This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost May 2019 "Honeybees" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Honeybees" and they included so many great facts about them!

This card encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before!

Never Feed a Yeti Spaghetti by Make Believe Ideas Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99 (found here for $7.98)

What an adorable book this is! The kids were excited from the moment they saw the Yeti and heard the title since one of our favorite games to play is "Yeti in my Spaghetti." Each page features a different animal and a fun rhyme about something they shouldn't eat complete with a large opening in their mouth and some felt teeth. My one-year-old loved touching each of the animal's teeth and playing with them. They were also securely attached even though they were just made of felt. This was such a cute and interactive story that we had a lot of fun reading!

Whose Story is This Anyway? by Mike Flaherty - Retail Value $14.95 (found here for $9.38)

Our main character in this story is just trying to tell a story about himself (and his cat) but he keeps getting interrupted by various characters who are trying to provide their own opinions on how his story should go. We meet a pirate, a dinosaur, a knight, and even some aliens along the way, and the story is told through dialogue. As I read, I tried to do a different voice for each character and it made for a fun and silly story that my kids were really engaged in. All of the characters appealed to my kids and the constant new introductions kept it interesting. We've already read this one multiple times!

Wolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $8.92)

Our last story is the cute tale of a bunny family who discovers an abandoned wolf cub on their stoop one day. They take it in as their own and while mom and dad are busy cooing over the adorable baby, his new "sister" is much more worried that he is going to eat them all up. Soon she realizes he really is a part of their family. This one had some fun stuff that parents will appreciate such as the carrot patch where they collect their carrots being a grocery store named "The Carrot Patch" and I think I enjoyed reading it as much as the kids!

Verdict: Month after month Lillypost delivers fantastic books that our whole family enjoys! This is definitely one of our favorite subscriptions to receive thanks to the consistent curation of unique stories, and this month's selections were especially great. The total retail value came to $42.93 which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box and even though with sale prices we are only at $26.28, I still think it's worth it since we discovered new books we thoroughly enjoyed!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the June box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Never Feed a Yeti Spaghetti $5.79
  • Whose Story is This Anyway?: $8.67
  • Wolfie the Bunny: $10.43

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I love this box so much! It’s my second month getting it for my 3 year old son and he gets so happy to open his box and all the books are great quality and ones we’ve yet to read! I also love that they donate a book as well. I plan on gifting subscriptions of these to family members for birthdays.
