Bombay & Cedar is a luxury lifestyle subscription box for women that focuses on essential oils, diffusers, skincare, books, snacks, and other products. I always get excited about this box because it usually has such a crazy variety of things and they are always thoughtfully curated.

This review is of the Premium box for $49.95/month.

Bombay & Cedar "Elevate" Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is "Elevate."

Lime Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

Peppermint Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

I love a blend of lime and mint because it kind of reminds me of an aromatherapy mojito! The peppermint is really strong so if you want to create this effect, use a lot less of it than the lime.

Both of these oils are also lovely on their own, or both mixed with lavender if you want a floral twist.

Stretch Island Strawberry Fruit Leather - Listed Value $0.79 (Buy 8 for $3.66)

I really enjoy fruit leathers. This one was delicious and a perfect afternoon snack, enjoyed at my desk as I explored the rest of this box. It was sweet enough to totally kick a midday sugar craving.

EvioSkin Rejuvenating Mask, 1.4 fl oz - Retail Value $22.00

There is something about black packaging on skincare that makes me feel very edgy and cool. (I'm not.) This cream is the palest green and contains Cannabis Sativa seed oil. You can use it as a mask or just as a daily moisturizer, which I preferred over the mask route. It smells so clean and just a wee bit salty. My skin loved it when I used it as a midday moisturizer on a makeup-free day and I personally found it light enough to be used as a day cream if you desire!

Compendium "She Creates" Journal – Retail Value $16.50

I don't journal and I am pretty picky when it comes to sketchbooks. Despite all that, I liked this one immediately! It just feels good in your hands and the inside is a chaotic mix of plain pages, painted elements, vellum pages with quotes, lined pages, and dotted grid pages. This eclectic mix really speaks to my disorganized thought process and though there is not a ton of rhyme or reason, I like books like this that combine different page layout because sometimes I want to sketch, sometimes I need lines to make lists or collect thoughts, and I enjoy the inspirational abstract painted pages.

Pearly Wipes Compact - Listed Value $10.95 (Buy a 2 pack for $21.90)

I drink a ton of carbonated water in the summer so I don't worry about staining. Fall and winter are totally different, as at the sign of the first chilly day I instantly transform to a tea-drinking queen. I used to whiten my teeth with a mold that came from my dentist but I found that it got super expensive pretty quickly. These little wipes in their cute compact are something new to try! Simply wipe your teeth with one of the included pads after your beverage of choice to prevent staining. I used one and did notice a tint left on the cloth when I was done and my teeth did feel instantly smoother, which was odd. I plan on keeping these in my purse this fall to prevent yellowing from my beloved Earl Grey brews.

Neuro Mints - Listed Value $3.50 (Buy 6 packs for $21.00, on sale for $18.90)

I love caffeine. Red Bull is generally my go-to, but I have been trying to cut back. These mints have 40 g of caffeine, which is a little less than half of a cup of coffee. I generally prefer more of a kick but the thing I couldn't get past on these mints was the distinct caffeine taste. I couldn't get through the entirety of one of them because of this.

BKIND Bamboo Hairbrush - Retail Value $16.52

This is my type of brush! I have really thick and unruly hair with some texture. I don't brush my hair often because I like it wild, but when I do I need a hefty brush. My hair has quite literally broken brushes before! This one has a bamboo handle, bamboo bristles, and is completely biodegradable.

Spa Room Shower Spray - Retail Value $8.00

FYI: There were some issues with the nozzle on this item for some subscribers. Read more about this here!

I already knew I would love this product because I love the combination of citrus+showers. Have any of you ever eaten an orange in the shower? It is a THING. While my husband thinks I am insane, I love eating oranges in the shower. It's like the straightedge version of a shower beer, IMO. If you haven't tried it, you should. If you think it is insane and gross (WRONG) this is a spray that mimics the scent, a fresh explosion of orange and lemon. Have you ever had a shower orange? Let me know your thoughts!

Magnolia Home "Dwell" Candle - Retail Value $18.00 (Currently on sale for $14.40!)

There were a few different scent options of this candle and I was really excited to get the one I had my fingers crossed over. The "Dwell" scent is a mix of eucalyptus, pepper, lavender, and patchouli. Basically, it is a dream. This candle burns evenly and has a nice scent output. I also liked the little paper bag the glass was wrapped in.

LOF Oversized Scarf - Listed Value $20.00

Finally, our last item is a lightweight oversized scarf. It is color-blocked with a peachy pink shade and a white section embellished with black and metallic gold threading. I tend to wear similar scarves a lot in the fall months and I really like these colors a lot. It is about 36 inches x 80 inches, making it perfect for burrowing.

