About Sephora

The Box: Sephora Favorites: Clean Skin and Hair Set

The Cost: $46 ($115 value)

The Products: Some of Sephora's favorite clean skin and hair products

Shipping: $5.95 if your purchase is under $50, free if you are VIB Rouge. This is also available in stores.

Good to Know: In order for a product to be considered "clean" by Sephora's standards, here is what the product must be free of: sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.

Sephora Favorites: Clean Skin and Hair Set Review

Sephora Clean Skin Kit bag

Here is the bag everything came in- it is reusable and made from natural materials.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit biossance

Biossance Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum, 0.34 oz - Estimated Value $24 (Buy the full-size 1 oz for $72)

I am in love with the ingredients list on this serum- three out of the first five are squalane, niacinamide, and bakuchiol, which is a plant-based retinol alternative. Niacinamide is great for brightening and evening out your complexion, and squalane is a mega-hydrating oil that my skin absolutely soaks up. This was a winner, and I felt the hydrating ingredients balanced the bakuchiol well since retinol can be very drying. This sample comes in at one-third the size of the full-size version, too, which is awesome.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit briogeo

Briogeo™ Don't Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask, 1 0z - Retail Value $9

A lot of people love this mask, but I don't. I don't feel like it truly deep conditions my hair, and it is really more like a regular conditioner to me. If you have hair that is thinner and less dry than mine, you may find this to be a winner.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit Caudalie

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $15 (Buy the 0.66 oz version for $20)

I’ve tried this moisturizer before and I am a fan- it is lightweight, has a nice gel-cream texture that absorbs well into the skin, and is made with grape water, chamomile, and grapeseed oil. It is still hydrating enough for my dry skin without being heavy, and I think it would work well for those with combo skin too. It does have shea butter in it, so this probably wouldn’t work as a day moisturizer for those with oily skin.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit farmacy 2 Sephora Clean Skin Kit farmacy 2

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm, 0.40 oz - Estimated Value $5.17 (Buy the 1.7 oz version for $22)

This is my all-time favorite product from Farmacy, and it is also my favorite cleansing balm, period- I use it almost every time I wear makeup. It does a great job of melting away my makeup and washes away with ease and leaves no residue. I always follow up a cleansing balm with a different cleanser (the YTTP one in this kit would be a good option), and I appreciate that it leaves my face clean without feeling dry.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit Prism

Herbivore Botanicals Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion, 0.30 oz - Estimated Value $20.67 (Buy the full-size 1 oz for $62).

I have been wanting to try this for a while, and it did not disappoint. I have been using this at night on top of freshly washed skin and then layering a hydrating routine on top, and I have woken up glowing the following morning each and every time. Even though this exfoliates with a blend of fruit acids, I didn't experience any sensitivity or redness after using. This sample is pretty generous, too, coming in at one-third of the full-size version.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit Kora

Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil, 0.34 oz - Estimated Value $22.67 (Buy the full-size 1.01 oz for $68)

I have been wanting to try this for a while, so even though I do my best to stay away from products with coconut oil (which this has), I had to use it anyway. It is lightweight and sank in beautifully, and though I made sure to keep this away from my jawline (where I am prone to acne), this didn't cause any breakouts!

Sephora Clean Skin Kit IOP

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Drops in Medium, 0.14 oz - Estimated Value $4.02 (Buy the full-size 1.01 oz for $29)

I have the full-size bottle of these drops in the shade light, and I am a fan! I have never really cared about tanning, my face or otherwise, but I am starting to love how a nice (artificial) golden hue looks on me. To use, you add a few drops to your moisturizer before rubbing it in. It took about two days for me to really see a difference, and I did make the mistake of not taking it all the way down my neck- don't be like me.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit playa

Playa Endless Summer Spray, 0.85 oz - Estimated Value $5.59 (Buy the full-size 3.65 oz for $24)

This is *only* one of two hair products in this "skin and hair" kit, but okay Sephora. Playa is a brand I have seen popping up on Instagram lately, and this is a texture spray made with sea salt and beta carotene. I really don't use texture sprays like these in my hair, but I have found myself using it very lightly just because the scent is so good- it's a mix of black coconut, orange blossom, and sandalwood.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit ren

