Oui Fresh June 2019 Review

You'll find an info card that doubles as a print and lists all of the items, plus where you can buy more of them. This month is focused on summer faves!

One Love Organics Skin Dew Coconut Water Cream, 0.70 oz. - Estimated Retail Value $19.33 (Buy a 2.1 oz. jar for $58.00)

Toss the word "dew" into a skincare product and you'll pique my interest. That's all I've ever wanted- skin that looks so fresh and dewy as if I was just born during a light rain. This lil tub of water cream straight up just feels like some fresh coconut that's been stirred up and put in a jar. At first, it doesn't seem like much, but once you spread it on and let it soak in, you'll be in heaven, I promise. It smells lovely and although it has the slightest greasiness for a bit while it soaks in- it really feels hydrating and makes your skin super supple. Big fan of this cream. Might be a new summer go-to?

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Spray, 2 oz. - Retail Value $14.00

It's always interesting to see trends in brands and Captain Blankenship is certainly popular for the summertime! I just received a whole curated box featuring this brand a bit earlier in the month, so I already have a full-size bottle of this salt spray. That just means I can share it with my friends for a super beachy look. As I said in my other review, I don't think that salt is the greatest for my hair, so this wasn't a win for me personally, but this brand is lovely so it adds value to the box!

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Hair Oil, 0.10 oz. Sample Size - Buy a 1 oz. dropper bottle for $34.00

While I do not recognize this as a full item, this sample of Captain Blankenship's hair oil is accompanying the salt spray and includes a coupon code for 20% off in their online shop. This is another product I received a full-size of in another box this month, so while I appreciate the brand once again, hair oil sadly isn't for me.

Coola SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray, 1 oz. - Estimated Retail Value $4.50 (Buy an 8 oz. bottle for $36.00)

Tis the season to be getting sunblock in subscription boxes and I am here for it, especially if it's Coola! This came right in time for a kayaking trip I went on for my good friend's birthday. It worked like a charm and I came out unscathed by the sun even though we were on the river for about 4 hours. The spray is super easy to use and the small size was perfect for taking along with me to reapply. I did use the entire thing in one day, but am happy I had it!

Evolvh Wonderbalm Magic for Curls

EVOLVh Wonderbalm for Curls, Sample Size

You may notice that this item was missing from the group shot since it didn't originally come with everything else. I had to reach out and they dropped it in the mail ASAP. Unfortunately for me, I have bone-straight hair with no curls but the info card says all hair types can enjoy it. Since I have quite a bit of frizz happening at my roots, I'll try this out on wet hair to tame them. It's sort of a gel-like consistency but also slippery like an oil. Interested to see how this pans out.

Oui Fresh SPF 15 Vitamin C Lip Balm - 0.15 oz. Full-Size

This SPF lip balm is exclusive to the box which means you can't buy it at their online store or anywhere else. I also took this on the kayaking trip to make sure my lips stay hydrated and protected. It's packed with vitamin C and lots of citrus oils like lemon, lime, and orange. Perfect for summer!

Verdict: Oui Fresh Beauty Box kicked off the summer with some great ways to protect your skin while still getting outside. The salt spray and hair oil was a miss for me but did bring value to the box since the salt spray is full-size. My faves were the lip balm, skin dew, and Coola sunscreen. This wasn't my favorite box but did introduce me to some new things.

Personally, I just don’t feel like the value is ever there for this box. I’ve read the reviews since it began. It often has one or two items that look interesting to me but considering the cost of the box plus the shipping, it would be smarter to just buy those products outright. This box in particular would be a total bust for me since I have super straight, baby fine, thinning hair. So the only full size products (other than lip balm) would be useless. Both products were designed for people with wavy/curly and/or thicker hair. Between the sometimes overly specific products (like this box) and the frequent mini/trial sizes they send I just think paying almost $40 is crazy when there are much better options in the same price range or cheaper and the same type of products (clean/natural/etc). I’ve been tempted in the past by spoilers from a box here and there, although not so much recently, but the price always stops me. I guess I’m spoiled with all the free shipping boxes I get. I understand if the location of the company makes postage costs higher, but lower the cost of the box and just include it in the total cost. ($30 perhaps?)
