Allure Beauty Box August 2019 Review

Each box comes with a booklet detailing the items included and why the Allure Beauty Editors selected them.

Let's see what products are inside!

Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Masks - Estimated Value $5.00 (Buy 6 pairs for $30.00)

So a few weeks ago I was thrilled over eye mask pads since I wasn't sleeping well due to headlights through the window of our new bedroom. That issue is fixed but we adopted a new dog this past weekend and he hasn't settled into our night routine yet, meaning more random wake-up moments for me and dull circles under my eyes. While I will totally lose some sleep until my super good boy gets into a routine, I am thankful for cooling eye pads to at least make me look well-rested until that actually happens. These are so cooling and hydrating, and I immediately looked (and felt!) brighter and bushy-tailed!

Primera Alpine Berry Water Cream, 0.16 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.00 (Buy a full-size 1.6 fl oz for $40.00)

This is a new brand for me and right off the bat, I enjoy the aesthetic. I also generally love K-Beauty skincare so I had high hopes for this one. I was not disappointed! For such a lightweight cream, this stuff packs a ton of moisture. I have incredibly dry skin that only gets worse in the winter, so I am always on the hunt for my next favorite cold weather cream. This could certainly be a contender, and if you have dry skin but hate heavyweight formulations, give this a try! Bonus points: this is a clean formula!

Nuria Defend Triple Action Eye Cream, 15 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $40.00

My skin always reacts really positively to anything with ginseng. I have no idea why, but I will run with it! This eye cream is full of ingredients that delicate skin will love. Cucumber hydrates and reduces redness, ginseng energizes, and mulberry brightens! Total win! I also loved the disc-shaped applicator tip which was perfect for patting this cream into my eyes in a much gentler fashion than my fingertips.

Cargo Essential Lip Color in 'Paris', 0.1 oz. - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00

FYI: Colors may vary!

Yesssss! I love, love, love this lipstick! It is a sex-kitten red and the finish is perfection. It somehow manages to be over-the-top pigmented but still super lightweight. I really like the finish because it has just enough sheen. I do recommend a lip liner with this particular shade as I had some traveling on my upper lip, but I am the type that obsessively rubs my lips together. I think this lipstick shone brightest for me when used as a stain. I applied a ton of it, rubbed my lips together and waited a minute or so, then blotted most of it off with a napkin. It created a dreamy stain that looked even better with a little balm or gloss on top. This will be one of those tubes I end up getting to the bottom of for sure.

Creamy, dreamy, and delightfully vampy.

Here it is on!

LARITZY Liquid Beam in Topaz, 3.1 g - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00

This was the only dud in the box for me this month. I was actually looking forward to this shadow because I was hoping it would be similar to Glossier's Lidstar. I was disappointed that this pretty color didn't look like anything on my lids. Once I rubbed it in, you couldn't tell I had applied anything, and not even a hint of shimmer was apparent. It did work a little better on my cheekbones as a highlighter, but I wasn't impressed enough to use it instead of my other highlighter favorites. I think this shade is just exactly the same as my skin tone and I hope it works better for others!

I wish it went on more opaque.

Mini Makeup Eraser - Retail Value $12.00

Ok, so I have so many of these sample or mini-size erasers I could hypothetically stitch them together and make a towel. They are still so useful that I can't complain TOO much at getting another one. These things really do work well and I have a few stashed in my desk at work just for removing swatches. It just takes a little water and voila! Makeup GONE. I liked that this one was black and not the usual hot pink. It looks more sophisticated and also hides all that mascara I wipe off, between washes!

Verdict: Aside from the Makeup Eraser, this box has a total value of around $111.25, which is awesome for a $15 box. There were some items in here that were old friends (mascara, eye pads, makeup eraser), some new faves (that LIPSTICK and eye cream!) and one dud (the shadow). Overall, I would have been thrilled with this box for the lipstick alone, so the other items are icing on the cake. I always love trying a new brand and I might just be adding that Korean cream to my next haul! Allure continues to deliver solid products and great value, along with the full-size products that really make me happy.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Am I the only one who seem to get their box one month late? I got July Box first week of August and it’s been like that for the last few months. I have the subscription through Amazon.

