Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Toffee

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Toffee, 0.07 oz – Estimated Value $7 (buy the full-size version for $16)

I am not a big lip gloss fan because they can feel heavy and sticky, and that was my experience with this gloss. Toffee is a light warm brown that’s fully opaque like a lipstick, and I just did not enjoy how it felt on my lips.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Pink

Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Pink, Full-Size! Retail Value $34

This lip tint is super comfortable like a nourishing lip balm, but the shade bare pink isn't noticeable (on me and I don't think it would be noticeable on anyone). It is essentially a clear lip balm, which is a bit of a bummer considering the cost of the full-size. I do appreciate the full-size being included in this kit, though- I had to do a double take and verify the size of my lip balm because it is smaller than what I expected the full-size to be! For perspective, this is about the same size as the Anastasia lip gloss sample.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly

Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly, 0.5 oz – Retail Value $5

I have tried the dramatically different line from Clinique before, but this was my first time trying the hydrating jelly. It comes out with the texture of jelly (which is fun) and then melts into an almost watery consistency when you apply it. I use this as a hydrating serum before a heavier moisturizer, and I am happy with it that way.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dolce & Gabbana The Only One Perfume 1 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dolce & Gabbana The Only One Perfume 2

Dolce & Gabbana The Only One Perfume, 0.13 oz – Estimated Value $7.64 (buy the 1.6 oz version for $94)

This is a new fragrance from Dolce and Gabbana that features notes of bergamot, coffee, iris, and vanilla, and it has a warm sweetness that I appreciate. I love that the sample is a spray, too- I really dislike rollerball perfumes for reasons I cannot fully articulate.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $9.88 (buy the full-size version for $79)

This physical exfoliant is probably familiar to most of you thanks to its frequent appearance in subscription boxes. I prefer chemical exfoliants to physical, and this one has a bit too much grit for my liking (if I am using a physical scrub, I prefer the grit to be almost minuscule). I know a lot of people love this scrub, though, so if you are curious about trying it I say go for it.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel 1 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel 2

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel, 3 uses – Estimated Value $8.80 (buy a box of 30 for $88)

Speaking of chemical exfoliants, that’s exactly what these pads are. I don’t love that step one has Alcohol Denat as the second ingredient, but it is also made with witch hazel, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid. You swipe step one over your face until the pad feels dry, wait two minutes, and then swipe on step two which acts as a neutralizer for all of the acids you just applied to your face. My skin is definitely smoother after one use, and I didn’t experience any increase in sensitivity.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $16.20 (buy the full-size version for $162)

The smell of this serum reminds me of my mom, which I don’t fully understand because I know for a fact my mom wasn’t shelling out $162 for a serum. This absorbed into my skin quickly and left a semi-matte finish on my skin, so I definitely see the appeal of using this serum in the morning. This is made with the powerful antioxidant idebenone, which fights free radicals (and in turn, fights signs of aging).

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery 1 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery 2 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery 3

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery, 0.10 oz – Estimated Value $12.40 (buy the 0.5 oz version for $62)

I challenge y'all to say the name of this eye cream three times fast and then I challenge y'all to get a sample because I enjoyed this. The Advanced Night Repair Concentrate is pretty popular, and this relatively new eye cream takes that same beloved complex and turns it into an eye cream. A tiny bit goes a long way and it feels luxurious applying it at bedtime, and when I woke up the next morning the skin around my eyes still felt hydrated rather than dry or tight. This also won the 2019 beauty award for Best Eye Cream from Glamour, too.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $18 (buy the full-size version for $36)

Juice Beauty is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand that pops up a bit frequently in subscription boxes, but I haven’t tried this primer before. I like the subtle sheen this provides while also having skin-healthy ingredients like grapeseed oil and vitamin E—the first ingredient is aloe!

