Medusa's Make-Up July 2019 Review

Included is a handy info card that shows off the products in the box this month and their retail values. Looks like the theme this month is 'The Heat Is On.'

And finally, a card letting us know that a VIP birthday box is in the works for August!

Now, on to the items!

Metal AF Lipgloss in 'Fade to Black', 6 ml – Retail Value $11.00

Wow! Starting off with some drama. This gloss is a charcoal/silver look formula. It did not apply well at all the first time I used it on bare lips. It was splotchy and patchy, and nearly impossible to get great coverage with. It dried tacky, and the patchiness was even worse if I let my lips rub together. I decided to try it again over a lip balm, and that worked wonders for application. It went on much smoother, and I was able to achieve more coverage. I still think this formula could use more work, but if you love metallic lips, this would certainly be a fun lappy to try.

I took this in front of a window, to try and catch all the metallic shimmer.

Glam Rock Eyeshadow in 'Hot Love', 2 g – Retail Value $9.00

This eyeshadow is really interesting! It looks like a pale pink in the pot, but when applied it is almost a smoked pink/grey base with electric pink shimmer. It is wildly subtle, but still very special. I found that for myself -as I am blending challenged- the areas that didn't have light hitting the sparkle looked a little grey, and slightly odd on my lid. Regardless, it is still really beautiful and I don't have anything like it in my collection.

Here you can really see some of the pink shimmery flash. That shimmer also ended up all over my blue mascara since I applied the eyeshadow after the mascara.

Witch Lash in 'Electric Blue', 12 ml – Retail Value $12.00

I just assumed this was a black mascara until I opened it to try it and HELLO BLUE. This color is gorgeous. I gave it a try, and my lashes were blue at the first stroke. This mascara didn't really add much volume, so I continued adding layers which did end up adding a little bit of clumpiness. I tried it again over my normal mascara and I actually liked adding just a little bit of blue to the ends of a few lashes. It was a really subtle way to try a colored lash.

This is with about 3 coats.

Moonlight Hilighter Loose Pigment, 3 g – Retail Value $12.00

This is a loose ivory-colored powder that is pretty close to transparent on my skin, except for the warm golden glow when it catches the light. This is a great highlighter on my skin, and I liked it even more when added to a few drops of face oil or a liquid foundation.

Top to bottom: Metal AF Lip Gloss in 'Fade to Black', Glam Rock Eyeshadow in 'Hot Love', Moonlight Hilighter

Verdict: This month's Medusa's Make-Up Beauty Box has a value of $44.00, which is a pretty good total for a $16.95 box! This assortment is exactly the sort of wild indie makeup I would expect to find from this company. Though the lipgloss wasn't a great formula for me personally, I loved the eyeshadow and loose powder. The blue mascara was such a fun surprise, and I was impressed with the color payoff of such a bright blue.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This is one of the more tempting makeup boxes that I’m not already getting. The lip is beautiful (great pic, btw) but is the one thing I don’t think I could pull off. Maybe mixed in with a traditional lip color. I’m adventurous, but I’m in my 40’s and a more natural lip color is where I draw the line. Wild eye shadow, mascara, I’m all about that, though I think I’d use that blue on lower lashes with a black eyeliner beneath it

Never give up on color and fun just because you’ve had a few birthdays. Those are other people’s rules.

Love love love that mascara! Reminds me of high school in late 80s/early 90s. THIS is what more sub boxes should be sending!

I felt like this was a perfect assortment from this sub, since they tend to lean more edgy!

I sent this earlier but it didn’t post so sending again. That lipstick shot belongs in the pages of Vogue and is the coolest lip shot I have ever seen on this site. At the very least, it looks like an ad and it’s perfect. Kudos!

Oh wow, my youngest is going to love that liquid lip, and the mascara will probably make her squeal! LOL I might save them and put together a fun makeup bag for her October birthday. 🙂

Great review Megan, thank you for letting us see how bright blue the mascara is on your eyelashes, and how that eyeshadow looks in lighting! 🙂

Wow!! So impressed with the color of that mascara!! Most blues don’t show at all. Would love to see them do a Navy. Great review!!

Thanks Michelle! I was really surprised at how bright it was too. Navy would be killer if it had this pigment. It looks like they do have a cobalt shade called “Twilight” that has great reviews!

That lipstick shot belongs in a glossy magazine, as if we are still reading them. So very Vogue-like! This has to be MSA’s best lipstick shot ever! Kudos.