Verdict: Once again, I adored my Bombay & Cedar box. The only dud would be the mints, a loss I am more than willing to overlook, especially since it was one of the smaller/less valuable items. I adore my new journal and hairbrush. I was on the hunt for these items anyways, so they came at a great time. I also really like the face mask for its soft finish and fresh scent. The candle was lovely and what a surprise to get the scent I was wanting! The scarf and shower mist will both be put to good use. This box is one of my faves because the items always feel really thoughtfully chosen and the quality is consistently good.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order by 8/12 to get the August box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 11 items in the box has an average cost of $5.12.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. Gilt city has a Bombay & Cedar voucher deal it looks like 25% off a 3 month sub ($110.13) and 30% off a 6 month premium sub ($201.39)

I have always admired this box and the Gilt deal was too good to pass up. I just bought a 3 month deal but while it’s not specified in the website when you place the order the “shipping” information says August 21. So that is past the shipping date for the August box I believe. I am OK with that because I wasn’t crazy with the water bottle or earrings so I am perfectly happy with starting my subscription in Sept but maybe others want the August box. Has anyone purchased this voucher from Gilt ? Any idea if the voucher email arrives prior to the date on the website ? Thanks !

I’m undecided, I already have too many boxes and I should let my some of my other subs run out first (purchased a few annuals). I’ll wait for Oct/Nov deals, I’m sure there will be plenty for the holidays. I only want a few things from this box so I’ll probably just try to swap for them.

That Gilt deal does look great. I may be tempted to try the 3 month voucher. Did you get it ? I would think the next box would be August but just not crazy about another water bottle or the earrings..

Your current photo just does not show this untamed hair that you are always telling us about. (I do remember your previous photo, though.) Your hair looks very sleek and styled in this photo.

That photo was right after a salon trip. They blow dried it so I figured it was the perfect one for a profile pic! 😂

I love this July box. With the exception of the journal and mints, everything is perfect. The mints are just too big. The journal will be gifted, as I am not into self-reflection.

I’m glad I subscribed to this box during their Memorial Day sale and I haven’t regretted it yet. While last month was not my favorite (the curation was lovely just not as much me) this month’s box was a huge win for me. I love everything Magnolia Home and that candle smells like a dream 😳 Like I may have to spend $18 when it burns up because it smells that amazing and the packaging is really cute. The oils were really great this month. That Lime was amazing and I love peppermint when I’m feeling stuffy. The journal was quirky and fun but my kids claimed it before I even got a chance to do anything with it. The spray smelled great. The scarf was just beautiful and I could see u being able to wear it in fall or spring (I got taupe). The mask was lovely and I have sensitive skin and usually can only use certain products on it. The fruit leather I ate before my kids saw it and it was like a healthier fruit roll up which made my inner child happy lol I’m sure the neuromints probably work but I drink tea and coffee and am living my best life as a tea/coffee whore so I’m just going to keep on doing what I’m doing lol Here is the surprise hero item to me. The hairbrush! I love it, it’s well-made and will be well used in my home. Really the curation the few months has been well-thought of to me and the products don’t feel like items that were just thrown in to make the value super high like I see in other subs but products that are cute and things that are also functional. I appreciate that cause we all get enough of the not usable sit on the shelf crap enough from these boxes. If you’re on the fence I recommend it. The spoilers for August I am super excited about that I’ve gotten to pick so far 😊

This is such a high-quality box, months after months. If you are reading this, Bombay & Cedar, keep up the great work! I’m unable to subscribe right now, but I definitely will when I can!

I would love to see a review of the mini box to see what it really includes.

Megan K.

Hey Nonya! If you look at the booklet image with the box contents, there is a cutoff where the smaller box items begin and then where the larger box items begin. Hope this helps!

I’m glad you posted the info on where the smaller box ends. I would not of been happy if I purchased the smaller one. Thanks.

Christy

Though I didn’t get this box, I think the curation was really unique and I enjoyed reading about it! I do not have the time to do justice to the journal, but that is the exact type of thing I would have LOVED from high school through college. In early high school, my friends and I used to write each other “marker notes”, which were more elaborate, marker-created pieces of art than actual NOTE. If you didn’t have Crayola Changeables, then you were not living your best life. But now I have a job and a tiny human so alas, no fun journals for Christy. I do keep a paper planner with stickers, though (from Causebox, yo).

I don’t know where you live, but reading about how you’re gonna burrow in the Fall months and about how at the first chilly day you morph into a tea monster (I paraphrased) made me long for colder weather. It has been consistently unbearably hot here in Florida since April, and we don’t usually get our first chilly day until November, maybe later. I hate Florida; I’m moving.

Love the review. You take on oranges and showers cracked me up.

10/10 recommend a shower orange!

This is a great review! I’ve never gotten a Bombay and Cedar box, but I’m super tempted now.

Lovely, lovely box, though I had hoped that subscription boxes were finally moving away from the scarf and hairbrush trends. I have enough scarves from subs to open a scarf boutique – my cats have been enjoying curling up on them when the a/c is on too high for their liking – and I don’t use hairbrushes. Nonetheless, overall I think this is one of the nicer boxes and I’ve been toying with subbing despite the high cost to Canada.