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Dillard's Swatch

Here is the primer swatched followed by the Lancome cream, the Bobbi Brown lip tint, and the ABH lip gloss.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Keracell Invigorating Shampoo with Multiple Human Stem Cell Extract

Keracell Invigorating Shampoo with Multiple Human Stem Cell Extract, 1 oz – Estimated Value $5 (buy the 8 oz version for $40)

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that I will try some weird stuff for the sake of reviews? Human stem cell extract in shampoo, really? This shampoo worked well enough for me- it didn’t dry my hair out, and that is usually the case for shampoos not specifically made for curly hair.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Keracell Fortifying Conditioner

Keracell Fortifying Conditioner, 1 oz – Estimated Value $5 (buy the 8 oz version for $40)

More human stem cells, but this time in my conditioner! I thought this paired well with the conditioner to nourish and hydrate my hair without weighing it down, but the tube felt half empty and it was hard to get the product out.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Kiehl’s Youth Dose Eye Treatment

Kiehl’s Youth Dose Eye Treatment, 0.10 oz – Estimated Value $7.80 (buy the full-size version for $39)

I love Kiehl's, but since I wear glasses I shy away from retinol eye products due to the increased risk for sun sensitivity (I actually have sun damage I am working to try and correct due to this exact reason, though it was a different retinol). Along with retinol, this is also made with red grapeseed extract and vitamin C. According to Queen Paula, it is a myth that retinol and vitamin C shouldn’t be used together, so this eye cream really does pack a potent punch for those who want to fight the signs of aging around their eyes.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Lancome Absolue Soft Cream

Lancome Absolue Soft Cream, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $20.40 (buy the 1 oz version for $120)

This is a new product from Lancome, and I actually thought it was a makeup product at first (which is why you see it in the swatch above- oops). This is a luxury moisturizer made with grand rose extract, meadowfoam seed oil, and rose concentrate. Even though it has rose in the ingredients it didn't smell like rose, and it left my skin feeling plump and soft. While I enjoyed this, as a whole I do not feel the ingredients list justifies the high price tag.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Moschino Toy 2 Eau De Parfum

Moschino Toy 2 Eau De Parfum, 5 mL – Estimated Value $7.60 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $76)

This is a new perfume from Moschino, and I love that our sample looks just like the full-size packaging! This has notes of mandarin orange and granny smith apple combined with floral notes and sandalwood, and I think the sandalwood adds warmth to the otherwise fruity scent. I enjoy using it, and this sample should last a while.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream 1 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream 2

Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream, 0.14 oz – Estimated Value $20.16 (buy the full-size version for $72)

I always enjoy seeing Perricone MD in subscription boxes due to the hefty price tag, and I enjoyed this eye cream. A tiny bit is enough for both eyes, and it spread across my skin evenly. I patted this both under my eyes and on my eyelids, and I experienced no eye sensitivity which always makes me happy.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion

Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion, 2 oz – Estimated Value $5 (buy the 16 oz version for $40)

Amazing Grace is a cult fragrance for many, but I have never been able to hop on that train. I still liked this lotion though- it absorbed quickly into my skin and didn’t leave my legs feeling sticky (important in this south Louisiana humidity).

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Smashbox The Original Photo Finish Smooth and Blur Primer

Smashbox The Original Photo Finish Smooth and Blur Primer, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $9 (buy the 1 oz version for $36)

This is one of the first full-sized primers I have ever owned, and it has remained a classic for a reason. If you don’t like the silicone feel of primers this won’t be for you, but I like how it leaves my face feeling velvety smooth and ready for foundation.

Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Strivectin TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream Plus 1 Dillards Spring 2019 Beauty Box - Strivectin TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream Plus 2

Strivectin TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream Plus, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $13.97 (buy the full-size version for $95)

I don’t use a neck cream (even though I know I should, even if it is just a regular moisturizer). After using this, though, I do think I need to make it a part of my regular routine. I really enjoyed how it relaxing it was to take a few extra moments to massage it into my neck, and it didn’t leave me sticky. I can’t really say much about if it *tightened* my neck, but I’ll use this sample up.

The Verdict: I can see why this box sold out so fast. It is hard to go wrong with pricey skincare samples and a full-size Bobbi Brown product, and the $15 coupon is like icing on the cake. I liked that there were so many newly released products included (six, according to the info on the box!), and I thought as a whole this was a good curation. I do wonder if we *really* needed three eye cream samples, but that is my only genuine critique about this kit. Value-wise, I calculated a total value of $212.85 for all of the products in this $34.95 box, and I think that is absolutely fantastic.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, this is now sold out.

This box is still available. I just bought one from the Dillard’s in Nashville. All I had to do was ask one of the sales associates and she brought it right out. I’m just checking out the review to see if I want to keep it and noticed people are saying it’s sold out. If you are interested in getting one be sure to ask when you are in the store.

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

I bought this in store today, so may be worth checking if you have a Dillard’s near you…..or road trip to Lincoln, NE as there were 3 left! 😀

Ms.Rose

Whaaaat??