You get the box from amazon based on the date you signed up. So if you signed up on the 25th you will get charged the 25th of every month and it will be sent after that. What you want to do is cancel your membership after August gets sent out and then resub on September 1st or 2nd, whenever the August box is done being sold. You will get charged and have it sent out in the first batch.

Amazon ships based on the date you placed your initial order.

My Amazon box doesn’t ship until the 17th, because that’s when I placed my order.

You might want to consider canceling your current order and placing it earlier next month.

So I got my Amazon box today with the Palm Beach color.

Gah!

I’m just going to break down and use the discount to get a couple I will like.
I’ve had a rough week, I deserve a present (pout /s)

Looks like everyone with the Amazon box got the Palm Beach color : ( Since the Sept and Oct boxed look good (so far) to me, I’m tempted to resub through Allure to see if I can get a better color.

My box arrived today. I decided to get this months box mainly for the skincare. Glad the eye cream is full size. I will use the eye masks and the cream but WOW is the cream a teeny tiny sample. It looks like you’re getting a decent sample but it’s a false bottom container with 2 uses is my guess. I put the makeup eraser in my travel bag. I’m not a fan of these for makeup remover but will use to remove masks. The frizz sheet is barely worth a mention. Mascara is a stocking stuffer. The Laritzy whatever that is, it dries all sticky and tacky… I know there’s several uses for it but absolutely nobody but the trashcan wants this. I got the a horrid shade of the cargo, sedona. The only way I can describe this shade is friggin fluorescent orange-red!!! Holy cow! NO!!! Not even on Halloween!!!

Received my box and am relatively pleased. I’m a bit surprised that they sent a lipstick in summer- it’s over 100 degrees where I am right now so thankfully I could grab it from the box quickly. I Like most of the goodies. I received Kyoto and applied it full strength and whoa- definitely bright bubble gum pink and doesn’t work too well on me, have dark blonde hair and fair skin. Today I just lightly dabbed it on and topped with gloss and it was much better! Should be able to use it up. 🙂

I will say, those Cargo lippies survive the heat pretty well. I didn’t realize my box had been delivered, and thus it sat in my mailbox for four days in ninety-degree weather, but the lipstick was absolutely fine. I hate the color I got (Palm Beach, absolutely unwearable hot pink), but I’m impressed with the formula.

I received my Allure box today and got “Paris” for the Cargo lip color. It is a true red, neutral to blue undertone, not orange, IMO. It’s a little bold for me but better than some of the other colors. I would have enjoyed Bordeaux or Napa. It’s still more appealing to me than the orange and pink-toned colors.

I’ll give the Cargo lip color full marks for staying power.

Lasted through a pizza dinner.

Kyoto is still awful on me (light skin, red hair)

I have to ask, why does it take 5 tries before I can get a log in to stick going from one page to another?

I’d ask privately, but the contact page leads nowhere.

I’d like to know too. This has happened to me (on my iPhone) for some time now. Aggravating.

I enjoy getting this box monthly. I may not always love everything in it but I usually find a use for most of the items. The Laritzy is great. The reviewer didn’t like it because it’s not opaque….I love it because it’s not. Just a sheer wash of shimmer on my lids. I received the Kyoto cargo lippie. It’s a baby pink and seemed a bit chalky, but with a swipe of gloss it’s the perfect pink. A nice departure from the nude shades which wash me out and the reds which are only for special occasions for me because I’m pale and have full lips and end up looking a little too lippy for everyday. I’ll use everything I received this month.

Can’t wait to get mine! I’m never mad about more mascara, especially one I really like. I haven’t bought mascara for myself in years, I usually do buy full sizes to give as gifts.

I travel a lot for work so travel sized face creams are my fave. Another good travel item is the eye mask for a little TLC during a flight or when you wake up early for a conference/meeting.

I’m looking forward to trying the eye cream and the makeup eraser. The only items that fall short for me are the lipstick (I’m not a fan of Cargo) and the liquid topper. Those will definitely go up in the swaps.

Yep. I have to travel some regionally and usually with very little notice. Thankfully, I drive. There are so many products that I love in travel sizes but some things I just can’t waver on and the biggest one for me is mascara. I love my go to and just keep the full size in my bag. I’m happy to see the makeup eraser. I won’t use it for that. Instead, I’ll use it while doing my makeup instead of using a white hotel washrag and staining it.

