Allure Beauty Box July 2019 Review

Each box comes with a booklet detailing the items included and why the Allure Beauty Editors selected them.

Let's see what products are inside!

Exhibit A: The perfect red/orange-red.

After I applied this lipstick, my officemate Rachel just had to try it. She has really beautiful warm skin, and it looks amazing on her too. I think this might be a color that literally anyone could wear.

My new go-to power lip. Have I been stopped a few times by people asking what color it is? Yep. I was nice enough to spill the beans. Allure, where can I buy more?

Huda Beauty Samantha Lashes - Retail Value $20.00

I don't really ever wear lashes and these were actually intimidating to look at because they were so long and wispy! Aside from the length and volume, they were actually quite realistic looking due to some extra wisps scattered throughout. These are the sort of lashes that would likely reach my eyebrows with no problem. Though they are totally on-brand with this box and the curator, they might be a little too much for me.

VERY Important Info: You can do this with the back of the packaging.

Benefit ka-BROW! Cream-Gel Brow Color  -  Mini Size! Retail Value $12.00

(This is a variant item. Subscribers will either receive it, or Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, or Too Faced Hangover Primer)

I have mixed feelings about this product, but they stem from just not being good at using it. I like to fill in my brows with Benefit's Gimmie Brow, which is a thinner gel on a spoolie, where this version has an angle brush and a pot. I had a hard time not applying this too heavily, though the shade was the same as I use in the other formula. This is likely for someone who wants to sculpt as well as tint their brows, whereas I am just happy making mine look fuller.

#3 is a soft, ashy brown.

OUAI Texturizing Hair Spray, 1.4 oz - Travel Size! Retail Value $12.00

I am always happy to get an OUAI product because, in addition to working well with my hair, they also smell like a perfume I would buy! This spray is described as a dry shampoo+hair spray combo, and I found that pretty accurate. I flipped my hair upside down and sprayed all over, then ran my fingers through my strands. Upon flipping right side up again, I immediately noticed more volume and less oil. It didn't give a ton of texture as a salt spray would, but I loved the volume!

TONYMOLY Intense Care Snail Hydrogel Mask - Retail Value $10.00

Finally, our last item is a pretty fancy looking mask! I love this K-beauty brand so I used this immediately. It was a two-part mask, with a lower portion for your chin and around your mouth, and an upper piece that had eye holes and covered my forehead. It was a gel mask with a golden metallic coloring. I loved the formula but I did have trouble keeping the bottom half from sliding down my face and had to adjust it pretty frequently in the 20 minutes I wore it. The extra work was worth it because my skin was glowing when I removed it!

Verdict: This box has a value of $75.77, and aside from the (admittedly high-quality) lashes, I can use each and every item! I am obsessed with the lipstick color and will likely be wearing this shade all summer and into fall, as it would work for multiple seasons. The perfume was another winner, and I was surprised by how much I liked it since I rarely reach for vanilla-heavy scents. The brow gel might be beyond me, but I plan on experimenting with it until I can make it work. The hair spray is genius and lives in my purse for when my tresses need a pick me up. I always love a good mask too!

I’m amazed at how many people hate this box. I’m an intermittent subscriber myself, but when I saw the liquid lip and eyelashes, I knew I had to purchase it!

I’m olive toned and I do like orange reds. The only color I’d probably avoid is anything too brown. Even if I didn’t love the color, I’d still be excited to try the formula. I will say, because this color is so attention grabbing you need a very strong base to make this work. You can’t really pop this on without looking crazy unless you take the time to do your foundation so the whole look is polished.

I’ve actually purchased a pair of these lashes on my own a few years ago. I’m not sure if I still have them or not, but again, the price was right so I bought another pair. They are ginormous and they’re definitely not for the shy.

If you lean more towards the natural side of make up I think this box is a good way to dip your toes in the ultra glam waters without spending a fortune. I really only wanted the lipstick and the eyelashes so to me this was an awesome value paying only $7.50 for each item.

