Darn Good Beads of the Month May 2019 Review
I’ve been receiving Darn Good Beads of the Month for several months. I know I will get a simple project with instructions that will be easy to complete in under an hour or two, but the projects have been pretty varied:
The package came with this paper, which contained instructions for this month’s project.
“Ocean Vibes” Bracelet
This was a pretty simple stringing project. All you needed to complete it were some crimping pliers and something to cut the beading wire with. (A bead stopper was recommended but you could use some tape or just hold the wire with your hand, which is what I did.) This took maybe 20 minutes, at most, and part of that was undoing half of what I had done because bead types 2 and 5 were mixed in the same baggie but very similar sizes, shapes, and colors, and I realized I’d used some of the type 5 beads where I was supposed to use type 2. There were a few extra type 2 beads in the end, which was great, because I dropped one into a crevice of my armchair, never to be found again.
If this is a bit too long for you, the easiest modification is to remove some of the beads from the part where there are 2 strands. I like the colors and I thought the split strand design strategy was interesting and potentially something I could adapt for other uses.
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for Darn Good Beads of the Month because the materials were unbranded/not labeled. I do feel that the physical materials provided were of decent quality (although I’m not sure what all of them were). The bracelet was easy to make and is a fun style for summer, and the directions were clear.
