Mama Needs Subscription Box "Mama Needs A Mani/Pedi" Review

We received several inserts in our box. The green card gives a brief description of the items in our box and also highlights our theme for the month which is "Mama Needs a Mani/Pedi" while the second card includes instructions for how to access the Spotify playlist that goes along with this month's theme. On the back, they include some self-care tips, some of which involve using the items in your box. These cards are a great indication of the level of thought that goes into our box curation.

Hello Beautiful Felt Pouch by Sweet Water Decor - Retail Value $19.99 (currently on sale for $9.99)

Our first item this month is this cute felt pouch that reads "hello, beautiful" in lovely blush script. I really like the simplicity of the design and the fact that it is hand-lettered. The black felt is super lightweight and I like how it is accented by the gold zipper. This pouch is perfect for holding the rest of the goodies we received this month!

DL Pro 7-Piece Disposable Pedicure Set - Retail Value $6.29

This little kit was a great way to provide a lot of tools for us to use for our mani/pedis. While these aren't the highest quality products, they will be just fine for replacing some of my old tools and I'm sure they'll last through quite a few grooming sessions.

The seven-piece set included a cute pink nail brush (I really needed a new one!), some pink toe separators, a nail file with fine grit on one side and a rougher grit on the other, a plastic cuticle pusher (another item I needed to replace), and an orangewood stick which I always use to clean up around my nails after painting because I'm not the steadiest nail painter. It also included a four-sided buffing block with sections for smoothing, prep, shine, and some grit for filing.

La Bloom Beauty Nail Oil Pen, 3 ml - Retail Value $16.00

Our next item came packaged up so nicely in a little bag that also included a card with a 15% off coupon code. This nail oil pen is such a great idea! I've never seen a cuticle oil in this form before, but it's genius to me. Even better, this oil is handmade with organic ingredients that include sweet almond oil, vitamin E, plus lemon and bergamot essential oils. This had a subtle, fresh lemon scent and worked well for softening my cuticles. I'll be throwing this in my purse since it is the perfect size for on-the-go!

Deco Miami Customizable Trio Set + Nail File Add- On - Retail Value $25 ($20 + $5 for the file)

I was so excited to see Deco Miami was our nail polish brand included in the box, and even more excited to see it included not just one or two, but a whole trio set! What a nice treat! I have received this brand before in boxes and I just fell in love with the cute little bottles and the formula which is 8-free, vegan, and cruelty-free, so this is currently my preferred brand. (Try their coconut cuticle oil - it smells so good - now we just need to get it in pen form!) I actually already have two of these colors, (which means our box curator did a great job choosing our customizations, right?), but since they are packaged up so nicely, it will be easy to gift them to someone! I am listing the trio value here with the added $5 for the nail file included on Deco Miami's website, which I will use in determining the total box value, but I'll also break down the individual costs for you below.

Crystal Nail File - Retail Value $9.00

Before I get to the polish, I have to showcase this pretty crystal nail file we received which is "finely etched" and comes in a little white velvet case. These files definitely look super glam, especially when compared to a traditional emery board! It feels a little weird to be using a glass file at first, but it definitely works well for smoothing your nails.

Deco Miami Luxe Nail Lacquer in Petite Palm, 6ml - Retail Value $8.00

So, why do I love this polish so much? Just look at that cute little bottle! It looks so nice sitting on my bathroom shelf and the formula of this one is great! One coat gives you great opaque coverage and this color, Petite Palm, is oh so pretty! (Swatches below.) If you like larger bottles of polish, all of their colors do come in 14.8 ml bottles which are equally glam!

Deco Miami Luxe Nail Lacquer in Champagne Mami, 6ml - Retail Value $8.00

Since I am obsessed with everything rose gold, this color is beautiful to me! It is just so pretty and the metallic polish is so sparkly and shiny with a smooth finish. Just one coat gives great coverage, too, although two coats ensure that it will last longer on your nails. When my daughter saw this one she was really excited about how sparkly it was!