Did anyone actually get the black eyeliner? I got my box from Amazon this month and they sent the face primer to everyone, but I haven’t seen anyone say they got the eyeliner.

I got my box from Amazon and I received the benefit brow product.

I received the eyeliner. I order through Allure.

No eyeliner, just the primer. And no $5 coupon either 🙄

Oh and I joined directly thru Allure not Amazon.

I have been an Allure subscriber for quite some time and I must say I’m very disappointed with the last couple of boxes. The Huda Beauty for July 2019 is the worst. Basically I spent $15 for a sample size hair spray. I did get a full size liquid matte lipstick but it’s in ORANGE! Who wears orange?! You want me to spend $20 on your product, atleast send me a color I can try out and wear in public! Hangover face primer? Fake lashes (with no adhesive!)? And how many face masks and fancy water do one person need. The items that I “could” get looks awesome. But I always end up with the worse of the bunch. Send me the eye brow pencil or mascara, nope I get hangover water! And the cute little plastic makeup bags are well, cute but do I need one every month?! Just disappointed!

I AGREE 100% the huda bag, colors, lashes was awful for me. Total waste of money, that lip color is unflattering for most EVERYONE! I didn’t care for the hair option either. I think I got an UD liner which I have several of already because the eye brow color was way to dark for me. That bag was a ZERO for me, I passed mostly everything along to my giveaway BIN which is filled with stuff I dont want or will never use.

Reply ButtonReply

Carla

This box was a bust for me. Never would an orange red lip work on me. I wont use the perfume sample nor the mask nor false lashes. I will probably find some use for the UD eyeliner. I’m so glad I didnt get the eye brow stuff unless it was in shade 1 light blond. It was shade 3 way to dark for me. Bad BOX but that comes along sometimes, I’m happy for those that LOVE it and will pass along my unwanted items.

Reply ButtonReply

Debbie

Well I try to be positive but this was pretty much a bust. I will try the lipstick and the Ouai but sheet masks are annoying and I don’t want snail mucin.

I realllly wish that they would stop with those awful plastic bags – mine was completely busted AGAIN …..do we really need to rely on creating more plastic junk?

I requested the Benefit Ka-Brow and received it. I think the eyeliner was a higher value (full-size?), but I have enough eyeliners. I made a quick run to Sephora to test the shade and it worked for me while it looked lighter in the packaging. I don’t wear false lashes, so that item was a total bust. I prefer fresher/summery perfume, but might try it in the fall. The lippie…. did anyone try it wearing very thinly like a stain almost? I wonder if I can get away with it. I tried brighter than my usual color lippie on vacation and I received compliments…. thanks to subscription boxes, lol. I liked this box better than I thought.

The eyeliner was 0.03 . Full size is 0.04 . Still a good size item.

When I received mine, I tried a single layer of the lip color, and it was a nice soft orangey shade.
I tried more layers today and it was a bit more intense.

They need to watch their variation values, a few months ago they sent out Amore Pacific to some subbers worth 25 dollars and frizz sheets worth $2 to others and this month I got the primer worth $4 when the benefit is worth $12. For some reason I keep getting the short end of the stick on sub values. I would email them if I thought they would care. Anyone subbed through Amazon have any better luck getting the higher value variations? I might have to cancel and resub through them if I can get a better value. Its sad because I got the primer in my Macy’s box too and really like it but the tubes are so tiny. If it was worth the $12 it would be 3x the size.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I recently subscribed through Amazon and got a duplicate July box with the primer.

The July box that I got through Allure had the Kabrow,, but I had been able to select that.

We’ll see how August goes.

I’m not liking the variant thing. It’s what put me off BoxyCharm/Luxe.

Reply ButtonReply

Ebeau

I got the orange lippy and it’s bloody horrendous. I looked like a clown! Boooo!