Got my box from Allure today.

My lip color was Kyoto – described as “a rich cherry blossom pink”, looks more like bubblegum/Barbie pink in real life. Looks good if you’re blonde and tan, but otherwise ugh.

Hopefully I’ll get a more wearable color in the Amazon box.

I got that color as well. I’m a redhead. These kinds of pink never work for me. Sigh. It seems like every time a box has a lip color from a quality brand, I get a color I can’t wear. : (

I got Kyoto (bubblegum pink).

Redhead also.

I swiped on a coat and – ahh! My lips looked like they escaped from a Sixties beach movie. Immediate pitch.

So happy! I got my box today and I the the Napa lipstick which is a purply burgundy! Don’t always love the boxes but this one is perfect for me!

Good box for me this month. I can use everything except the lipstick. But I have a Barbie lover the fam and this is a perfect pink for her!! Storing for a stocking stuffer.

Mandalinn

Got mine today and my cargo lipstick is in Sedona which is the same red-orange as the Huda one last month. Not impressed at all and completely unwearable. Oh well.

Just got my box today…felt mighty light….opened it up and it’s an empty box. Now can someone please explain to me how that could possibly happen???!!! So irritated right now! On a good note I knew it felt and sounded empty so I videoed me opening it, so hopefully allure will make good on it.

Oh dang! But hopefully a whole new box comes a lot sooner than missing/broken item replacements. Good luck!

Got the shipping notice for the box coming from Allure, it should be here Tuesday barring incident. Some days the package sorters seem to get a little loopy and send my boxes on fun jaunts.

I’m also getting one from Amazon because Allure told me my card was expiring; except that their computer tried the card and the charge was accepted, so the box shipped. The Amazon box won’t be here for another ten days or so.

I’m hoping I’ll get colors I like. I don’t know if Amazon says just give us a batch, or if they want the boxes to be uniform. I’m hoping not.

Got my box through Amazon today and also got the color Palm Beach. It’s described as coral but it is straight up neon pink on me. Like glow in the dark pink. Hopefully my box from Allure will be a different color since it will be the second month in a row that I have to give away the lip color. 🙁

Even if I get a lip shade that won’t work for me – this will be my favorite Allure box ever. I got shipping notification today, and I’m thrilled! The eye cream looks amazing, the MakeUp eraser is something I was wishing I had in black, the Laritzy looks like so much fun to use, and golds work well for me.

Craptastic month for me. I got a “palm beach” color lip and its pink. I WISH I would get red. That’s what I wear….laritzy brand is bad as bella pierre brand. The primera is kinda like the belief cream which I dont like….and the mascara has been sent in almost EVERY sub box.

I sure hope allure starts to get better. I’ve been subbed 5 years or so, never skipped a box, and the last couple years has been mostly missed for me since the new “beauty creator ” took over it’s been mostly missed for me. I sure hope they get some interesting things soon. I sub because I dont live near sephora or places, so I use these to try out and if they work I buy full size…..but this just hasn’t been working for me and been seriously thinking of cancelling

I got my box from Amazon today and lip color I was sent is called Palm Beach which is described as sunny coral but it looks bright pink to me . According to booklet there are 11 shades you could get.

I used the Laritzy as an eyeshadow and lip topper and it works better that way.

Kay

I think August is a pretty good month for me if I get the lip color that work for me. Laritzy product seems a little too watery/runny for me. I use cream highlighter over my eye shadow as a topper and wondering if that will work… Or mix in with foundation for subtle glow.

Courtney

Cant wait to get my box!!! I just don’t want another red lipstick, I know it said “variety”, but soooo far I didn’t see anybody get any other color besides the red. Ugh!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Debbie Russell

After the Huda in orange red last month and now the cargo in A red shade, not loving it. I have debated cancelling many times. Seems like a lure is just not that great for me personally. your skin looks FANTASTIC in the pic showing the lip shape.

Thanks Debbie! I tried a new highlighter from the tarte Tartiest Pro Glow To Go mini palette. 🙂

Exactly! I loveee Allure but am sooo tired of RED LIPSTICKS!!!!! Especially in the summer!

It does say colors may vary so you may not get red.
