Fit Snack Box June 2019 Review

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Booklet Front Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Booklet Back

One side of the information card typically has a little more information about the snacks in the box and the other side has a workout for you to try. Sometimes there are also coupons and/or product literature, but not always.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Palmonds Salty Sweet Almonds Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Palmonds Salty Sweet Almonds Open in Plate Top

Palmonds Salty Sweet (1.5 oz) – Buy 16 oz for $19.99

These were unusual. I decided after awhile that they were kind of addictive, but I don’t think that was my first impression. They were also a little sticky. There’s garlic and onion powder in these, which is what makes the sweetness a little odd at first.

Fit Snack Box June 2019- Bob Peanut Butter Chocolate Top Fit Snack Box June 2019- Bob Peanut Butter Chocolate Open Top

Bob’s Better Bar in Peanut Butter Chocolate and Oats (1.76 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $22.99

This was a new product for me. Of course I love Bob’s Red Mill products and have at least 5 or 6 of them in my pantry all the time. This was definitely not too sweet, and it had a good texture, and I like the inclusion of oats (for fiber and some other grain-related nutrients). The dark chocolate was the dominant flavor here.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 -Peanut Butter Coconut Coconut Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 -Peanut Butter Coconut Coconut Open Top

Bob’s Better Bar in Peanut Butter Coconut and Oats (1.76 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $22.99

There wasn’t as much of a dominant flavor in these (that is, the coconut wasn’t super strong). This one had a similar texture to the other one and was also not overly sweet (and not sticky).

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Toasted Coconut Cashew Butter Top

Betsy’s Best Toasted Coconut Cashew Butter with Chia Seeds (1.13 oz) – Buy a 12 oz Jar for $13.99

I am not typically a fan of cashew butter when it’s plain, but this has coconut flakes and cardamom added as well (there are chia seeds too, but I don’t find those to have much flavor) and so this works for me where plain cashew butter doesn’t. This is partially sweetened with stevia but I find that to be OK in most foods in a way it isn’t in beverages.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Luke Organic White Truffle and Sea Salt Potato Chips Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Luke Organic White Truffle and Sea Salt Potato Chips Open Top

Luke’s Organic White Truffle and Sea Salt Potato Chips (1.5 oz) – Buy 12 oz for $5.99 (found here for $4.19)

This was another one where I had a hard time deciding what I thought of it. In the end, however, I think I am not a fan of the white truffle flavor. It is kind of overpowering and it stays with you, in your breath and such, for a long time after you eat the chips. I think it must be an acquired taste (although I have had truffle and sea salt popcorn that was delicious).

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Sanissimo Salmas Corn Crackers Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Sanissimo Salmas Corn Crackers Open Top

Sanissimo Salmas Corn Crackers (0.63 oz x 2) – Buy 8 Packs for $4.98

These pop up in Fit Snack Box fairly often. They are thicker, heavily grilled (I guess) corn crackers that taste somewhat strongly of corn. That’s not a bad thing, it just means you have to plan your dips and spreads accordingly. These would be good with anything Southwestern-inspired, like salsa or 7-layer dip, etc.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Chirps “Eat Bugs” Barbecue Cricket Chips Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Chirps “Eat Bugs” Barbecue Cricket Chips Back

Chirps “Eat Bugs” Barbecue Cricket Chips (1.25 oz) – Buy 6 Bags for $15.99 (found here for $12.99)

OK, I just can’t here. I can’t even open the bag. Look, I know that cricket is a source of sustainable protein, and I see it all over (even in dog treats, which Nyx loves). But this is one time I’m super glad to be a vegetarian.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Gomacro Macrobar in Everlasting Joy Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Gomacro Macrobar in Everlasting Joy Open Top

GoMacro Macrobar in Everlasting Joy (2.3 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $34.95

I have to admit, I have a hard time telling these bars apart (I mean specifically the GoMacro ones). They are vegan, if that is important to you, and they have more calories (270) than a lot of other protein bars (which usually range from 180 to 230), so they are maybe a little closer approach to a meal replacement. This one is supposed to be almond and coconut with the “joy” in the name being something of a reference to Almond Joy bars, but this reminds me of a plant-based protein bar and not a candy bar (and of course it is better for you than a candy bar since it has some actual macronutrients beyond simple carbs).

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Purelyft in Orange and Lemon-Lime Front Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Purelyft in Orange and Lemon-Lime Back Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Purelyft in Orange and Lemon-Lime Open Top

pureLYFT in Orange and Lemon-Lime (1 stick each) – Buy a 4-Stick Variety Pack for $9.99

Between Fit Snack Box and Bulu Box, I think I have a lifetime supply of this stuff. It is powdered, flavored caffeine that you can add to a beverage. You can remove the end of the stick, dump the powder in your water (or whatever) and use the stick to stir. I have had this enough times to know (1) the amount of packaging is kind of wasteful – that’s a lot of plastic, (2) the orange is more palatable (to me) than the lemon-lime, and (3) this stuff is honestly kind of bitter, because caffeine is bitter, and it may be better mixed into something else that masks the bitterness.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Spudsy Sweet Potato Puffs in Crunchy Cinnamon Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Spudsy Sweet Potato Puffs in Crunchy Cinnamon Open Top

Spudsy Sweet Potato Puffs in Crunchy Cinnamon (0.2 oz) – Buy 3, 4 oz Bags for $13.99

If this looks small, it’s because it’s tiny. I’m pretty sure it’s the free sample size from their website. These are more substantial than, say, cornstarch or tapioca-based puffs, which is a good thing in my opinion. I don’t know that I would’ve realized these were sweet potato puffs. The flavor kind of reminds me of Taco Bell cinnamon twists but I also haven’t eaten those in 30 years (don’t even know if they’re still around) so I could be really off with that.

Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Vahdam Assorted Tea Top Fit Snack Box June 2019 - Vahdam Assorted Tea Open Top

Vahdam Assorted Teas (5 bags) – Buy a 10 Bag Loose Leaf Sample for $19.99

Vahdam teas show up a lot in Fit Snack Box although to be fair, this is a brand I started buying sometimes based on my experience with it in this subscription, so I guess their advertising attempt worked on me. I think the chamomile mint citrus is a little strange (maybe too much going on) but I am a fan of all the other flavors, and I actually have like 80 bags of the turmeric spice one in my kitchen at the moment.

Verdict: The June Fit Snack Box had 11 items (counting the pureLYFT samples and the corn crackers each together) for a total average value of $2.54 per item. A lot of the items were new to me (almonds, Bob’s bars, cashew butter) so the discovery aspect of the subscription is strong this month. I was a little grossed out by the idea of cricket chips but I can see how they have a place in this box. There were a lot of interesting flavors this month, too. I still can’t quite decide what I think about the almonds!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month so it is too late to get the June's box. You'll get the July box.

Value Breakdown: At $27.90 for this box, you are paying about $2.79 per item.

I’ve had those chips and they just taste like a seasoned tortilla chip. You do not see any bug parts. They grind them in to a flour.

I am sure they do, but I have been a vegetarian since August of 1993 and crickets are not vegetarian regardless of the form in which they are presented.

I’ve tried a cricket snack. Not these, but they were actually good. And I don’t eat meat.

The bug chips would enough to make me temporarily a vegetarian. 🤮
