Decocrated Summer 2019 Review

envelope with booklet and info sheets

The first item I opened was an envelope containing this quarter's "art print" and a booklet filled with item info, decorating tips, and season style forecasting.

Let's open all those boxes, shall we?

Art Print

From researching this sub, it looks like each month comes with a small postcard-sized art print that is reversible. I am pretty sure there was a frame in the spring crate that these are meant for, which kind of makes them less immediately useful to me since this was my first crate. It is still a cute idea even if I would have to get a frame to use it.

Flamingo Apron

This apron matches the art print perfectly. Both are a little too cute for me, honestly. I don't tend to go all out for each season and instead prefer the well-loved linen apron I have had for years. I could still see this being very presh for summer BBQs or anyone who loves cute and colorful aprons.

Set of 4 Cloth Napkins

We don't use cloth napkins in my house but even if we did I am not sure about this peachy pink color. It seems super specific! They are of nice quality though, and I might use one for wrapping up fresh rolls or bread, instead of all of them.

Tic-Tac-Toe Set in Drawstring Bag

At this point, I am wondering where the decor part of this box starts to kick in. I still have tons of boxes, so I am hopeful! This little kit would be a great addition to summer picnics or gatherings. The pieces are little wooden discs that flip for X and O. The pouch itself provides the familiar game grid.

Metal Hello Hanging Sign with Pegs

Ok, here we go. This is the sort of thing I expected from this sub! I actually really like this sign. I am always looking for clever and tasteful ways to add pops of color in my home, and this is a perfect piece for our entryway, especially since we can hang the dog leases on the pegs. It measures about 17 inches long, so it is sizeable without being massive. It has two built-in circles to catch on nails for a secure fit.

Every Summer Has a Story Sign

Things like this aren't really my style, but I know they are pretty popular. This sign is lightweight and square-shaped. Because the sides are thicker, you could hang it or use it on a shelf or desk. I did like the color scheme, cute polka dot sides, and leaves that surrounded the text. It measures about 7.75 by 7.75 inches.

Rise and Grind Sign

Next up is another sign with two sides. Again, art signs are not my personal style, but this might be cute in a home office. It is hung on a thin rope which gives it a little rustic touch. It measures 11.5 x 7.5 inches.

Antique Style Wooden Caddy

This is more of my style for sure. I love random vessels like this I can keep around the house to collect silverware, plants, letters, anything really! The slightly weathered feel of the wood will coordinate really well with my home decor and I think the handle is more than charming. It measures about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 4 inches tall (not including the handle).

Metal Lantern

This was another win. Though the inside sticker suggests avoiding burning candles inside, I have a similar piece that I like to set candles down into which works great. I only put candles that are already in glass inside things like this. I also put a clear glass vase inside and then filled it with flowers for a very pretty and summery tablescape. The lantern is pretty big, measuring 7 inches tall without the handle.

Verdict: I am not sure how I feel about this subscription. Admittedly, I am -really- particular about my home decor items. I might just not be the audience for this box? The price felt steep for what was inside, especially since most of the items were not what I would consider versatile in terms of styling. The signs felt a little like dorm decor to me, and I didn't like the salmon napkins, apron, or tic-tac-toe game. The wooden caddy and lantern were both perfect for me though, and I would hope to see more things like that in next month's box. I also really loved the yellow 'hello' sign. I hope that the overall style in the fall box lends itself more to items that can be used across many different decor styles and palettes, instead of items that are so incredibly seasonal and specific.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the fall box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $79.99 bringing the average cost per each of the 8 items to $10.00. I did not include the art postcard in this breakdown.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Ehhhh, not really my style, i dont like sayings everywhere. You could find stuff like this all day every day at the goodwill, yard sales, etc.

I’ve been with decocrated now for about a year as I purchased the annual subscription a year ago.

My annual subscription renewed a few weeks ago and I am excited for another year of decocrated! Everytime I open that box I get so excited to redecorate my home and my family/friends always have something new to see every season.

For that price?! Yikes. But the idea is brilliant, just hopefully they can execute better in the future. May be even tailor to different tastes once they’ve been put a while?

I saw full spoilers for fall and ordered! I choose this box over third and main’s fall box because of the style and price. I also liked the fall items are reversable. Halloweenish than Thanksgivingish. Hope to see your thoughts on the next one and Thanks for reviewing💜

Definitely not my taste at all. Very overpriced. Not sure exactly who they are marketing this box to. People who have too much money and nothing else to buy?

I saw the name and hoped this would be filled with art-deco inspired pieces. Clearly I’m not their target audience 😂

A lot of these items remind me of the seasonal stuff you’d find in the Target dollar spot where everything is $1, $3, or $5. What’s with these boxes inflating the retail amounts for everything lately?

I don’t like anything with sayings/phrases on it. I do like the lantern and wooden holder, but that alone is not worth the price. I am very happy to finally see this reviewed though and will definitely keep my eyes on this sub.

Having just moved into a new house, this box looks really tempting!

Would picking things out at say a TJ Maxx be perhaps a better alternative? The nearest one to me is over an hour away so a subscription like this definitely catches my attention!

This might def be worth a try Anna! I am blessed (and my wallet is cursed) to easy access for T J Maxx and Marshalls.

The fall box is going to be way better. This one was pretty weak.

I am thinking the fall will be more of my style. I tend to lean a little more industrial/rustic so the summer stuff was just not my bag. I am really curious for the next one!