I always seem to love the items that are sold out…and I have to travel to get them!

Great find, Donna! ✨

Oh boy, pitchforks and grown women acting like petulant children as usual on MSA!

I give thanks to Liz and the other people who work on this site because dealing with the “public” and these rude, entitled children must be incredibly taxing especially when you cant tell them to stick it up their ……..

Some of you need to dig deep and see a therapist. It’s just beauty products.

Thanks for the review!

Great review, Jessica! It’s a shame this box sold out because I would love to take the coupon to Dillard’s and use it with a gift card I’ve been waiting to use 😂

Anyway, on a side note, do you mind sharing where you got your MM bracelet? I love it!

Thank you!

Hi Rebecca!
Thanks! Mine is from the association in perryville, Missouri! I’ve been there in person but they mail the bracelets too.

Courtney

Wow is it Oreo box time already? 🙄😳

This box is great and I would’ve loved to buy it but alas I didn’t read my NB magazine. Glad to know about for the future though! I certainly don’t expect MSA to advertise for every box they review. As far as I’m aware, they are an independent site And not a paid branch of marketing for these beauty box companies. Plus advertising just adds to the competition to purchase highly sought after items.

When will the next Dilliard box come out ? Also is it always a collaboration with new beauty? Or different each time it comes out? Thanks 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Check out Dillards online because the fall box is out now AND the old box is on there also! There are a couple of past Spring boxes. These are such a great deal, even if you pay shipping. However they now have ship to store so thst saves $9.95 and guarantees you’ll get the item. YAY!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

The next one should be coming out in November, and it’s always been a collab with New Beauty. 🙂

Luna, do you have an IG or Twitter account where you post upcoming boxes? You always have stellar intel on upcoming boxes and I don’t want to miss out again! If you happen to post info on any of your social media platforms I’d love to follow and turn on those notifications! 😁

Thanks a lot Luna !

Rather than having box envy after realizing that it is no longer available… Apparently we all need to set a reminder for post summer…

Reply ButtonReply

amber

If they receive info from someone here, they post about it. They don’t get notified by the company of every single box out there. That’s just impossible. Maybe do some research and see if you can sign up for a newsletter through New Beauty or whatever, and you can be notified.

The reviews after the fact are still helpful since it shows what you can expect from future boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Nina

But it was purchased by a reviewer on this site at the time it was available.Surely if it was purchased they knew about it. Thats when it should’ve been posted here.. not just after it was received and reviewed 🤷🏻‍♀️ Liz apologized and stated it was an oversight.. which is fine with me.. I completely understand mistakes happen and that they aren’t responsible for every box.. I’d honestly have preferred to not see this review at all seeming as it was sold out. It’s just frustrating considering it’s such an amazing box and yet none of us can get it.. hence the oodles of FOMO in the comments (in this case it’s the Frustration Of Missing Out… not the Fear Of Missing Out)

Dot

Second that – I would rather get a heads up when I could purchase it ! Not
A review after the fact :/

Agree; I was pulling out my wallet midway through this review. Alas.

Well, because of this really nice box they didn’t make enough of to begin with, I’m now on New Beauty’s lists that go on for miles.

I now have been welcomed via one email to a subscription to their ” magazine” which is all ads for questionable DIY cosmetic fixes for lines, wrinkles, thinning hair ( none of which I have), or the more drastic category plastic surgery the last time I looked at one in the mag. section of Barnes and Noble.

ALL I wanted was to get emails about ” upcoming events”– but I’m in their ” database” from the very beginning of their online presence, which means ” til death do we part” with these people. If their advertising disguised as magazines start coming in the mail, it won’t be the first time they did this. ” Free gift”, yeah. No.

As a thank you for signing up for their email, they had the nerve to send another ( 4th or 5th) email with a lovely big CLICK HERE button. I was half asleep, almost clicked. It was for the NBTT.
I can’t believe they tried to sell me their two largest money makers just for signing up for their email ” first to know” list.

Be careful if you try to find out about their boxes via their email. You might end up subscribed to SOMETHING. No kidding.

It’s a shame Sandow is so persistent in hawking this and that, but NOT the Dillard’s box. I mean, I’m IN a Dillard’s store every week or so, same with Macy’s.
They’re in all our malls as the ” anchor stores” now, along with Nordstrom’s if there’s no Neiman’s, etc.

