Meowbox May 2019 - Inside

I think they got the notice of Mr. Kitty’s passing too late for this shipment. =(

Meowbox May 2019 Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

Meowbox May 2019 - Booklet Front Meowbox May 2019 - Booklet Back

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a brunch theme.

Meowbox May 2019 - Avocado Toast

Avocato Toast Duo – Retail Value $7

I am highly resistant to food trends and am not a fan of avocado toast. But I definitely think these cat toys are cute. They are small plush catnip toys with adorable faces. Angus is a huge fan of little Meowbox plushes although when I was taking photos for this box he was not feeling his best (we’d been trying to reduce his IBD medications but that was ultimately a failure; we’re back on a higher dose and he is feeling better and should be getting more mileage out of these toys in the next few weeks).

Meowbox May 2019 - Eggcellent Bacon Bouncer

Eggcellent Bacon Bouncer – Retail Value $8.50

This is a finger dangler toy and it was a huge hit.  I mean, it has string and feathers. Angus did perk up enough to play with this one and I suspect Sneaky will be a fan, too (she was cranky the day I took pictures, probably because Angus was around – she does not like him all that much but the house is big and usually they don’t encounter each other).

Meowbox May 2019 - Meowmosa Bar

Meowmosa Bar – Retail Value $6

This is a kicker style toy but it is on the small side, which is perfect for my kitties. Plus, it has feathers. Although, for some reason. both Monkey and Madison were interested mostly in the little orange slice thing.

Meowbox May 2019 - Breakfast Sausage from Natural Cat Toy

Breakfast Sausage from Natural Cat Toy – Retail Value $6

This is made from silvervine wood (compressed) and it was universally loved. But this is especially a Madison item. He really, really likes silvervine (more than catnip) and he did his “rolling around on the floor” thing after I let him have this for a while.

Meowbox May 2019 - So Bright Freeze Dried Chicken Breast

So Bright Freeze Dried Chicken Breast (0.81 oz) – Retail Value $5

This is freeze-dried chicken and although my cats don’t usually go for freeze-dried meat, I got Monkey, Madison, and Sneaky all to eat some of this. (OK, Sneaky ate a lot of it.) In case you were wondering, Angus can’t have it. We are still trying to get him stable on IBD food and medication and we can’t give him treats at the moment.

Kitty photo time:

Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 1 Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 2

Angus felt well enough to play with the egg and bacon toy a bit.

Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 3

Angus inspects the breakfast sausage.

Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 4 Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 5

Angus played with the mimosa toy, too.

Meowbox May 2019 - Angus 6

And he showed a little interest in the avocado toast toys. (He’ll play with these more once he stabilizes on his medication and feels better. We are already seeing some effect.)

Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 1 Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 2 Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 3

Madison LOVED the breakfast sausage.

Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 4 Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 5 Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 6 Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 7

Being affected by the breakfast sausage made Madison pretty playful.

Meowbox May 2019 - Madison 8

He also liked the treats.

Meowbox May 2019 - Monkey 1 Meowbox May 2019 - Monkey 2

Monkey is the designated old man now that Mr. Kitty is gone so all he wants to do is rub his face on toys. But he did eat a treat.

Meowbox May 2019 - Monkey Angus 1 Meowbox May 2019 - Monkey Angus 2

I was taking photos of Sneaky and Monkey and Angus ganged up to get into the box.

Meowbox May 2019 - Sneaky 1

Sneaky sniffs the breakfast sausage. I was hoping she’d bite it, but she didn’t.

Meowbox May 2019 - Sneaky 2 Meowbox May 2019 - Sneaky 3

She was really waiting for treats, as we all know.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $32.50 for the May Meowbox. That’s pretty good, at almost $10 over the $22.95 cost of the subscription plus shipping. The treats were quite popular for freeze-dried meat, and all the toys were adorable.  I think my favorite thing was Madison’s reaction to the breakfast sausage (I have to keep that on a high shelf so he can only have it sometimes, he goes so nuts).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  It is too late for the May box, so your subscription would likely start with June, but you can buy the individual items from the Meowbox store; just click the links in the item names.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus shipping, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Avocado toast toys $4.94
  • Egg and bacon toy $6
  • Mimosa toy $4.24
  • Sausage toy $4.24
  • Treats $3.53

So very sorry you lost one of your kitty clowder babies. How old was Mr. Kitty?

The toys look great.

He was 14.5 years old but he was chronically ill for 6.5 years with multiple problems. It ended up being a giant, fast-growing liver tumor that we couldn’t treat.

Oh, I am so terribly sorry. There are no adequate words. I am so glad he was loved and cherished.

Thanks for the review!

I just read about Mr Kitty’s passing. I’m so so sorry. You have my deep condolences. I remember him from your other reviews. He was beautiful.

What a great box. Our cats (5) would have gone bonkers with everything. My husband thinks a cat subscription box is a step too far but I may do it anyway. And, as always, your kitties look fabulous.
