Thirsty for More: Discovering God’s Unexpected Blessing in a Desert Season by Allison Allen – Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $9.21)

Allison Allen is a Bible teacher whose talks at conferences and retreats around the country focus on themes of purpose, value, and empowerment. In this month's book, Thirsty for More, Allison explores the challenge of remaining resilient during times of struggle and how God uses this time to bless, strengthen, and grow us.

Book Summary from Amazon:

“When it comes to our connection with God, we dread "dry seasons," when we feel far from our life-sustaining Creator and Redeemer. We want to dwell in lush valleys, not wander in trackless deserts. And yet, during the first three centuries of the church, many men and women purposefully moved into deserts to seek God. They understood something that we have missed: a desert is not a place of vast nothingness, but a place where we can truly experience God's provision, restoration, and intimacy.

Through Scripture and personal stories of her own times of waiting and struggle, Allison Allen offers a fresh perspective for women who dare to believe that God is doing something of eternal value in their dry seasons. She shows how God can use these times in our lives to reveal himself to us, to give us rest, to get our attention, to show us our strength, to experience his blessings, and more. Any woman who has been feeling spiritually sapped will welcome this refreshing message of hope.”

I found Allison Allen to be incredibly real, relatable, and funny. Biblical lessons and her own personal trials are weaved together almost seamlessly. This book feels more like a conversation with your best girlfriend and less like a Sunday school lesson. I love the way she writes, how vulnerable she is, the biblical message, and its relevance to what I’m currently experiencing. This is the book to pick up when you're having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Faithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - Matr Boomie Ashram Window Necklace, Gold 1 TopFaithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - Matr Boomie Ashram Window Necklace, Gold 2 TopFaithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - Matr Boomie Ashram Window Necklace, Gold On Front

Matr Boomie Ashram Window Necklace, Gold – Retail Value $44.00

Matr Boomie partners with artisans to empower communities and build sustainable income for women and families in rural India. This gold brass necklace, inspired by the windows and arches of Indian architecture, was handmade by women in Delhi.

This necklace is understated and simplistic in design, well-made, and very pretty. I often prefer longer necklaces so this length is perfect for me. It's also, surprisingly, lightweight making it very comfortable to wear all day. Even more, it feels very special to wear knowing it was handmade by other women halfway across the world.

Acacia Creations 8” Recycled Paper Star Lantern – Retail Value $8.00

Acacia Creations has a goal of empowering artisans through their skills by making their creations accessible to customers all around the world. Acacia partners with artisans originally in Kenya, now in India, and a number of other countries. This beautiful paper star lantern was handmade in New Delhi from discarded cotton which was turned into a tree-free paper, hand-printed, and stamped.

The colors and patterned design of this paper star are really gorgeous. I initially thought that it would require assembly but it doesn't. You simply pull the drawstring in place. I'm not yet sure where I will display my lantern, probably my office, but I know that it'll add a little pretty to any space I choose.

Faithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - 365 Pocket Prayers for Women Front TopFaithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - 365 Pocket Prayers for Women Inside TopFaithbox “Resilience” Review May 2019 - 365 Pocket Prayers for Women Back Top

365 Pocket Prayers for Women: Guidance and Wisdom for Each New Day – Retail Value $5.99

This pocket-sized book offers 365 opportunities to talk with God. It's for new believers that are not yet comfortable praying or for those that simply need inspiration. This book is arranged by days and topics. It can be read consecutively day to day or by topic when you need to pray over a specific need or circumstance. The book also offers shorter prayers called “Prayful Moments” and daily supporting scripture.

This book is full of powerful prayers that are biblically based, may come with a petition but also with praise! This is how I was taught to pray – though there is no wrong way to have a heartfelt conversation with God. The prayers I've read thus far have provided comfort, sparked a call for action, or simply brought me joy. I highly recommend this book of prayers.

Everyday Faith

The heart and soul of Faithbox is the daily devotional called Everyday Faith. Focused on this month’s theme, "Resilience", Everyday Faith offers daily inspirational quotes, scripture and short Bible studies, a call to action, and declaration. This devotional offers the opportunity to reflect on the month’s topic and spend quality time with God growing your faith. One of my favorite quotes from this month’s Everyday Faith is from Day 24. It reads:

"Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before.” - Elizabeth Edwards

This quote resonates with me because lately there has been a lot of discussion in my personal and work life around not only understanding and accepting, but embracing the "new normal." It takes a lot of resilience to accomplish this goal!

The Verdict: This is my second time reviewing Faithbox and I am as impressed with this month’s box as I was with last month’s box. Between Allison Allen’s Thirsty for More, the pocket prayers, the inspiring Everyday Faith devotional, and God on my side, I am armed with the tools to build resilience and get through any trial. I look forward to working with these items this month and making my workspace pretty (and inspired) with the calendar card, wall print, and paper lantern. Aside from the literature, the Matr Boomie necklace is my favorite. It's so nice!

I love the curation and quality of the items in this month's box. More so, I love that Faithbox has chosen to partner with companies that have a great mission. For $30 a month ($25 plus $5 shipping), I received two books, other excellent faith-themed goodies, and the Everyday Faith daily devotional. The items that had a retail value totaled up to about $67.20, which is double the subscription and shipping cost. This is an excellent value!
