The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a monthly subscription that offers bath and body products centered on a new theme each month. Each month FCS will create new products to fit that theme, and then will offer up the extended collection for sale later in the month.

Green Is the New Black Whipped Cream

The Aloe Me Whipped Cream is probably my favorite product that Fortune Cookie Soap makes, so I will never be mad about getting more lotion from this brand. This is scented with notes of orange, apple, pear, and pineapples with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. It has a fruity autumn scent that I enjoy, and provides great moisture to my skin without leaving it greasy.

Swankified Walnut Scrub

I have tried the FCS Walnut Scrub formula before, and I am a fan. It has a good grit without being too abrasive, and following this scrub with the included whipped cream is a real treat for my skin. It smells like banana bread, too!

The Shiz Perfume Oil

This box is big on sending perfume oils, so it is no surprise that this box included one. The scent is a blend of maple leaves, balsam wood, and sweet clove, and I enjoy the earthy notes of this compared to the usual sweet, fruity blends.

Flying Monkey Scent Diffuser

I don't actually know how this scent diffuser works- I think the stopper inside is supposed to come out, but even with a lot of prying I cannot for the life of me get it out unless I want to destroy the plastic stopper completely. Do I want to do that? Is it supposed to be that difficult? I was able to smell a few drops in my fight to open this (a fight I lost), and I did enjoy the notes of fresh banana, watermelon, peach, and jasmine. This would be perfect to hang on the rearview mirror of my truck if I could actually figure out how it works.

There's No Place Like Home Fortune Cookie Soap

Each seasonal box includes an actual fortune cookie soap, and this one has notes of apple peels, cinnamon, allspice, and clove. This is a cozy autumnal scent, and it bums me out that it'll be at least another six weeks before Baton Rouge gets any type of weather that could even resemble fall.

BFF's OCD Hand Sanitizer

This handy dandy hand sanitizer is scented with sweet blueberries, baked pumpkin, and warm spiced cake. I am always happy to receive this- I keep them in various purses that I use frequently, and that way I always have access to clean hands when I am out and about.

The Verdict: This month's Fortune Cookie Soap box has me ready for fall, and I'm not mad about it (though I *do* wish the grocery stores would wait a bit longer before putting out the Halloween Candy). I appreciated the pairing of the walnut scrub and whipped cream in this month's box, and I think I will love the scent diffuser once I actually figure it out. This witch theme was cute, and I am excited for September.

This was a nice box with such a fall presence in the scents. I have a cinnamon skin allergy so I couldn’t use the whipped cream or the soap but my husband was happy to enjoy both himself. The car diffuser is a wonderful thing, for sure.

Yay I’m so glad I stopped my subscription, no fomo. Way too many perfume oils. They must be cheap to make and I know they are light to ship yet considered by FCS to be full size.

The diffuser directions are below. 🙂 You can also replace the scent with a perfume oil – which you may find helpful since you seem to have an overabundance of them.

Step 1: unscrew wood lid
Step 2: remove plastic plug and discard
Step 3: screw wood lid back on
Step 4: turn bottle over and allow fragrance to soak into the wood lid.
Step 5: Enjoy anywhere in your home, car, closet, or office
Anytime you want the smell to be stronger, turn it over and shake it.

I have found that stopped issue with a lot of different brands of reed diffusers! As others have said, it takes some creative prying.

That said, in many states it is actually illegal to hang anything from the rear view mirror of your car. This is a pretty bulky item, and would probably be noticed if you were pulled over, so it may be worth checking the laws where you live. I’ve lived in states where it is illegal and plenty of people still do it, but it’s worth mentioning anyway.

You ca use the edge of a butter knife or a similar thin, hard edge to get under the lip of the stopper to help work it out. Yes it will be difficult but it’s necessary so it doesn’t leak in transit.
And then, as Tiffany mentioned in the previous comment, once the stopper is out you screw the wooden lid back on and tip it upside down for a few seconds. The more you let the wood saturate the stronger/longer lasting the scent. You tip it again to make it stronger again whenever it starts to dry too much.
I put mine in a closet to combat the shoes. Like Tiffany you can place or hang it in a room. Several people are using it as a car freshener, hanging it off the mirror or vent.
FCS is also selling empty diffusers, you can use their other perfume oils in them, though since the PO’s are cut with a carrier oil to make them skin-safe they may not be quite as strong as the pure scent oil that comes in FCS’s already filled diffusers (those are not skin-safe / you shouldn’t wear it as perfume). Though even if they may be a bit weaker they will still work. & it’s a way to work through some PO’s you may like but have too many to wear.

You can go to their group page for step by step directions. You do completely remove stopper. Put wooden cap back on. Turn upside down to let oil get in cap. Then hang in car, closet or set on shelf (I have mine in my bathroom) wherever you want. It’s like the reed diffusers, but it uses the wooden cap instead of wood reeds. If you want a stronger scent, just turn upside down for a few seconds. It works great!

I had the same trouble with the diffuser. Eventually, I removed the stopper completely, screwed the wooden cap back on, and turned the bottle upside down to saturate the wooden cap a little, and turned it right-side up again. I then tied the strings together and hung it on the pantry door knob in the kitchen. Not sure if that’s how its supposed to work, but it made the kitchen smell really good 🙂
