Pet Treater June 2019 Review
There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription so there’s not always a stated theme, but you will occasionally see some commonalities running throughout the box contents (there was no theme this month):
There isn’t an item list with this subscription (it is my understanding some items may vary), but you usually get a picture of a dog.
There was also some product literature.
By the way, this month’s box had a big Pet Treater sticker over a C. Wonder logo and I have questions. Because this is the normal Pet Treater box other than the logo, and I don’t think C. Wonder sells stuff through their website any longer.
O2Cool Sip ‘n Share 17 oz Water Bottle – Retail Value $11.69
This is designed to make it really easy to keep yourself and your dog hydrated while you are out and about. There’s a little compartment in the bottom where you can put treats, and you can take the side off to make a scoop for your dog to drink out of. It’s kind of hard to get the scoop off, but on the other hand, that means it won’t fall off on its own. This item is still in production and there was no plastic smell, both of which are great news!
Treat Simple Coconut Shrimp Treats (4.5 oz) – Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $5.99)
This month had an ocean/beach/water theme (and sort of a secondary summer theme) so shrimp and coconut make total sense. This does have oat flour but is free of wheat, corn, and soy. These are made in the USA from US-sourced ingredients and the expiration date was at least a couple of months away.
Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations Cookie – Estimated Value $1.35
This exact cookie isn’t available from the Emmy’s site, but their individual cookies go for $1.35 so I’m guessing that’s what they’d charge for this one, too. This does have wheat and corn ingredients, as well as chicken, so Nyx can’t have it, but I’m sure the neighbor’s dogs will love it. One thing I definitely appreciate is that there is a full ingredients list on the individual package. I can think of at least one dog box that sends cookies like this with no ingredients information whatsoever, so credit to Pet Treater for doing it right here.
All for Paws Chill Out Floating Sea Monster
I can’t find this toy for sale in the US. You can apparently soak the tentacles in water and then freeze it. This is part of a product line of toys and other products designed to keep your dog from getting too hot outside (not that they substitute for bringing your dog in on a really hot day!). Nyx liked it just fine at room temperature.
Custom Kerchief
Lately, Pet Treater has been sending out “kerchiefs” that they clearly cut themselves from larger pieces of fabric. Unfortunately, in the past few months, they have cut them too small for a big Rottweiler neck (the size has been decreasing). The edges are unfinished, which means this will fray and not really hold up to washing, although they did use pinking shears this time, which will slow the fraying a little bit. I’m just going to put this in my craft closet for now since Nyx can’t wear it but I may find another use.
All for Paws Lifeguard Shark – Retail Value $18.99
I could only find this for sale from a third party seller on Amazon, so the price may not be reflective of the actual value (I think shipping is included in the price, though). This is a plush toy with a ring around the middle. The ring comes off over the shark’s tail (I guess it’s supposed to float but Nyx does not like the water so we can’t test that out). Nyx hasn’t managed to destroy the shark yet, either.
Watermelon and Cranberry Sparklers Treats
These treats are custom made for Pet Treater so they’re not available for sale online. I do like that they are coming up with custom treats now (and they’re from a wholesaler that makes custom dog treats, so I feel like the manufacturing conditions are clean and safe and US-based), although there is no package size on this and also no expiration date, and I really feel like especially the expiration date needs to be included. The cranberry may help with urinary tract issues in dogs, too.
Nyx liked the jellyfish toy. I thought she would go for the tentacles, but she actually preferred chewing on the rubber.
Verdict: There were 7 items in the June 2019 Pet Treater box, for an average value of about $3.57. The kerchief wasn’t available online, nor was the popsicle cookie, and some of the toys were only available from foreign websites, and some of the treats were custom made for the box, so it’s really not possible to calculate a total retail value. The jellyfish toy was a particularly big hit and I will be interested to see where Pet Treater goes with the custom treats in the future. I do think they need to put a package size and an expiration date, though.
