Lillypost is a monthly book subscription for childrenThey offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 0-3, and the Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost June 2019 "Safari" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "The Safari" and they included some fun facts for us! On the back there is a note encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before.

Mrs. Peanuckle's Bug Alphabet by Mrs. Peanuckle - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $7.12)

This book is fantastic! It goes through the alphabet and each page has a different letter and a different bug that starts with that letter. They have beautiful illustrations and fun facts about the bugs, too. My husband and I were both really impressed by this book and the kids loved it too!

Morris Mole by Dan Yaccarino - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $9.66)

Morris is a cute little mole who is much smaller and different than his brothers. One day they encounter a problem and while they are busy trying to find ways to solve it, Morris acts bravely and saves the day! This was a good story, but the illustrations are what really stood out for us.

Russell Wrestles the Relatives by Cindy Chambers Johnson - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $9.98)

This book was really fun and unique! Russell is a scrawny kid who comes from a family of wrestlers. When he hears that his big wrestling family members are coming to visit, he begins to worry about how it will go since he is so much smaller and has no wrestling moves of his own. Once his relatives arrive, he quickly learns that he does have some great moves of his own, although they are a bit outside the norm. He survives the visit from his family members and even evades his grammy, Dorothy the Dropper, with what becomes his new signature move, the Smackdown Smooch. This book was silly and fun with all of the wrestling names and movements and it ended up being a much cuter story than I expected!

Verdict: This was another great curation of books from Lillypost! Our favorite was actually the Bug Alphabet book this month, but they are all great selections that I'm happy to add to our library. The books they send are always so unique and my kids love them! The total retail value came to $43.97 which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box. With sale prices, our total is $26.76 which is still higher than the cost of the box and I always find a lot of value in the great curation of books we receive!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the July box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Bug Alphabet: $4.52
  • Morris Mole: $10.19
  • Russell Wrestles the Relatives: $10.19

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