Ren Clean Skincare Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic, 1.7 oz - Estimated Value $7 (Buy the full-size 8.5 oz for $35)

This is like the fancier cousin of the Pixi Glow Tonic. I like Ren, and this toner has a potent blend of lactic and azelaic acid while not being too harsh. If you are sensitive to citrus oils, though, avoid this because it has multiples.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit YTTP

Youth To The People Superfood Face Wash, 1 oz - Estimated Value $5 (Buy the 2 oz version for $10)

This cleanser is super popular on Instagram, but while I already had a sample of this laying around I had never tried it before now. I definitely see the hype- it's non-stripping, it cleanses and has good slip, and it leaves my face feeling clean but not tight. The sample in this kit is bigger than the one I already had (no idea where that one came from), but I do find that more product comes out than I need due to the glass packaging. Luckily, the full-size version comes with a pump.

Sephora Clean Skin Kit supergoop

Supergoop!® Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40, 0.5 oz – Retail Value $16

This is one of the most popular sunscreens that Supergoop! offers, but it isn’t my favorite. It’s a clear gel that leaves no white cast and rubs in with ease, but I have found that it can also cause pilling depending on what other skincare I used that day, while also occasionally feeling oily. This is a good sunscreen people who have trouble committing to applying it every day, but it isn’t the one I personally reach for.

The Verdict: I think this was another stellar Sephora Favorites kit- none of the samples felt especially tiny, and we received a few travel-sized goodies as well as generous samples from pricy brands Herbivore, Kora and Biossance. I calculated a total value of $134.12, which is more than the promised value of $115.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this is still available.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $51.95 ($46 + $5.95 shipping) and had a total value of $134.12, which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Biossance: $9.29
  • Briogeo: $3.48
  • Farmacy: $2.02
  • Caudalie: $5.81
  • Herbivore: $8
  • Kora: $8.78
  • Isle of Paradise: $1.56
  • Playa: $2.16
  • Ren: $2.71
  • Youth To The People: $1.94
  • Supergoop!: $6.20

Great review this is very tempting and I too adore the farmacy.

Was crushing on this kit until the last item. Chemical sunscreens in a ‘clean’ kit!! Hormone disrupting and reef killing, not so clean Sephora. Supergoop has great marketing, it has convinced people if they make it it’s clean, even when it’s made from poison for people and the environment.

Honestly, a lot of these items aren’t truly “clean”. Many still have ingredients that have higher ratings on EWG / concerning chemicals in them. It’s frustrating that it’s just a marketing ploy for companies now vs actually focusing on quality ingredients.

I was just eyeing this kit in-store yesterday (I was trying to decide what to use my Play pass on. lol). I passed on it because I already have all but one item I would use out of the kit, but I probably should have looked closer at the sizes, because I think I would have bought it if I saw the Boissance (which is the one product I don’t have & have been wanting to try) was 1/3 the full size. Hopefully, it’ll still be in-store next month because I really did like most everything in the kit.

How much is the Play Pass for? I have been thinking of getting Sephora Play, what do you think, is it worth it? Is it like Macy’s which I get or maybe like Ipsy in size? Are all of the samples super tiny?

Luna

The Play pass is for 50 bonus points with any in-store purchase, but I think you have to make a $25 purchase if you want to use it online. Also, you can continue to use the pass for the bonus points until it expires; you just can’t use it 2x in one day. Also, since the passes don’t expire until the end of the following month, you can also use two passes from different months in the same purchase since they’re different barcodes to get 100 bonus points.

Play! is worth it to me because of the brands they include, and I’ve always been able to get multiple uses out of the samples they include, but since we all desire different things from sub boxes, I think it’s best to check out prior month spoilers to see if what they include appeals to you. 🙂 I would liken the sample sizes to the samples that are included in the Macy’s & Ipsy sub.

Emma

It has no cash value– it gets you 50 bonus beauty insider points on a purchase of $20 or more.
