rooted info card front back of card with care guide for different plants

Our new plant baby came with a card with care info. Since you could pick from three different plants, the card includes care info for each.

It arrived already planted inside a greyish-brown unglazed planter. I really like the rounded shape and the natural finish.

Water and Light NYC ZZ Plant in Planter - Retail Value $49.00

FYI: This plant is about 16 inches tall and the planter is about 5.5 inches tall.

So I have a plant addiction. Last I counted, I had approximately 48 in my home and 6 or 7 in my office. I am nowhere close to being Hilton Carter (yet!) but I do have a pretty powerful green thumb. Picking this plant box was a no brainer, especially since the moon-inspired pot was so pretty. I did notice that the bottom of this planter does not have a drain hole, which I generally frown upon. I plan on adding some rocks to the bottom of the pot when I replant with more dirt so that extra water has somewhere to sit rather than against my plant's roots, which often can cause rot.

I was surprised it came pre-planted as I was totally expecting to have to plant it myself. This was a nice surprise, but I will say that a significant amount of dirt was missing from the pot, probably due to a less than gentle transport journey.

a little messy, there is dirst everywhere

Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is native to Africa and it is one of the easiest houseplants out there. I love their tall green stalks and super glossy green leaves. They have a sculptural element to them that feels really modern in my space.

My plant was in pretty great condition other than one section that was yellowed. I am not sure if this part will perk up or if it will need to be removed from the rest of the plant.

Verdict: This Bespoke Post was an easy choice for me. I love plants! Could you go to your local plant store or Lowes and find a similar plant for a lot less? Oh, definitely. But this one did come with a gorgeous planter and it is from one of those super hip plant shops that I have been quite curious about. Although it didn't arrive in 100% perfect condition, I find this is pretty common when shipping such delicate living things and I know that a little TLC and sunshine will perk it right up!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box has sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $45 + $3.95 shipping, and I received one lush plant in a handsome planter.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Megan I really enjoyed your review. My experience with plants once they turn yellow they are in a dying stage I’d give anything to know if this turns around for you.

Thanks Patty! I agree with you on yellowing for the most part. I have had the rare plant come back, but so far that one “stalk” is on its way out. The rest is looking good though!

I am sorry, great review but this is a ridiculous price point for 1 plant. A plant that would cost you about $10 and a pot that has no drainage that you could find for also around $5. $45 plus shipping is nuts.

ZZ plants of a reasonable size are actually quite expensive! I think this is actually reasonable, even though it may seem high at first glance.

@Megan – great review! I would have picked the same thing.

FYI – Water and Light states this on their listing for this plant (and all the others I looked at):

“If your pot has no drainage holes, we will add clay drainage balls to the bottom of the pot, however avoid overwatering.” How classy – no shards of broken terracotta pots for them!

I also appreciated that they have a “pet friendly” section of their website, as well as provide that type info on each of the plant listings.

I was not familiar w Water and Light, but they do look like a great (albeit not inexpensive) plant purveyor! As a gardening addict, I’m in love with everything on the site, but especially with the 4’ fiddle leaf fig plant and visions of what the mounted stag horn fern will grow to look like!!!

I’d love the names of some of those other “super hip plant shops” you stalk. Oh, and one more thing – what did you name your new friend?

I wish it were easy to drill holes into pots without shattering them. Even with adding materials to the bottom I still feel like root rot is an issue. Maybe I am too paranoid..

The other shops I am way into are Sprout Home (swoon), The Sill, Terrain (of course), and Jungalow. Even if they don’t ship online, at least I can stalk their Instagrams!

New baby doesn’t have a name yet. Suggestions?

I have a similar number of plants in my apartment and office 😉 Glad I’m not the only houseplant addicting! I have to collect one of everything!

Yesss! The addiction is real. I can’t stop at one of each. Which is how I ended up with FOUR Fiddle Leaf Fig trees. Glad I have high ceilings!
