Ecocentric Mom July 2019 Review

Each box includes a card with a link to this page where we can filter by age to see the products from our box. This is great to check out if you are considering this subscription as you can see what items you might receive in another age group.

A Quick Note: A reader (thanks, Anna) pointed out last month that the box is under new ownership according to an email she received. I don't receive subscriber emails since this box is sent to us for review purposes, but I do think the boxes have had a different vibe lately and they have been sending fewer items (only four as opposed to the previous 5 to 6 items).

StyleFox Beauty Skin Detox Super Greens Mask - Retail Value $25.00

This next mask may look small, but this little (biodegradable!) packet actually holds enough powder to make 20 masks since they eliminated the liquid (and preservatives) from their packaging. This detox mask is supposed to leave your skin feeling clearer, softer and look more refined. It is vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, contains no parabens and is made from all-natural, antioxidant-rich and nutrient-dense ingredients and no fillers. Some key ingredients include kaolin clay to clarify pores and draw out impurities, bentonite clay to clean pores and refine skin, hemp seed which is anti-inflammatory and promotes healing and redness, and green superfoods such as spirulina, chlorella, and alfalfa leaf which are rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants and contain carotenoids and minerals that help detox the skin. It also contains fruit enzymes such as lemon and pumpkin which are helpful for removing dead skin cells, lightening dark spots and giving you a brighter complexion. This sounds like a lot, but it's only a few of the ingredients that are included. I love that every ingredient has a purpose!

This was my first time using a powder mask that I had to mix myself and they recommend a 1/2 teaspoon or 1 teaspoon and equal parts water in your hand or a cup. I used the 1 teaspoon option and mixed it in my hand and it was quite messy, but rubbing my hands together allowed me to apply it to my face easily. It also left me looking like the Wicked Witch of the West and it tightened a bit as it dried. It left my face feeling dry after rinsing, but my skin looked so smooth and clean and in some areas, it really looked like it was pulling impurities to the surface and hopefully detoxifying my skin! I was pretty impressed with this mask and despite the mess it makes, I am pretty happy that I have at least 18 more masks to get out of this little packet!

Gypsy Soul Organics Sweet Almond + Lavender Flower Face Serum, 10 ml - Retail Value $30.00

This face serum is made with sweet almond oil, lavender flower, rosehip seed oil, castor oil, frankincense resin, sweet orange peel, and vitamin E. I am not sure if it is because of the thickness of this serum or if my rollerball was a dud, but I had a really hard time getting anything out of this bottle, which is kind of disappointing for a $30 serum. The rollerball is plastic and once I got it to roll, I was able to use it in upward motions to apply it to my face. Then I patted it in with my fingertips. While it was really difficult to get it out of the rollerball bottle, I do think it was nice how the rollerball acted almost like my facial rollers in the way it applied. This oil sat on top of my skin for a while and it didn't feel greasy or sticky, but just thick and sort of heavy which was fine for the evening, but I don't see myself using this under my makeup in the mornings since it takes so long to absorb. The scent was really light and did make my skin feel soft and hydrated so I will be using this at night and hoping it leaves my skin looking glowy and not so tired!

Moroccan Magic Lip Balm in Coconut Almond - Estimated Value $4 (Buy a 3 pack for $12.00)

This item was just kind of "meh" for me. I had previously purchased this product on my own due to the promise of the argan oil leaving your dry, chapped lips hydrated, but unfortunately, I can't handle this almond, coconut scent. It doesn't smell or taste bad and I was happy with the results, but the almond oil irritates my throat for some reason, which is strange because I don't have any known allergies. While this was a miss for me, it's something I can easily pass to one of my sisters, but it's also something I could easily find at any local drug store, so it just didn't feel like a very special inclusion, especially when there are only four total items.

GoSili Silicone Bowl with Lid - Retail Value $11.95

This bowl was the only real thing that was geared towards baby this month. I like the idea of this bowl and I think it is pretty unique. The bowl actually has a stainless steel ring and it is coated with silicone (BPA and DEHP-free, hypoallergenic silicone to be exact) and the lid which also acts as a plate can be pressed down in the center to create an airtight seal. The entire thing is dishwasher, freezer, and microwave safe and it looks to be pretty kid-proof as well which is great for when it ends up falling (or getting thrown) off the high chair.

The lid has a nice, wide, flat ring on the bottom that creates the airtight seal, but also creates an even surface so that it can be used as a plate. It is the perfect size for baby or toddler portions.

The bowl holds 8 ounces and like the plate, is a great size for baby or toddler food. It seems very durable and is pretty thick making it nice and sturdy so that it doesn't tip too easily. I use Pyrex glass bowls a lot because they offer the same idea - food storage that is microwave and dishwasher safe, but this is much more kid-friendly and eliminates the need for extra serving dishes!

Verdict: I was surprised to see such a light box from Ecocentric Mom for the second month in a row, especially since this is the second month after their price increase (of $6.00). That being said, the items did feel higher-end this month and the only real miss for me was the Moroccan Magic lip balm. The mask is definitely my favorite item since it was so unique and I really feel like it made a difference in my skin. The serum is nice, but I need to use it long term to determine if it is effective and the bowl is a very practical item that I will definitely use. The total retail value comes to about $70.95 which is pretty great for a $38.99 + free shipping box. If their new model is to include fewer items with higher retail values, I am on board, but I think our next box will definitely give us a better idea of the direction this box is heading!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
