CLEAN.FIT Box May 2019 Review

The majority of the items in this box are snacks, but you will occasionally get a supplement or other small fitness item:

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Nunaturals Organic Green Banana Flour Top

Nunaturals Organic Green Banana Flour (1 lb) – Retail Value $13.99

CLEAN.Fit box often contains a pantry item or two. I’ve never tried green banana flour before. It has lots of potassium (as expected) and is also a source of resistant starch, which is a good prebiotic that can help beneficial bacteria flourish in your gut. Although it is suggested (even on the product page) as a substitute for wheat-based flour, it is also suggested on the product page that it should be consumed raw. Since I rarely have time for baking anyway, I’ve been putting some in my morning smoothies, where it blends well and doesn’t really affect the taste. (If you cook with this, you may need some gums for consistency.)

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Nustevia Maple Flavored Syrup Top

Nustevia Maple Flavored Syrup (6.6 fl oz) – Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $5.99)

This is a sugar-free maple syrup substitute. It is mostly glycerin and some gums for consistency, with sugar alcohols and stevia for sweetness. I have some oatmeal on weekend mornings and I’d been putting real maple syrup in there, but I started using this and it works pretty well. Normally I don’t like stevia in drinks, but it is fine in most foods and that includes this one.

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Skratch Labs Energy Bar with Cherries and Pistachios Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Skratch Labs Energy Bar with Cherries and Pistachios Plated

Skratch Labs Energy Bar with Cherries and Pistachios (1.8 oz) – Retail Value $2.65

I’d tried some other products from Skratch Labs before, but never the energy bars. We received two this month (see the other one below) and I preferred this one. This has 5g of protein and not much sugar as well as a little fiber. The texture was good (not too sticky but it also didn’t fall apart).

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Skratch Labs Savory Miso Energy Bar Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Skratch Labs Savory Miso Energy Bar Plated

Skratch Labs Savory Miso Energy Bar (1.8 oz) – Retail Value $2.65

This one was a little odd like it couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. There was sugar in this one too, which didn’t work so well with the miso flavor. I will be honest, though, I don’t eat many Asian-inspired foods because many of them are not vegetarian, so it may just be that this is an acquired taste. At any rate, it was nice to try two products from the same brand because they did have very different flavor profiles, and if you are at all interested, you can buy single servings of this from the manufacturer instead of committing to a whole box.

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Supernola Dragonfruit Lemon Zest Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Supernola Dragonfruit Lemon Zest Plated

Supernola Dragonfruit Lemon Zest (1.5 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $35.88

This is mostly nuts with some seeds (it is grain free, certified organic, vegan, and compatible with the Paleo diet as well). It did have a generically fruity background flavor but I haven’t eaten enough dragonfruit to be able to pick that out, specifically. I liked this about equally as well as the other flavor of this product that came in the box.

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Supernola Pineapple Ginger Fusion Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Supernola Pineapple Ginger Fusion Plated

Supernola Pineapple Ginger Fusion (1.5 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $35.88

I do regularly consume pineapple and ginger but they were pretty faint here. This also had turmeric, which I could not taste (which is probably for the best, as I don’t think it would be good in combination with fruit), but which is full of anti-inflammatory compounds. I thought this was pretty good as well. This is from the same company as Gorilly Goods (see below).

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Gorilly Goods Hillside Pumpkin Seed and Kale Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Gorilly Goods Hillside Pumpkin Seed and Kale Plated

Gorilly Goods Hillside Pumpkin Seed and Kale (1.3 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $30.99

I really liked this and my husband didn’t. But I think you should be able to tell from the name if you will like it. I am a fan of pumpkin seeds and I do eat kale chips and things like that (they are fun to make in the food dehydrator, which is something I haven’t done in forever and should totally try if I can find my food dehydrator). This also has tamari, onion, nutritional yeast, and cayenne and is a great source of both protein and potassium.

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Gorilly Goods Trail Nut Goji and Cacao Mix Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Gorilly Goods Trail Nut Goji and Cacao Mix Plated

Gorilly Goods Trail Nut Goji and Cacao Mix (1.3 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $30.99

This is more of a standard trail mix with nuts and seeds and berries, although some of them (goji berries, golden berries) are a little exotic. My husband liked this one a lot more than the pumpkin seed/kale one, and I enjoyed this as well. It also has cacao nibs and is a good source of iron.

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Oxylent Sport 3-in-1 Performance Supplement Drink Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Oxylent Sport 3-in-1 Performance Supplement Drink Inside

Oxylent Sport 3-in-1 Performance Supplement Drink (2 servings) – Buy a 15-Day Supply for $24.95

This has a lot of minerals but that is going to make it good for rehydration. It also contains creatine, which is a supplement used for muscle building. There is definitely science behind creatine, although you should beware that when you first start using it, you’ll take on a couple of pounds of water weight. (That’s just how it works.) This has a lot of antioxidants from blueberries and related compounds that are supposed to help fight free radicals generated by exercise and it is effervescent, as you can see. This is recommended as a pre-workout, during a workout, and/or postworkout supplement and I’m guessing based on the nutrient profile that they mean for primarily strength training activities. Color is from fruit and vegetable juices. This one is somewhat less tart and less “vitaminy” than the other Oxylent product we received this month (see below).

Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Oxylent 5-in-1 Multivitamin Supplement Drink Sparkling Blackberry Pomegranate Top Clean Fit Box May 2019 - Oxylent 5-in-1 Multivitamin Supplement Drink Sparkling Blackberry Pomegranate Inside

Oxylent 5-in-1 Multivitamin Supplement Drink Sparkling Blackberry Pomegranate (2 servings) – Buy 7 Servings for $8.99

This is a multivitamin in drink form. It has a pretty good profile of vitamins and minerals, including some electrolytes. It is sugar-free and sweetened with stevia, although it doesn’t taste like stevia. It’s actually quite tart. As you can see, it is effervescent (sorry about the poor lighting in my kitchen). It does have a bit of a vitamin undertaste to it (as do many drinks with high amounts of B vitamins). I’ll probably continue taking pills as they are a bit cheaper but this could be a good option for people who have trouble swallowing pills (vitamin pills can be quite large) or who are avoiding gluten, dairy, and soy, all of which this is free of.

Verdict: The May CLEAN.FIT Box had 10 items (counting multiples of drink packets together), which makes the average cost per item about $3.50. The green banana flour and maple-flavored syrup together had a value of $22, giving an average of about $1.63 for the remaining 8 items, which sounds like a much better deal. This was a really good month for me. All the products were new to me and I liked the majority of them (plus I am always happy when a box is completely vegetarian, which this one is every month because you can select ovo-lacto vegetarian at sign up).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will likely receive July's box (you can sign up for different variations, too, so while there will be some product overlap, not everything may be identical). From CLEAN.FIT:
