JoahBox May 2019 Review

When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:

You will choose your birth month, skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type, and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.

There's an info booklet with each delivery that goes over the included items and how to use them. It's best to hold onto this since a lot of the packaging is in Korean only. You'll also get a collectible playing card each month.

Thank You Farmer Sun Protect Light Sun Essence, 1.40 oz. - Retail Value $27.00

I'm a huge fan of Thank You Farmer products and getting this SPF 50 moisturizer is a real treat at the beginning of summer. As the info booklet says, it isn't heavy at all, goes on without a greasy feeling, and doesn't leave any white residue behind. The SPF 50 is pretty hefty compared to my usual 30 but I don't want to mess around with my face at all and like to preserve my pale complexion as much as possible.

Kicho Large Curved Multi Brush - Retail Value $35.00

Wow - ok I love this brush. I've been using a beauty blender to apply my foundation for probably over a year now but these soft bristles have changed my mind on using a brush to do so instead! I normally put a small amount of my BB cream on the back of my hand and blot the beauty blender into it so I used the same technique with this tool. It evenly distributed the product onto my face without leaving lines on my face as other brushes have done. I love how large the brush is so it covers a lot of surface area quickly and the curved design allow it to easily get under my eyes and around my jawline. This one is a keeper!

W. Lab Hair Steam Ampule Mask Cap - Retail Value $8.99 (Listed Value $15.00)

You may have noticed that this wasn't in the group photo above because mine was missing from my box. I reached out via email, they responded quickly, and I was surprised how soon the product arrived, so that is good to know! I was excited to try this since my hair is damaged from years of dying and just generally breaks easily and is not very shiny. This was a very easy process to follow and included three steps. After shampooing and towel drying my hair, I used the step 1 packet all over my hair. I had a ton left over since my hair is quite thin and not super long, so I could probably get 2 treatments out of this. I then put the cap on which is step 2 and left it on for 15 minutes. Afterward, I got back into the shower to wash it out and proceeded to dry my hair normally. The step 3 packet is a hair oil that I used suuuuper sparingly since mine gets greasy easily. It helped with the shine and while I tried to use it to tame some of my split-end frizz, I was reluctant to put it close to my scalp. Overall, I think this did help my hair look nice for the day, but my hair has a long way to go.

RiRe Luxe Metal Glitter in Silver Swan - Retail Value $7.90 (Listed Value $13.00)

I'm not a glitter eye makeup kind of gal but this liquid eye shadow is really cool! I love the sparkly packaging and holographic box it comes in. The amount of glitter packed in here is astonishing and it's buildable and stays put once dry. I think I have to keep this around for some kind of fun event where this will come in handy!

Da Mior Nourishing Sheet Mask - Listed Retail Value $4.00

The final item this month is a sheet mask which is super common to find in JoahBox. This one uses bamboo and has a milky white essence to it. The sheet was drenched when I took it out of the package and they suggest squeezing the extra out of the pouch and using on your neck while the mask is on. It has a plastic sheet to make unfolding easy as well. The mask itself didn't fit my face super well and did a bit of sliding around. Once removed, my skin felt really moisturized but also sort of oily, so I ended up blotting quite a bit of product off. Once I did that, there was a manageable amount to massage in and my skin did look quite dewy.

Verdict:  JoahBox really wowed me this month with the chosen five products. The brush is hands down my new favorite beauty tool but the sunscreen and hair mask are also both super helpful. While I won't use the glitter in my daily routine, it's too cool to pass on to a friend so I'll be keeping it for a special occasion. The sheet mask was okay but didn't make it to the top ones I've used in my life. This box did have some prices over-valued in the booklet but also had an item undervalued for what I could find online. Sometimes Korean products wildly fluctuate in cost depending on where you get them, so it's kind of par for the course. This box has a retail value of $83.89 which is more than double the cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This one is no longer available and since it's after the 5th, if you sign up today, your first delivery probably won't come until July.

We ship boxes on the 10th of each month. Once your box leaves our facilities, it can take about one to three weeks to be delivered. We accept orders until the 5th of each month.

Hi Marne. Glad to hear the brush works with BB cream. That is what I use and have never found something other than my fingers to put it on. Will check that out. Thanks.

I got that brush two years ago from sephora. It’s a sephora pro brush that is $38. It goes on sale every so often. Elf has a similar one for $12. I dont use liquid foundation or BB creams but I use a mineral powder foundation and I use this brush for that. I absolutely love this brush. It’s also good for putting contour and highlighter or blush on at the same time.the bigger end I put the contour on and the shorter end the highlighter or blush and then I brush it on together. I have been recommending this brush since I got it.
