Scent Box May 2019 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

Scent Box May 2019 - Booklet Front Scent Box May 2019 - Booklet Back

The information card has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side.

In case I have not mentioned it in past reviews, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

On to the fragrance:

Versense by Versace – Estimated Value $13.80 (Buy 1 fl oz for $51)

This one seems to be discontinued as it is only available from discount and closeout retailers (and no longer at places like Macy’s or Ulta, which do carry other Versace fragrances, including Crystal Noir which I really like).

Anyway, although this has a lot of non-floral notes, it is primarily floral, and I find it OK but definitely not my favorite. Base notes include sandalwood, cedar, olive tree, and musk (I’m not super familiar with olive tree although I am generally a fan of the other three base notes). Mid notes include lily, jasmine, cardamom, and narcissus. I find the jasmine to be the strongest note, by far, at least with respect to my skin chemistry, and it is interacting with the musk, which is the most noticeable base note. Top notes include bergamot, mandarin, and a generic multi-citrus note along with fig and pear. I am really not noticing the top notes at all – there is almost no fruit here. On me, it is all florals (mostly jasmine) with a little musk. I’m kind of sad about that because I love fig in fragrances.

Sillage is not super strong; I’d call it average. Longevity is also about average. If you like to wear a noticeable scent, this is one you’d reapply at lunchtime.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $13.80. That is a little bit below the $14.95 cost of the subscription, but your value will vary quite a lot depending on your selections, and of course you are getting a holder every month as well as the ability to make free exchanges if you don’t care for the fragrance you receive (those last two are definitely not offered with any other fragrance subscription). I’m noticing a lot of discontinued fragrances from Scent Box, but that can be a good thing if there is something you love that is no longer in production (and you don’t want to cough up a gouged eBay price for a bottle), and it can also be a good way to experience a fragrance from a brand you haven’t tried before. This was a bit more floral than I care for, but if I am ever really feeling like I want to wear a floral (it does happen from time to time) I can see myself reaching for this.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $13.80 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

At the bottom of the page (click on any of the Scent Box links above to get there) are a bunch of boxes under “Brands We Carry.” Each box has a header up top that says the brand and a list of scents (not sure if it is complete, but there are a lot) underneath. To get past “A” and “B” brands, there are a bunch of dots under the boxes that you can click to see C-Z brands. Hope that helps.

Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to Rosemary.

I was planning on browsing the available fragrances before committing to a subscription, but I can’t seem to see any list. How can you tell if they have the scents that you would like to try before subscribing?
