PostStitch KnitStitch June 2019 Review

PostStitch has become one of my favorite yarn subscription boxes, and I was really looking forward to receiving this one. I think it has the best presentation of all yarn box subscriptions, and they usually have a great curation of items. Let’s get into the items from the June box!

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Information Card Front Top

The front of the info card features a June calendar on a drawing of a cute pig wearing a dress. It’s such a cute card to pin to a bulletin board or tuck into your purse for when you need to see the month at a glance! These cards feature a different animal each month and I love the surprise of what it will be when I open the box!

The back of the info card lists the pattern and yarn included for this month’s project, and you can also see the extras that are included in each box level. A super thoughtful touch is that they include alternative pattern ideas if the pattern sent in the box doesn’t appeal to you. I absolutely love that they have taken that extra step so that you don’t have to scroll through Ravelry trying to find something that works with this weight and yardage of yarn!

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Oink Pigments Jewls Yarn in color Lavish Lavender Top

Oink Pigments Jewls Yarn in Lavish Lavender - Retail Value $31.00

The yarn this month is from dyer Oink Pigments, which is a new-to-me brand. Looking at their website, they have a ton of different colorways and products that they offer, so I’m excited to have found out about them! The yarn I received is in color “Lavish Lavender,” which is a lilac purple with indigo speckles.

The yarn is fingering weight and has 430 yards in 113 grams. It is 100% Superwash Merino, 30% bamboo, and 10% nylon. It is SO soft and has excellent drape due to the bamboo content. The yarn also has a bit of a silky sheen to it, which I love.

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - No Pressure Shawl pattern Front Top

No Pressure Shawl Pattern by Stephanie Lotven - Retail Value $6.00

The patterns in PostStitch are always enclosed in a plastic binder sleeve, and this is another incredibly thoughtful part of this box! This is so practical, as it’s easy to lose patterns when they are floating around loose in your house. Of course, you could always buy binder sleeves and do this yourself, but I think it’s so wonderful that this box includes the sleeves already - they take that extra step out of the equation for you.

The pattern this month is for an asymmetrical shawl with a lace border detail. The description of the pattern says that it is easily adjusted for any amount of yardage (over 400 yds) that you have and that there’s “no pressure” when finalizing the length of your shawl. I love this idea of having a simple, relaxing knit!

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Pig stitch marker Top

Pig Stitch Marker - Estimated retail value $5.00 (similar stitch marker from a past box found here)

I love that PostStitch really ran with the pig theme this month! From the brand of the yarn (Oink) to the drawing on the info card, to now a super cute flying pig stitch marker - it’s all curated so thoughtfully and I appreciate these little touches. This stitch marker is made of silver metal and the ring of it does not open (good for knitting, not as great for crocheters).

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Soak Wash in scentless Front topPostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Soak Wash in scentless Back Top

Soak Wash in Scentless, 5 mL - Full-size bottle retails at $16.00 here

I love Soak Wash! It’s my favorite soap for washing my handknits. You don’t have to rinse your item after you wash with it, and I’ve never had a problem with fading or colors running with this product. I’ve tried several of their scented soaps (they are all really lovely), but the scentless is my personal favorite. So I’m happy to have an extra packet of it - this will be great if I travel with my handknits!

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Plastic Bag Top

The yarn came encased in this plastic bag, and at first, I thought it was just packaging and was going to throw it away. But then I noticed that it has a drawstring cord at the top - this bag can be used as a project bag! Again, PostStitch blows me away with their attention to detail throughout the box. The packaging for the yarn could easily have been something without a dual purpose, and I love that this addition of a reusable bag not only creates less waste but also gives me a handy place to store my shawl while I’m working on it!

PostStitch Yarn Subscription Box Review June 2019 - Shawl Progress Photo Top

When I initially started working on this pattern, I didn’t think I would be blown away by it - there are so many asymmetrical triangle shawl patterns out there that I’ve seen. But I surprised myself with how much I really loved this particular pattern! The lace section is super fun to do and quite addicting - I kept wanting to get to one more row.

The yarn is absolutely gorgeous when worked up. The fabric it creates is so elegant and drapey - I feel like it makes the perfect lightweight summer accessory. It’s a little bit hard to tell in the photo, but there are dark blue/indigo speckles in parts of the yarn, and I think they add just enough interest to make this yarn really stand out.

Verdict: I thought this was a great PostStitch box! I have reviewed a number of knitting and yarn subscription boxes, and this one is definitely one of the best I’ve seen. I like how every part of the box feels like a gift, and the box as a whole is so well thought out and put together. I highly recommend this box to anyone who loves to get fun knitting-related boxes in the mail! For $40.00, we received one skein of luxury yarn, a printed pattern, and a stitch marker with a total value of $42.00. We also received a sample packet of Soak wash, and a reusable plastic project bag (value unknown).
