GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually a deluxe size or full-size, and the value is usually good too.

GlossyBox August 2019 Review

Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included.

Also included were two promo cards for Naked Wines. Curious about this wine club? I have all the deets for you!

Universal Beauty True Glow Skin Illuminating Stick, 4.5 g - Full Size! Retail Value $20.00

From the glittery box this month, and from this first item, it looks like we are in for some serious sparkle! This stick highlighter is a cool, light shade that adds shimmer without warmth. While some of the shimmer particles are larger than I personally prefer, this stick is totally perfect for adding a little glow to your look, with or without a full face of makeup. The sheer wash of shimmer also looks gorgeous as a browbone highlighter.

Super soft and great for a natural shimmer.

Maria Nila True Soft Hair Masque, 8.5 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $30.00

When I first picked up this month's box I was amazed at how heavy it was. This is due to this massive tub of hair mask! My first impression was that it smells amazing: clean and super feminine! I don't mask often because I feel like most either weigh down my hair or change its texture. Sometimes they just leave my strands feeling waxy or coated in a shiny film. I am happy to say that I liked this one very much! The formula itself is heavier but didn't weigh down my strands. I used it on my ends, left it on for about 5 mins while I shaved, and rinsed it out. I air dry my hair and it felt very soft but not overly coated in any sort of product residue and my wavy, wild, texture was left intact. The pretty scent clung to my hair softly and complemented my normal perfume fragrance.

Edie Parker x Lauren B. Beauty Nail Polish in "Bright Lights", 4.8 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $20.00

Oh, we just jumped from shimmer to full-blown glitter with this product! This is exactly the sort of polish I would expect to see in a birthday celebration box. Full to bursting with chunky silver and gold glitter, this certainly makes for a festive topcoat! I had no problem getting tons of glitter onto each of my nails, a benefit for someone used to fishing around in a bottle for way too long with other glitter polishes. Because the glitter is so chunky, it def has a texture when it dries, but I still think it is really fun. This polish is also 7-free and vegan.

I already had a burnt orange gel polish on, so I was unable to take a solo swatch. I feel like this formula lends itself to being a topper more than a solo polish anyways, though maybe not on this orange!

JAFRA Royal Lip Liner in "Victoria", 0.27 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $14.00

I was pretty happy to see this bold red liner, as most in my collection are nude. I don't wear liner often, but I have noticed that bold reds really benefit from a drawn boundary, especially if they are satin or gloss. This bold, true red is creamy, highly pigmented, and worked really great with my current fave red lip.

This will be perfect for those bold, fall reds!

Emma Hardie Moringa Light Cleansing Gel, 15 ml - Estimated Value $6.45 (Buy a full-size 100 ml for $43.00)

Finally, our last item is from a brand I really like. It is actually the one that my mom tends to request the most from my stash. It is easy to understand why: the formulas are always so skin-loving and moisturizing, while still being very clarifying. They also smell incredible!

Verdict: GlossyBox has a value of $90.45, which is great for this $21 box. I loved the celebratory birthday theme, complete with loads of sparkle. I enjoyed everything this month, but I am especially excited about the hair mask and nail polish. It was really refreshing that 4 out of 5 items were full-size too. It always feels nice when one item alone covers the box cost!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! If you sign up in the month of August, this should be your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $21.00 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • UB Cosmetics Highlighter Stick $4.64
  • Maria Nila Hair Mask $6.97
  • Lauren B. Beauty Polish $4.64
  • JAFRA Lipliner $3.25
  • Emma Hardie Wash $1.50

Alternatively, each item in this box has an average cost of $4.20.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I’m really bummed. I’m only keeping 2 of the 5 items.

2 of my very favorite items to get are nail polish and lipsticks. I used to practically live for polish and lippies. The problem is that I can get unique, outstanding nail polishes from indie sellers. The ones I get in sub boxes, unfortunately, always turn out to be a disappointment. I don’t wear cremes. I was excited about a glittery polish, but I already have so many glitter polishes and toppers that I just don’t really need this, sadly.

As far as lippies, again, there are so many amazing new formulas, toppers, etc at Ulta that i just can’t get too excited about most of the ones i get in boxes anymore. Maybe I need to cut back on my sub boxes.

i got box variation 4, with the Lagerfeld liner in the shade rosewood. would have preferred the eye serum but overall not a bad box, just not as exciting as i was hoping their birthday box would be!

I was surprised at how much I liked it. It just seems super festive and very FUN, which I need more of in my polish stash for sure.

I received this exact variation except, happily ,my lip liner was a medium dark pink plum shade that is absolutely perfect for me and I’m thrilled with it. I also want to give a shout out to that over the top sparkly nail polish ,which as it turns out , I love! I don’t typically use sparkly nail polish, or if I do it’s more of a subdued sheen than a sparkle, but I tried two coats of this polish on my toes and oh my gosh, it’s wonderful! Would I wear it on my nails Monday through Friday to work? No ,but am I going to love having it on my toes this weekend at a pool party and every beach event I can go to the next month? Heck yes !I love it ! It’s like wearing silver and gold lame fabric on my toes. Too fun! I encourage everyone to try it and get that summer sparkly fun vibe!

Hi Megan, great review as always! Does the hair mask contain sulfate? I am trying to avoid sulfate in my hair products as I get color treated and just tried Keratin treatment for the first time. I was told to avoid it. Thank you!

Megan K.

Thank you Kay! The tub does say sulphate-free!

Kay

Ohhhhh, thank you! Purchased with the coupon code MSA provided recently still worked, but for some reason the price only got reduced to $16 by taking off $5, not the promised $15. But cool with me. Hope the variation is a good match for me.

Jen

I never like anything in GlossyBox, but I really want a couple of the adorable boxes. Too bad you can’t get an empty box sub with them. 🙁

I just got a glossybox box in a swap. Look fantastic boxes are pretty nice too, really nice and thick. These british beauty box companies sure do know how to make a nice box 🙂

HA! Agreed. I still use some of the boxes for my stash. I subscribed for a year and dreaded getting the box even though it was already paid for. Now I watch the reviews just to kinda laugh at how unappealing the contents are.

Amethyst

Haters gonna hate. Megan just did a review of how *good* the items are. Most people are very happy about the hair mask at least.

TK

I agree! The boxes are the best! Too bad I was only using one or two items in the box.

Look fantastic has super beautiful well made boxes too which I think is a really amazing steal considering it’s free shipping from UK plus they give you a full mini Elle magazine too. I really wonder would the hell they make any money?

Missymalay

I think they have the most beautiful packaging!!! I wish they sold them without anything written on them, I’d use them for gift boxes. I think I may get this box for the box itself, and the skin stick. My daughter could have the rest.

Amy

I bet you can find them on Ebay!
