Gentleman's Box August 2019 “Rocket Man" Review

It looks like our box got a new feature and instead of a simple box, we now have this extra tab at the top to protect our goodies inside, much like the boxes that they send their quarterly Premium subscription in. It definitely feels fancier and is fitting for our "royal" honoree this month!

Included in our box was an issue of the Gentleman's Post which is basically a booklet that describes the theme for the month and highlights the items included in our box. This month's box is in honor of their favorite Rocket Man, Sir Elton John.

Tom's Stylist Tie - Listed Value $20

This tie is a nice one! Our booklet mentions that purple is a great color to make you stand out during wedding season and that it goes well with both navy or gray suits and I have to agree that this color would be perfect for both! I like the diagonal pinstripes and my husband was a fan, too. This tie is 100% cotton and it did have a little string loop on the underside of the tie that is making the thread look a bit wonky here, but it's definitely not noticeable when it is on. This tie looks really nice on which you can see a little further in the review!

Red Stag & Hind Silk Pocket Square - Listed Value $39

This pocket square is a bit more of a vibrant purple than our tie, but I still think they work well together. This is 100% silk and seems to be nicely made! I love that Cinderella blue color edge which you could easily hide if you wanted to stick with just one color/pattern in your pocket. My husband likes this one and I think it looks great with a navy jacket.

Oak & Stone Lapel Pin - Listed Value $15.00

In our booklet, this is listed as a lapel pin and the one pictured is more of a traditional stem style, but what we received is a badge style with a button back and could easily double as a tie pin. We reached out to Gentleman's Box and it looks like the original lapel pin was swapped out for this one last minute due to a quality issue. All subscribers should receive the button back pin as well. Whether you use it as a lapel or tie pin, it still makes a fun and unique item fitting of our theme! I don't see my husband having occasion to use this, but I think it will be easy to find someone who will appreciate it to gift this to.

Here my husband has the tie, pocket square, and pin (as a lapel pin) on with his navy suit jacket. I actually really love the combination of all three! While the purples are different they still seem to complement each other and the glasses look cute and are pretty subtle. Too bad we don't have any optometrist friends!

King x Portland Socks - Listed Value $15.00

I think these socks are super cute, but my husband wasn't really a fan of them. He didn't like that they were a different shade than the tie and didn't match that well. I do think the lavender color feels slightly feminine and if I saw these in a store, I would probably think they were for women. If only they weren't sized for men's large feet, I would be stealing these!

While he didn't love the look of them, he did think they were pretty good quality!

Ace of Spades Headphones - Listed Value $35.00

The last item in our box this month was this set of headphones. I think they are another fitting item for our honoree and something useful. In the days where most headphones are wireless or noise-canceling, these can feel a bit basic since they are just regular auxiliary cord earbuds, but that little hint of purple on the ends of the buds makes them a bit special in this particular box! They work well and fit comfortably in both mine and my husband's ears.

They also included two sets of larger silicone earbuds. You can see the smaller ones in the front is the original size they came with.

The bottom two-thirds of the cord are covered in what looks like braided nylon for protection and it leads up to one of those classic little tabs you can slide to keep your headphone cords close together. It also features a small bar to control the volume and always play or pause. While the pause and play feature worked well for me, I couldn't get the volume buttons to work. I only tried these on my phone though, so maybe it has something to do with that? I probably wouldn't go out and purchase these, but as part of a curated box, I think they are just fine!

Verdict: This month's Gentleman’s Box had a great theme that I thought was well-curated; although, if you aren't a fan of purple, this box might not be for you! I thought every item was fitting of our honoree, such as the unique lapel (tie?) pin and the headphones which made for a fun box. My husband was pleased with the style and quality this month and the total listed value of our box came to $124 which is awesome for a $29 box!

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