Reply ButtonReply

Annika

Yeah, the lippie was too bright for my coloring. What I tried then was putting on lip balm first and dabbing a tiny bit on and spreading it over with my finger to make it sheerer, like a gloss. It’s a lot easier to wear intense colors when they’re sheer. It’s a lot more wearable for me. I’m determined to make it work! I enjoyed the rest of the box, but gave the lashes to my daughter’s friend. I wanted the primer, but got the Kabrow. It’s ok. I’ll use it, but I like other brow products better. I still like Allure.

Lily

Mystery gift for new members has recently been an Oribe hair oil spray. Around or above $50 retail price.
Allure sent me one because I stopped my subscription through Amazon for one month. They do really unpredictable things.

While I’m very happy to finally get a perfume sample in a box this Kay Ali Vanilla is bad. If you can get past the top notes there’s a bit of nice Tonka bean, but it’s mostly the sugariest, horrific candy vanilla I’ve ever encountered.

I’ve read in some places that it layers with other things nicely, but it costs MORE than a Chanel perfume for the same sized bottle, and Chanel is well blended enough to be worn alone.

Anyway, I am still really happy I got to try it. I love perfumes so much. They’re my favorite category of all things beauty.

michelle

Very disappointed in this box…I was really hoping for the La Brow so of course I did not get it. Hangover primer is old news…came out last year and already had it in one of their boxes. The Huda stuff is a no go…so giving that a way..not a fan of sheet masks…guess my coworkers will get this one.

Ann

Wow
I was shocked to love the lippy on me. I don’t think it’s a colour I’m going to wear often but it’s certainly one I’ll use when I’m after a more interesting look.
I was even more surprised to enjoy the fragrance as I usually HATE vanilla based scents. Somehow it leans more masculine? Actually really enjoyed it.
I also polled the eyeliner as my first choice and got it – so overall I’m really really happy with this months box!

I love Allure & I’ve found so many awesome brands/tried so many things b/c of them. I feel a bit unsure about the TonyMoly snail mask. Does anyone know if the snails are harmed? They tout snail in their marketing- but say absolutely nothing on the packaging OR booklet about the well being of the animal. When I Google it- it seems like no one really knows, it’s an “industry secret”. To me- that’s such red flag… b/c it’s not like it snail mucin is proprietary to 1 brand. How do they meet their snail mucin 10,000 ppm quotas? I don’t mean to bring the mood down (facemasks are one of my favorite beauty box items!)… I’m just surprised the question isn’t out there more. Obviously people eat snails all the time. I don’t know how to justify it. I think my mind is thinking sustenance vs. a single use beauty product (of which there are millions w/o animal involvement) that I will wear for 30 mins & throw away. I would be happier if this product more responsibly spoke to this. I will use this mask but for these reasons- I will never buy it or buy anything that has this animal related issue. I feel like we deserve more transparency & not just “edgy” marketing.

Reply ButtonReply

mandi

Everything I’ve read over the years has said the snails get small electric shocks and that is how they produce all the mucin they need. I have no idea how long or often they do it for or what the voltage is. IDK exactly what the process is for Tony Moly, but if Corsrx uses humane ways that’s great, they are more expensive than Tony Moly though so they can probably afford it.

Reply ButtonReply

pinkhoo

I don’t know about TonyMoly, but the snail muscin product I’ve been using from CosRX gets their snail secretions by having the snails crawl across a mesh. It doesn’t hurt them.

I don’t like single use masks, either. I don’t like the way they feel and I don’t find they fit my face very well. Also, I think they slide and fall off, so I only use them when I can lay down for a half hour. I never buy them, I just use the ones that come in beauty boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Sunny

I had this same thought as well. This is the info I found:

New York City dermatologist Tabasum Mir told HuffPost exactly where snail secretions come from.
“When snails are agitated, they excrete a thick fluid as a means to protect themselves,” Mir said. When concentrated, this slimy snail mucin is said to aid human skin by hydrating, preventing aging and improving wrinkles and scars.
So, is it worth it?
Likely not: Snail mucin is packed with nutrients, but there’s no guarantee it’ll be effective as a skin treatment, Marie Jhin, a dermatologist at California Pacific Medical Center

I don’t want anything to do with this product!!