I seriously should have seen this box or something about it. New Beauty just never has had their act together well, IMO.

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

Holy crap. That’s a lot of stuff. Totally getting this if it’s a monthly thing!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Unfortunately, it’s not a monthly box. That would be so cool if it was though!

Reply ButtonReply

Suzy

Dillard’s and New Beauty does this every Spring and Fall. I used to work at Dillard’s HQ for one of the VPs and I miss being in the know way beforehand.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristine

Great review Jessica. You always do such a great job. I love all your reviews. Xoxo

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Eyeglass lenses- both plastic and polycarbonate, have 100% uv protection built into them. The plastic is a UV coating applied during manufacturing and polycarbonate material blocks rays. Anyone wearing glasses should not worry about using retinol around the eyes. I do and I’m fine. But anyone using retinol should wear sunscreen over the top. I use elta md, but you can also get eye creams and even concealer with sunscreen built in. My two cents.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

Glasses won’t protect you. Sunscreen is a must in general, retinol or no retinol.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Absolutely still need sunscreen with retinol.

Jessica Hapak

Thanks, Becca! I didn’t know that- maybe it’s not my glasses and instead I need stronger sunscreen around my eyes.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

I get really sun sensitive with retinol so I can relate! SPF 40-50 works for me. I take it and rub it over my face and pat what’s left on my orbitol bone under my eyes. Also supergoop makes a super pretty shimmer SPF shadow you can use on lids. Sephora sells it.

Becca

I need to remember to get some popcorn before reading these comments 😂

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

FYI – it’s written and pronounced “denatured alcohol”, not “alcohol denat”, and not capitalized. Ingredients are not capitalized unless they’re the first word in a sentence, or a person/place name (e.g., “Brussels sprouts”, “St. John’s wort”).

If you love silicone primers but not the Smashbox prices, I recommend the one from the brand L.A. Girl.

Reply ButtonReply

A

Julia I have this exact sample pack in front of me and Jessica wrote it exactly as Dr Dennis Gross did. I think it is proper to cite the ingredient list on the product for the ingredients (where else would someone look easily?), and I wouldn’t expect a reviewer to go do further research on whether or not a manufacturer was using proper English for each ingredient on their list, especially when the reviewer recognizes the ingredient. And FYI: a lot of beauty companies are capitalizing their ingredients, do you call each one of them out? Do you need contact info for Dr Dennis Gross?

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

I needed a good laugh today. Thank you 😂

SRD

Nothing better than a passive-aggressive FYI. I doubt most people read beauty blog comments in order to get AP Stylebook-esque tips, but then I also hate brussels sprouts (with an optional capital “B”). Definitely made me laugh.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

FYI- I love this response. Thank you for making me giggle. I’m so put off by “FYI” condescension posts that truly serve to be nothing more than rude.

Becca

I have this same peel. On the box it says Alcohol Denat (SD Alcohol 40-B). All caps are intentional. I copied it exactly how it was written in the side of the box in the ingredients list. 🤣

Well I skipped over the craziness, Can we still get this next month with new beauty?? What is crazy I didnt get anything through new beauty so I am so confused how ppl knew about this? Can someone let me know please. It is yall fault!! Some ppl r crazy over there boxes, I mean I was upset for a minute tops but there is nothing anyone can do, ppl that r upset should tell new beauty tube lol. But if anyone could let me know please thank you. I’m running out of eye cream hehe…. Liz it isnt ya’ll fault at all!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi C! I found out about it because it was advertised in New Beauty’s magazine. At the time it was only available in stores, but from past experience I knew it would be available online a little while later, so being the curious nut that I am with these things, I checked Dillard’s site periodically and it was there one day(!), but it ended up being available online for a very short time before it sold out. 🙁

Luna, when that Barney’s beauty one came up, the Dillards was mentioned in a thread but I had just got the Barney’s .. I did find it in time but for some crazy reason told myself no… both are on my fall radar along with the Detox GWP… lol… I need to break up with Barney’s warehouse soon so I can save …

TNTriathlete

Yes Luna thank you for all of the great leads! I am bummed I missed out on this but because of you I scored on the net-a-porter boxes both of which are awesome.

