PLAY! by Sephora is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month they send you six samples, a PLAY! BOOK of tips and tricks, and a PLAY! PASS for in-store learning.
I used to work at Sephora so I naturally couldn’t resist this subscription!
FYI - The box variation I received this month is box ending in #046. To find out which box you’re receiving at the beginning of each month, follow these instructions:
If you log in through a browser, not the app, and go to my account > account details > online orders and open the play! Order Details, you can see the “item number” next to the image.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

June 2019 PLAY! by Sephora #046 Review
Each box comes with a foldable info sheet. The front always has a design related to the theme. This month is "Destination Beauty," perfect for summer.
Each box comes with a PLAY! Pass, which is a card you can use at Sephora (in-store AND newly online as well! Woo!) to get 50 extra rewards points, and you can also get one-on-one tutorials and tips of products from a Sephora consultant.
The opposite side of the info sheet has pictures of each item and details about what they are, how to use them, and why Sephora thinks you’ll love them.
Every month they include all of the samples in a mini bag with a different design. This bag is 100% recyclable and zips shut like a baggie.
Klorane Anti-Pollution Detox Shampoo with Aquatic Mint, 0.2 fl oz - Estimated Value: $0.30 (Buy a 13.5 oz full size for $20)
Klorane Anti-Pollution Protective Conditioner with Aquatic Mint, 0.2 fl oz - Estimated Value: $0.80 (Buy a 5 oz full size for $20)
It's been a long time since I've received Klorane shampoo and conditioner samples! I first tried them through Birchbox and I remember really liking them. This is a newer variation from them: anti-pollution with aquatic mint. Aquatic mint is apparently the kind of mint with the highest level of antioxidants for detoxification and protection. I really liked using these samples! The spearmint-esque smell is wonderful in the shower and it tingles my scalp a little. My hair felt very clean and refreshed and had nice volume after using.
Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist, 1 oz - Estimated Value: $8 (Buy a 4 oz full size for $32)
A rose, hibiscus, and coconut facial spray. What an excellent product for summer! I love that this sample came in a glass bottle, which is just nice and it feels quality. This spray is refreshing and I know I'll be keeping this on hand for a hydrating pick me up throughout the hot days.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, .08 oz - Estimated Value: $2.29 (Buy a 0.7 oz full size for $20)
I love this lip mask; I actually keep it by my bed already for putting on before I sleep and I am always happy for backup samples. I was hoping to snag the vanilla variation when I saw the spoilers, but I love the way this mask feels on my lips and helps me with any chapping or dryness.
Biossance Squalane + Tea Tree Detox Mask, 0.25 fl oz - Estimated Value: $3.85 (Buy a 2.53 oz full size for $39)
Squalane is an ingredient I learned about when I worked at Sephora. It's super hydrating and made from sugar cane. I really enjoy using it. This mask has it, which I think is a smart pairing with the tea tree detox aspects because those can be drying. I don't normally deal with acne issues, but the last couple weeks I've been broken out from, I assume, pregnancy hormones. I thought this helped! The next morning my skin seemed to be brighter and the acne spots had backed off some. I'm excited to try this out with more uses.
Sephora Collection All Day Hydrator Hydrate and Glow, 0.33 fl oz - Estimated Value: $3.12 (Buy a 1.69 oz full size for $16)
I've seen Sephora promoting this new, clean ingredient line of theirs. According to their website, their "Clean at Sephora" label means those products are formulated without: Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban. All skincare, hair, and makeup brands with the Clean Seal have less than one percent of synthetic fragrances. Pay attention to that last sentence. I wish the clean ingredient label excluded fragrances.
tarte Cosmetics Babassu Foundcealer Multitasking Foundation, 0.17 fl oz - Estimated Retail Value: $6.63 (Buy a 1 oz full size for $39)
I was so excited to try this foundation this month! tarte's foundations are my favorites, and this is their newest one. I love that there's skincare in the formula and it has great reviews. Unfortunately, the shade they sent me was too dark, and I think the only lighter shade is for "porcelain with pink undertones," which wouldn't work for me (I need neutral or yellow undertones). I'll have to go in person and get samples of other shades to try out.
Verdict: This month's PLAY! by Sephora box has an estimated value of $24.69 which is a decent value from a $10 box, though definitely not my highest valued box ever. I love most of the products this month - the misses are really just the sadly incorrect shade for the foundation I've been dying to try, and the fragrance in the new, "clean" line of Sephora skincare. I enjoy my Sephora PLAY! boxes because they will always feature high-end brands, and I love trying new things or getting extras of things I already love.