So love the lashes and I use the sprays to hold my summer bun. I was so certain that orange red lip would be a giveaway … I took to work in package with coworker in mind. She insisted I try… uh, I don’t wear orange red but I caved and I am stunned, it feels weird but I received a lot of compliments so I think out of my comfort zone. I also rock orange as a color so I guess why not a lip color. I am not be as comfortable as you Megan but I am sure happy you say good fall color. I am having hard time with coupon so is there a minimum for shop Huda. Pretty pleased with Box!

Reply ButtonReply

Teresa

So I got my box from Amazon and while it’s not a bad box, the liquid lip is a huge NO for me. I had hopes for it and was looking forward to trying it, but it was straight up orange on me. And when I tried to wipe it off it smeared on my cheek and I looked like I had just made out with Ronald McDonald! I’ll be getting a second box sometime this week from Allure, so I need to see if I can give my Huda lip to someone that might appreciate it more. I hate for it to go to waste.
I got the Too Faced primer in this box. Hoping for the Benefit brow in my second box.

Cyndi

“Made out with Ronald McDonald”, so funny – thanks for the laugh!

Eve

Sigh, ANOTHER red lip color I can’t use. I don’t understand why they constantly send red! Some people can’t pull off dark lips and I am one of them. It wouldn’t be so bad if they sent other colors but everytime they do it’s a variant product and I don’t get it like the anastasia pink lip gloss I got whatever other product they sent but no lip. I cancelled sephora for the unfair box variations and values and I think allure is next. The reason I love them is because they have no variations but now they do and I always end up with the variation I didn’t want.

Anyone knows what’s that mystery gift fir new members???

Has anyone got their Amazon box yet? Did you guys get everything in this one or something else?

I think I’m more grossed out by the lipstick being yet another (snore) matte than it being that hard to wear color. Hasn’t the matte trend started its decline? Dry lips are a sign of dry weather, ill health, or death. I never understood it. And other boxes are starting to ship with glosses again. I understand that mattes are long wearing, but that’s why when it really matters I turn to Cover Girl Outlast. I love premium makeup but when I got married last year I wanted to kiss my new husband at the altar and not leave lipstick on him but keep it on me. That stuff works.

Allure brings brands and things I don’t get in other boxes, so a daring red isn’t surprising, but I really do see the matte trend passing. I might be watching for its death more closely than those who like it though, I admit. It does look great on a lot of you.

Hate mattes love glosses , mattes are so drying , most glosses are moisturizing and does make lips look healthier

I resubscribed just for this box! Just the Samantha lashes did it for me. They are some of my favorite lashes and so happy I don’t have to buy a new pair for a while now. I’m a sucker for a good red lip, but haven’t been able to find a good red-orange so fingers crossed this works for me. Everything else is a plus!

I love this months box and am happy to be getting 2….Super excited.

Sadly this is the last box of my yearly subscription (I’ll renew it when I have a bit more extra money) but it looks like a fantastic box! I won’t use the perfume if it’s really heavy on the musk, but orange-red lipsticks are my favorite, so I’ll be sporting that. I want to try using false eyelashes more, so this will be a good excuse for that. I dont know about the kabrow, since I already have pretty thick eyebrows, but i think i would rather try that than get another primer or black eyeliner. Also OUAI products are always, always welcome.

I’ll be swapping or selling my July box. The July box doesn’t work for my daughter either so I will have 2 boxes to swap/sell.

I don’t know if you’re aware, but Ouai makes actual perfumes lol They’re always out of stock but I think they’re restocking soon? You (and I/they’re stuff is intoxicating!) obviously need them! 😊

Megan, if you like how Oribe smells, they also make perfumes too! 😉
