DAILYLOOK is a monthly clothing and styling subscription service similar to Stitch Fix, Wantable Style Edit, and Trunk Club. DAILYLOOK collects your sizing, style, and pricing preferences, then a stylist hand-picks items (each piece ranging between $50-$300) based on your preferences. You'll be able to preview and edit your box of items before it's shipped (DAILYLOOK provides free shipping), and you'll only pay for the pieces you keep. Each monthly box costs $40 to style, but that amount goes towards anything you decide to purchase. Everything else, you can return for free.

My DAILYLOOK Review

When you sign up for DAILYLOOK, you'll communicate your sizing and style preferences. Your stylist will use that information to pick up to 12 items for your monthly box.

Before your box ships, DAILYLOOK will send you a preview of what you're getting. You can remove up to three items per shipment if you aren't interested in them, and give feedback to DAILYLOOK as to why. If you do remove items, DAILYLOOK will swap in a few different pieces to send in their place. (Note that you won't have the chance to preview these new items before they ship.) You also have the option of looking through the DAILYLOOK website and favoriting items that they will consider adding to your boxes. DAILYLOOK offers a variety of styles, and it's seriously so much fun to browse through them and make notes!

The fee for this service is $40, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $40 fee from the total. You can also skip a month anytime and avoid any charge.

Inside your shipping box, there's a signature blue box that holds your clothes. When you take the lid off, you're greeted with an envelope.

Inside, I found a slip with instructions for making returns, a return shipping label, and a note from my stylist, Veronica. This month, Veronica called attention to the items she selected for me that I favorited on DAILYLOOK's site. Like always, she made some styling suggestions for the pieces I got, including how to style the items in the box with one another as well as with other items I might already have. I wept a little when she said fall isn't that far away—our city pools haven't even opened for the summer yet!

For those of you who are just joining in on my DAILYLOOK journey for the first time, this is my fourth month. Though I have found a few pieces that pleasantly surprised me each month, I haven't been in love with the selection as a whole. I have been patient as Veronica gets to know my style, but this month's box (including her styling suggestions in the note) has me feeling like perhaps DAILYLOOK isn't a great fit for me. More on that later.

Under the clothes in my box, I found a packing slip that lists each item and the cost to keep it. I received a total of 7 items this month (it says 8 on the slip, but that's including the bonus chocolate bar!). DAILYLOOK also sends along a return shipping bag, though if you want to return more than fits in the bag, you can also use the box they arrived in. You have five days to decide what you'd like to keep or return. Once I decided, I headed over to my online account to let DAILYLOOK know which items I'd be keeping vs. returning. I also had the opportunity to provide feedback on what I liked and disliked and to rate the fit, style, and quality of each item. You must select a reason for each item you're returning. Once you've finalized your decisions and checked out, you have 7 days to return the items you're sending back using the provided shipping bag and pre-paid label.

Okay, ready to see what I got in my June DAILYLOOK box?

Kaitlyn Ruffle Top, Wine - Cost to Keep $65

How cute is this top? I really like the neckline with the subtle ruffle, and the color is something I have been asking my stylist for since the very beginning! I know deep jewel tones like this one are typically considered a fall color, but warm, earthy tones are what I feel most comfortable and most "me" in. I was excited to try this top on. Alas, it is one that would have to be worn either with a strapless bra—which I expressed to Veronica is not something I'm interested in wearing in this season of life—or with no bra. I'm comfortable going braless under certain circumstances, but the look has to be flattering. Here I felt that it wasn't. In the photos, it doesn't look too bad, but in person, I felt like my breasts were looking really pointy and kind of inappropriate in this top. Darn. It was so close but I had to pass on it.

Level 99 Dayla Cargo, Olive - Cost to Keep $110

Last month I gave Veronica the feedback that I'd like to stop receiving jeans—I really just don't need any new ones. I told her that if she sees a pair of pants that are really special, though, feel free to send them. I was open-minded going into trying these olive cargo pants on (with a T-shirt I already owned), but similar to my feedback about the pair of black boyfriend jeans I received last month, I felt these pants were just kind of too big, rather than stylishly loose-fitting. I did not keep them.

Audrey Cargo Short - Cost to Keep $78

I remembered favoriting these shorts in my DAILYLOOK profile, and I was really hoping they would work for me! Olive is another color I had been asking to see more of (or any of) in my box, and this month is the first time it finally appeared. Yay! These shorts were really close to working, but they just felt a little too tight and a hint too scratchy to make the cut. They probably could have worked if the material were more comfortable, especially because I think the next size up would be too big. I know that not every style works for every body type, so I'm not getting too down on myself for potentially being between sizes here, but feeling between sizes has been a recurring theme in the back of my mind as I've tried on clothes in my DAILYLOOK boxes each month, and it isn't an issue I tend to have elsewhere. That's one of the curiosities of this sub box experience that has me considering that it's maybe not a good fit for me. The fact that it took four months for me to receive some of the colors I had been asking for from the beginning is another.

