Orglamix May 2019 - Box

Orglamix
2.8 overall rating
4 Ratings | 3 Reviews

Orglamix is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty subscription containing loose shadows, glitter pigments, aromatherapy roll-ons, and more. Many of the items in the subscription will be unique to the subscription and not available in the Orglamix shop (although they will have the same great formula).

They are now doing custom box prints every month and they’re quite pretty.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Orglamix May 2019 “Coral Reef” Box Review

This month’s theme is “Coral Reef.” Let’s see how Orglamix incorporated that theme into the month’s items:

Orglamix May 2019 - Booklet 1 Orglamix May 2019 - Booklet 2 Orglamix May 2019 - Booklet 3

The box came with an information card detailing the items and theme for May. It sometimes also lists ingredients, which is nice since these items aren’t typically available in their online shop.

Orglamix May 2019 - Blush

Coral Reef Natural Mineral Blush – Listed Value $16

Wow, this is orange! In all seriousness, I do sometimes want to wear blush this color, but when I put it on the first time, it was way too bright for me. I think if I mix it with a little finishing powder (I use a loose finishing powder so this is something I can easily do) it will work for me. On the other hand, if you have darker skin, you should also be able to get this to show up. In general, Orglamix blushes are very easy to blend.

Orglamix May 2019 - Eye Cream

Coconut Eye Cream – Listed Value $32

This looks pretty thick in the jar but it actually isn’t so dense. It applies smoothly and absorbs well. It has almost a whipped consistency and this makes it good as a daytime eye cream for me (I like to use super thick eye creams at night). It was moisturizing for sure. I don’t get dark circles and I don’t have many fine lines around the eyes as of yet so I can’t speak to how well it performs. I will say, $32 (which is what the information booklet said) seems a little steep for the amount you get.

Orglamix May 2019 - Mask

Mermaid Face Mask – Listed Value $18

This is a pre-mixed mud mask with Dead Sea minerals. It performs excellently; my skin really looked great after using this and my pores were all cleaned out. But, I think I would have liked for this to have a little added fragrance because it smelled kind of unpleasant (not like it went bad or anything, just like mud and minerals).

Orglamix May 2019 - Mist

Coconut + Sea Salt Hair Mist – Listed Value $12

This smells nice. I never seem to see much of an effect from products like this, though, I think because my hair is naturally kind of wavy. I may use the rest as a light hair fragrance.

Orglamix May 2019 - Shadow

Sunset Glow Natural Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12.50

You’ll usually get at least one loose mineral eyeshadow with this subscription. This is a lovely orange color with a bit of shimmer to it. I find that this blends really well and doesn't irritate my eyes. Just be sure to wear a good primer since it is a loose powder.

Orglamix May 2019 - Swatch

Here are swatches of the eyeshadow (top) and blush (bottom).

Verdict: I calculated a value of $90.50 for the May Orglamix subscription box. The items this month were all exclusive for this box, so I had to rely a lot on the information card but they seem in line with past boxes (although the listed value for the eye cream seems a bit high for the amount you receive). All the colors reminded me of a tropical setting, with “coral” specifically coming from the blush and eyeshadow. I thought there was a nice mix of skincare, hair care, and color cosmetics, as well, and I’d say this was a pretty representative box for this subscription, overall.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this was May’s box and they say they ship around the 10th (in practice, it may be a week or two after that before the box actually ships, although this month’s box was received somewhat later than usual). You’d probably get the June box as your first one.

Value Breakdown: At $34.95 per box, here’s approximately what you are paying per item:

  • Blush $6.18
  • Eye cream $12.36
  • Mask $6.95
  • Hair mist $4.63
  • Eyeshadow $4.83

Alternatively, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $6.99.

I have naturally textured hair that I wash every 2 or 3 days, and since I get so many salt sprays, texturizers, and dry shampoos (and can only give so many away before my friends start questioning if that’s all I get in my boxes, lol), I started to use them as hair fragrances too since they have no effect on my hair & the ones I’ve used so far have always smelled so fresh or perfumey. I’m actually really happy having discovered this alternate use for these type of sprays.

That’s brilliant, thank you!

The eye creme and mud mask seem to be valued a tad bit high. No way would I pay $18 for that small amount of mud!
Great review.
