon herbs like lady’s mantle and oat husk, but it is also made with alcohol denat that can actually dry out your skin over time or cause sensitivity. This may be a decent moisturizer for those with oily skin, but my dry, sensitive skin will pass.

Ipsy Mystery Skincare neogen 1 Ipsy Mystery Skincare neogen 2

Neogen Dermalogy Canadian Clay Pore Cleanser, 0.35 oz - Estimated Value $2.25 (Buy the full-size version for $27)

This clay cleanser is a bit unique in that it foams up as you wash your face, and it's made with colloidal clay, carbonated water, and Centella. I thought this would be more drying since it has kaolin in it, but this felt great on my skin after a sweaty workout.

Ipsy Mystery Skincare lab for you

Lab For You Multi-Ex Repair Cream, 0.33 oz - Estimated Value $4.80 (Buy the full-size 3.3 fl oz for $48)

This moisturizer is designed to help repair and strengthen your skin's moisture barrier, and it has ingredients like witch hazel, coconut oil, Centella, and green tea. If you are prone to clogged pores I would stay away from this, as coconut oil is comedogenic, but it was very nourishing and would be a great nighttime moisturizer if you're not sensitive to coconut oil like I am.

Ipsy Mystery Skincare preventative measures

Preventative Measures After Hours Lip Balm - Retail Value $7

This lip balm is made with petroleum, paraffin, mineral oil, cocoa butter, and aloe. As expected, this is deeply nourishing, and it has a refreshing light mint flavor.

Verdict: I thought this was a fun mix of products for a low-cost mystery bag- it included brands sold at Sephora, some K-Beauty, and a full-size lip balm. I calculated a total value of $34.85, which is great for the $12 price tag.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this mystery bag is sold out.

Good to Know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different assortment of items than me.

Value Breakdown: At $12 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Huangjisoo Red Fruits: $2.06
  • Huangjisoo Broccoli: $2.06
  • belif: $3.03
  • Neogen: $0.77
  • Lab for You: $1.65
  • Preventative Measures: $2.41

Alternatively, each of the 5 items (not including the makeup bag) has an average cost of $2.00.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

The Aqua Bomb is the only item I got in mine that you got in yours. I can’t remember the other 4 off the top of my head, but I love that this is a true mystery box.

I really like the lab for you cream, but was happy with what I did get.

Aw, you got the bag I wanted. I ended up keeping only 1 thing from my bag.

Still have the Huangjisoo masks, TonyMoly painting pack, & Feel Pumkin Walnut cleanser up for swap.

It’s “denatured alcohol”, not “alcohol denat”, and I agree with you about the two sheet masks – they were awesome! The other four items I received were different, but overall I felt that it was a great value, especially with the summery, cute bag. Thanks for the review!

Actually it IS ‘alcohol denat’ listed in the ingredients NOT ‘denatured alcohol.’ It’s the same darn thing and not good for our skin. Personally, I think some companies use alcohol denat instead of denatured alcohol in an attempt to hide it and not have it stand out so much when we read the ingredients.
That Belif aqua bomb was terribly drying on my skin. I used it the first time without reading the ingredients until my skin became very tight and dry after applying it. I throw it out now if it comes in a sub box. There’s no way I’ll wear it all day long or all night long as a mask.

“it’s the same thing”, just an abbreviation.