Deco Miami Luxe Nail Lacquer in Rosé All Day, 6ml - Retail Value $8.00

This last color has such a fun name, Rosé All Day, and it is the perfect summer color with just a hint of coral to the pink. One coat gives you a sheer look that actually didn't chip when I tried it, but with 2 coats you can get a brighter, more opaque color which I think I prefer.

My daughter modeled the polishes and each of these swatches is just one coat of polish. This is not my best painting job, but four-year-olds are squirmy! She is just getting into the idea of having her nails painted (she couldn't stand the idea of it about a month ago!) and I was surprised when she had me paint all of her toes with her favorite sparkly "golden" Champagne Mami polish. Hopefully, I'll get to complete my own matching pedicure soon!

Bonus Item: Color Street Nail Polish Strip Sample Set

This last item isn't listed on the card, and I definitely view it as a bonus item since it isn't a complete set. This is a sample of Color Street's nail polish strips and it comes with a little card with directions, a nail prep pad, a tiny emery board, and two samples of their polish strips in a fun, sparkly purple color. These could be fun if I were doing an accent nail!

Verdict: This month's Mama Needs Box was a theme that seemed like the contents would be pretty obvious, and to some extent, they were, however, the fact that they included the Deco Miami set really stood out to me. Not only because I am already a fan, but also because it was packaged in that nice boxed set with individual boxes for each bottle of polish. The presentation made it feel special and I think the colors were a good range that should hopefully please anyone. I also really liked the felt bag design and how our box included everything we needed to get our hands and feet summer ready! This box costs $45.99 ($39.99 + $6 shipping) and I estimate the total value of the box to be $67.28, which is great! Even if you use the sale price for the bag, you are still coming out ahead. I really enjoy this box, so I am happy to see that the retail value was more in line with the cost of the box this month!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

They should have put a nice hand or foot moisturizer Instead of the cheap manicure set filler, especially since there is a much nicer nail file included with the Deco trio.

That’s a great idea, too! Although I actually found the set really helpful since I needed to replace so much of my nail supply stash! lol 🙂

Great review, Brandi! If you’ve never used a crystal nail file you may not know that they are way better than emery boards for several reasons. The first is obvious that when you try it, it’s a much finer grade so it feels a lot smoother and is much easier to control without the gritty pieces of nail coming off and getting in the way. This also means it’s much gentler on your nail so you can actually use it back and forth, versus emery boards where you have to file in one direction only or risk damaging/weakening your nail. The third reason is that they last FOREVER. I do my own nails, and pretty frequently, as they grow quite fast. So even when I don’t have time for polish I at least file every few days. I’ve been using the same glass nail I bought from Sephora nearly 10 years ago! You can rinse them in water but I usually just wipe the fine, almost transparent white grit off onto any handy material, including my pj’s or sweat pants. Then just brush your hand across that and it’s gone. But of course you don’t have to be as lazy as I tend to be! 😁
Crystal files used to cost close to $10 but you can get them so many places now, even some gas stations. I’ve seen them on Amazon in packs of 8 for $5. You don’t need that many but I have extras because of the one time I misplaced mine and hated going back to an emery board. You can also buy mini ones to carry around to use during wait times like at the doctor’s office. Obviously I think it’s one of the greatest beauty inventions ever! 😊

I fully agree with you Dani. I got a crystal file from Ipsy two years ago and I love it. I’ll never go back to an emery file.

Me either Katy. I have probably 6 full size back ups and 2 purse size ones. They come in very handy (no pun intended) because I’m a fidgety person. Plus, and this will probably sound really weird, but even holding an emery board hurts my teeth for some reason.
I don’t know why but the same thing happens when I touch terra cotta. Especially those pizza baking stones. 😄

Thanks so much for the info, Dani! I had no idea, but that is really great to know! I’m sure other readers will find this info helpful, too, so thanks for sharing! 🙂