Lily Wrap Floral Dress - Cost to Keep $69

As someone who has very fair skin, I avoided white and ivory dresses for a long time. But recently, I decided I was worrying too much about it and thought I'd give it a go. I now have several white-ish dresses that I really enjoy wearing. I had that in mind when I favorited this dress in my DAILYLOOK profile. It felt really good on! It was easy to wear, it's a true wrap, and it has a snap at the neckline to keep it from gaping open. I love that more brands are including this feature with the resurgence of wrap styles! I liked how this dress looked with my chunky black platform sandals, they sort of balanced it out so it's not overly sweet. I think there's even more styling potential here for me and I decided to keep this dress. I look forward to playing with ways of making it feel more my own!

French Connection Sleeveless Rib Bodycon Dress, Black - Cost to Keep $98

This is another item I favorited, though I had to laugh when I tried it on because it was a true midi on the model, but it's definitely a maxi on my 5'3" frame. I already have a black, knit maxi dress, but it's beginning to pill so I thought this felt like a good replacement. This one has slits that come up to about my knee, so it's a little updated. Though it's completely impractical for breastfeeding, it's a good staple to have on hand.

Short Dolman Striped Romper - Cost to Keep $65

I haven't owned a romper in a few years, and this one looked cute on paper, even though, again, it's impractical for nursing. My decision to send it back was easy after trying it on—I didn't find it flattering on me at all. I usually like the sturdy feel of a cotton-linen blend (and, shout out to Veronica for including these natural fibers that I had requested!), but in this instance, the material felt stiff and baggy at the same time. It was just kind of awkward on me. Probably better for someone with a more even bust-to-hip ratio.

Raw Hem Button Up Two Pockets Plaid Shirt - Cost to Keep $78

Finally, I received this top. It was really comfy, but really the only time I wear shirts like this are around the campfire, so $78 felt a little steep for that. Plus, during my box preview for this month, I removed 2 collared shirts and told Veronica in the feedback box for each that I'd like to avoid collared shirts. So this was kind of a bummer to receive despite those notes. The third item I removed during my preview was a polka-dotted midi skirt. I left the feedback that I liked everything about it except for the color-pattern combo—it felt a little too preppy for me—but that I love midi skirts and would really enjoy receiving one in another color or pattern! I had favorited a cute floral one that I was hoping would arrive in its place, but instead, I didn't get any skirts. The recurring feeling that my feedback wasn't being heard was another factor in my considering that this box isn't a good fit for me. Isn't taking customers' feedback into consideration as their box is styled the whole point of this service?

DAILYLOOK styling subscription review may 2019 chocolate

BONUS: Theo 70% Dark Chocolate Bar with Sea Salt

This is the third month that I've received a bonus chocolate bar. It's always a nice treat!

Verdict: While this DAILYLOOK box was more successful than last month's in that I found 2 pieces I liked enough to keep, it was also the one that led to my decision to cease this service. Aside from the reasons I listed throughout my review, I often didn't believe the quality of the items matched the prices they were listed for, and I also realized about myself that I like more control over my clothes shopping experience. Perhaps I can find other ways to take fashion risks and learn how my personal style is meant to evolve.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? You can sign up for your first month's box now, but your selections will look different than mine.

It seems to me almost everything is just too big for you. At 5’3″ you are petite and it makes it tough for sub boxes to work if they don’t carry petites.

You’re right! Although most of my clothes are not “petite” and they fit me just fine, it’s just a matter of knowing which ones to choose. I guess it’s nuances like those that make subscription boxes tricky, to your point. 🙂

Christen, I can totally relate to your bra dilemma for the wine-colored top, but I found a solution and I wanted to share.

Soma makes a supportive (but not enhancing) halter top, front-fastening bra that is amazing. It works well for large-busted ladies like me (I’m a 38DD) and would also work for someone who is breast-feeding. Best of all, it would not show under the top you have on in the first picture. I teach high schoolers, so my tatas cannot be hanging and swinging on the daily…and I hate strapless bras. This bra from Soma has been a life-saver. I have the flesh colored one and the black one. Highly recommend!

I’ve never heard of such a bra! Thanks for sharing, I may have to look into it!

Becky, could you please give a little more detail on the Soma bra? I’d love to look into it!

Yikes. I think you made the right call in giving up this subscription. If I’m spending $40 on a sub box and my requests are completely ignored, I’m definitely going to move on.

You look so cute in all these photos. You seem like such a sweet person and it really comes through in your smile.

I loved both dresses on you (even if the maxi is impractical for nursing) and I agree that the romper was a miss. In the two photos where you’re farther back it looks great but the up close photo showed the fit a little better and I could see what you meant by unflattering.

I’m glad you were able to use your $40 credit before unsubscribing.