JackieCupcake

Luna – I hope the changes Liz is talking about is giving you a paid position! You always know about these things girl and you deserve credit for that.

xunseenx

i can’t believe that i missed out on a new beauty box! drats! i would have purchased this for sure, because, well, i do love the three eye creams! i live on eye cream samples because it’s so darned expensive. well, hopefully the awards box will be released soon, those are always so amazing! and jessica, just want to say that i enjoy your reviews. they’re always fairly detailed. thank you!

Maybe Jessica is a little over burdened. I notice she reviews a ton of subscriptions

JuJu

Btw, ladies, the three Beauty Report boxes (“Jet Set”, “Sleep Support”, and “Stop the Clock”) are still available on Amazon.

Just search for “beauty report box” on there.

Reply ButtonReply

Patricia S Garrett

But WHEW the price on those! Especially compared to the box reviewed above, for the same price (minus shipping.)

Reply ButtonReply

Ronda

I know I would have gotten this box without a second thought. My only small complaint is, if it was not advertised here before it sold out, why bother reviewing it now? Serious feelings of, I missed out. I would have loved every single product and that is rare. Sad…

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

When I saw this in the stores I knew it was an amazing deal and emailed Liz a pic of the the front and back of the box because I actually bought it I was hoping someone had reviewed it, as I had just seen a a glance of the box in store. When I couldn’t find ANYONE talking about it, I just went back to the store and bought it and thought I would be nice to have this site at least put it up but alas, no one did. I know there are lots of things to review so I just figured everyone got busy.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I wonder if one of the changes could be creating an email address that MSA readers can send spoilers, sales, sub box news, or launches to that MSA staff can monitor rather than all emails being sent directly to Liz. I can’t even imagine how many emails Liz gets in a day, and while not all of my notifications are posted, I’m still super impressed with how quick she is in creating new posts. For the times when a post isn’t made, like you mentioned, I always figured Liz is too busy… or my email got lost in the river of new emails flowing into her box or it just wasn’t worth posting (which I’m totally cool with(!) since it’s not my blog 🙂 ).

Liz Cadman

Yes, totally agree. If we’re not posting about it before it sells out, then we shouldn’t review it. This was a mistake and we’re putting steps in place so that it doesn’t happen again. So sorry!

Reply ButtonReply

DawnS

Please don’t Liz! I do not care if it was not advertised or mentioned before hand. I just love you all’s reviews. Plus I got to learn a little about new to me products that I can ask a store for samples of if I want to try it. I think you guys are great!

Anne

I really enjoyed reading this review despite the box having sold out! A lot of these brands are subscription box regulars, or show up at TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, and having heard an opinion about the texture or application or just if they work makes me feel better about trying something out further down the line.
I probably wouldn’t have bought this box if it was available because I have super duper reactive skin, but I’ve been eyeing that Juice Beauty tinted primer stuff for ages and really liked seeing it reviewed. Maybe I can swap for it now!

Ronda

Awe… thanks. I was half kidding. Guess that doesn’t read well thru text. Always… and I mean always, love your reviews. Thanks so much for all you do.

Rebecca

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say I’d still like to see a review. This helps being informed for me and triggers a radar when we discuss the box in the future for any upcoming releases. (Fall Box). I read MSA every day frequently so although I knew about this box, I couldn’t buy it. (No Dillard’s near me) And even tho I couldn’t buy it in store, I just now learned that there was a small window of opportunity that I could have bought online by reading the comments. This could have sold out an hour ago or 3wks ago and I would still wanna see. MSA is great and the comment are life!

I just saw a couple of boxes up for sale on ebay for what I paid in store (total price with shipping) but without the $15 coupon. So if you weren’t going to use the coupon anyway would be a good deal. I abosultely love the Philosophy Amazing Grace – had never tried it before!

Anna- thanks for the ebay heads up. Snagged one. Too good of a deal to pass up, though I need another beauty box like a hole in the head! 😳. The Bobbi Brown lip tint alone is worth more than the price of the box; I live in an arid climate and always have some type of lip product on. Such a deal. Thanks again!

Definitely disappointed too. It threw me off with Dillards in the title. I didn’t know they still existed! This was a great deal.

Thank you for this honest review; I found Jessica’s comments about retinols to be interesting. I have several I have been trying to use but now I am concerned I could be causing myself to have sun damage to my skin. I need to do some research and probably not use these types of products. Thanks again Jessica; an interesting read!

Anyone using a retinol should be wearing sun protection. It makes your skin more susceptible to adverse effects from exposure vto the sun.
